A Good Place to Work - Especially for a New Mechanic
Tech 1 (Former Employee) - Moncton, NB - 26 November 2023
Indeed featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedGreat place to learn. The shop tools are top quality and there is a strong culture of teamwork which is always nice to have. Penske is a great place to start out as a mechanic but you will likely out grow the shop. Major repairs are only designated to 1 or 2 individuals and when they find out you're good at something you'll be doing it ad nauseum. Overall a good workplace!

Jobs at Penske Truck Leasing
Good to start off from
Technician (Former Employee) - Etobicoke, ON - 15 November 2023
Not a bad place to start. Learn basics here and company has good training but takes a while for them to send you to training. Not a bad shift schedule. Lots of dramas maybe even more compare to other locations. Manager doesn't know what he's doing and thinks he is also a mechanic. He will manipulate you into doing favors but will use it as ammo when time comes. Learn your basics and move on. Always a better company waiting to hire. Know your worth.
Pros
free lunches, once a year technician appreciation, training.
Cons
Management

Hands down the absolute most horrible place I've ever worked.
Maintenance Supervisor (Former Employee) - Cambridge, ON - 8 November 2023
What is the best part of working at the company? Best part about working at penske is leaving penske. What is the most stressful part about working at the company? The most stressful part is all of it. Especially if you're in management. If you're a supervisor you get walked all over. Not only do you have to do your job, you have to do everyone else's job too. What is the work environment and culture like at the company? The environment is chaos and there is no culture. Unless culture is continuously being harassed by your superiors. What is a typical day like for you at the company? Punch in, arrange your day, address your team, assign your team their work, run around putting out fires. Make a coffee, set it down and get back to it in 2 hours when it's cold. Forget lunch or even a break. You don't get thoes.

Horrible management
Forklift Operator (Former Employee) - Woodstock, ON - 21 September 2023
Just bad, don't do it. HR won't help you. Union and management continue to have a power struggle while everyone on the floor suffers. Digging a hole with your bare hands is better work.

Fun Co workers
Mechanic (Current Employee) - Montréal, QC - 8 August 2023
Large, rich company with big budgets. Somewhere along the pipeline though, the funds are miss spent and makes the bottom feeders(me) jobs much harder. All the while you are expected to stay up to date on all new policy changes.

Horrible
Forklift Operator (Former Employee) - Woodstock, ON - 8 August 2023
They will use you and let you go if you work through an agency. They will let you go without warning before your probation is up if you’re hired directly and not explain to you why or give you a legitimate reason as to why they let you go. If you have a family and or responsibilities in life I highly suggest you go past this posting and keep looking for a different place to work.
Pros
Union
Cons
Everything

Terrible work life balance
Sales and Operations Management Trainee (Former Employee) - Saint-Laurent, QC - 4 August 2023
Like the title says, it was a terrible experience with a poor work-life balance. Was mislead into thinking there was more to the role but it was basically a sales job.
Pros
Great swag and company gear
Cons
Long hours, mislead about the role

Horrible place to work
Forklift Operator (Current Employee) - Woodstock, ON - 3 August 2023
The management will constantly harrass you and try their best to fire you. It is a revolving door. The union is the only thing keeping that place alive.
Cons
Management

Don’t work here
Operator (Current Employee) - Woodstock, ON - 28 July 2023
The management team couldn’t mange their way out of a wet paper bag with a whole in it. Constant battle between a union that does nothing for you and the company that try’s to screw their employees at ever turn. Bad workers are rewarded with less work and good workers are rewarded with more work. The company lies to their employees constantly and treat you like you’re just useless. Run from this whole to down under

Lied about my shift, leading me to operating while dead tired..
Forklift Operator/Material Handler (Former Employee) - Woodstock, ON - 16 June 2023
They hired me for a particular shift. They apparently decided on their own that I would be working a different shift amongst themselves and didn't bother awkwardly mentioning it til the end of orientation because they knew how unprofessional and embarassing it was. I had been sleeping to go on night shift, as planned, So they were also fine with a fatigued operator. Explains the safety culture. This was after the guy running orientation spent 30 min ranting about how the company doesn't know why its having retention issues.....despite not respecting anyone's time. So bright.
Pros
Management seems confused
Cons
Management doesn't live normal lives?

Do NOT try start an Apprenticeship with this company
Tech III (Current Employee) - Burnaby, BC - 1 April 2023
Terrible management and hr. Low wages. Don't honor verbal or written agreements. They will try to get you in the door promising an apprenticeship then drag out registering you and provide no mentor or proper apprentice training. They are out to get a year of low cost labor out of you, a year of your life / missed training / missed earnings you will never get back. Stay away.
Pros
My locker didn't give me an STD
Cons
Management, wages, not honoring agreements, not training you per apprenticeship standards... And so much more...
