It’s fine to start out
Pet Valu is a company that provides very different experiences based on management. Managers will determine the amount of fulfillment you feel at this company. On a corporate level management is a complete mess. There is zero to little communication and leaves store level workers confused. Also the knowledge requirement for this retail job is way to much for the pay

perfect starter job
decently good entry level job - super friendly coworkers and management, learned new skills and lots about pet health and enrichment, lots of adoption events as well

It was okay
Not sure abt the pay, but the location I worked at was pretty chill except for delivery day. There'd be long hours where no one enters the store, then suddenly 3 or 4 people suddenly require your attention and that could get overwhelming. I usually had one other co-worker and we try to keep at least 2 employees in store so that's helpful. Pet care was hardly taught except for the food brands and to encourage selling pet value brands over the others. Manager would come in on some days and add more responsibilities as soon as it seems like there's nothing else to do.But can't complain too much. As a first job, it was alright. Probably depends on the location and the manager.

Great experience all around
I worked at the Alliston location, through two different owners. It was a great place to work, I just couldn’t work at that wage anymore. Customer service workers are not paid enough in general.
Key Holder/Sales Associate in Brampton, ON

Stressful workplace
Your experience depends on management, some franchise owners don’t care and will make you work alone on busy weekends handling every single customer yourself. Very fast paced and stressful and not worth minimum wage at all.
