Working at people care was very relaxing and organized. The staff are very friendly and so are the residents.

Good cheerful atmosphere

It is a very good nursing home to work for. They give you your birthday off and there is a great social comitee and a wonderful Christmas party. They have a reputation of keeping employees and the only reason why I left was because of the drive.in the winter. They don’t have a union because they don’t need one. It’s one of the best nursing homes in Canada. The employers are very fair.

Pros

Free lunch on occasion

Cons

Location is rough to commute

just an ok work place

A typical day at work would be taking residents orders for dinner and helping serve them. after dinner was served I would go back down to the kitchen with he cart of dishes and have to try to hurry and get them all washed so they could be sent back up for the second round of residents. after all dishes were done I would have to clean up the kitchen by wiping down the dish washer and cleaning floors and garbage. Also on every shift at some point you would have to go back upstairs to fill and empty the snack carts. while working here i learned that your not always going to like every one you work with. The management for the kitchen staff I believed was poor. The hardest part of this job was trying to remember the residents when told to take there food to them.

Pros

benefits right away

Cons

very rushed constantly

not a horrible place to work but not great either

Admin expects you to just drop everything and be available to work any and all hours. They try to make you feel guilty and bully you if you can't work. Too much is expected of the PSWs.

Pros

the residents are amazing

Cons

everything else

Productive, challenging and good place to work

- gather supplies for breakfast/lunch (juices, breads, specialties, we know what are needed)-proceed to the knitchen, prepare and refill/fill food items, while the dishes or other prep work is being done, breakfasts are prepared according to menus and diets-fill up your combo cart, at which point you take your filled cart to a steam table and lay out the meals.-record all of the leftovers from the meal, what was used/wasted-take your table/combo cart to show the cook whta was leftover, then bring your dish cart along as well to be cleaned.-a short break, also while a duty such as dishes are being performed somone else will be tasked out to the snack cart.-repeat the process for lunch, after which a break and snack cart order are repeated.-After 13 years of food service experience, there is little left to learn but learning to cope with new coworkers is always something new, however agreeable they are.-Management is nice, personable, not controlling or overbearing.-Co-workers are all team players, everyone is wary of helping each and provide a good working environment-There is no "easy" part of the job, most tasks are of equal difficulty and all require greast care.-Lunch is the most enjoyable part, typically the most compliments come from the residents at this point, and breakfast/early morning time isn't for everyone.
