Management is distant and unsupportive
Housekeeper (Former Employee) - Pembroke, ON - 15 July 2023
Job itself was easy. Management were not always available and they didn’t always care about the staff. There are many ongoing adds for people to apply for housekeeper. The problem is the management. They can’t keep staff very long because management is distant and unsupportive.
Pros
Time off
Cons
Hours are not enough

Horrible Management Made Work Unnecessarily Stressful
Medical Records Clerk (Former Employee) - Pembroke, ON - 15 August 2022
Management was horrible. They do not care about their employees even though the employees are stretched to their limits and stressed 24/7. The turnover rate is nothing like I've seen before, they cannot hold onto people which shows how they treat people. This hospital has the lowest salary for this job out of all the hospitals that i have looked at. The pay is just not enough for the amount of work you are doing and amount of stress you have. However, most of the employees are amazing people who deserve to work somewhere a million times better.

It was mission impossible, terrible experience, tried my best to change and influence the work culture and improve leadership.
Health and Safety Coordinator (Former Employee) - Pembroke, ON - 26 May 2022
I was warned before accepting the job that it was toxic work environment. They were right. Leadership and work culture was the worst I have experienced. Would not recommend working or seeking healthcare there.
Pros
It pays the bills
Cons
Toxic work environment

Policy centred care
Nurse (Former Employee) - Pembroke, ON - 7 May 2021
Poor communication, judgemental attitudes and lack of recognition/respect for all team members, patients and families. Top heavy leaders “without time” to address serious safety concerns.
Pros
Union wages
Cons
Unsupportive leadership

Lacking room for advancement
Past employee (Former Employee) - Pembroke, ON - 4 April 2018
Poor morale....often hear staff openly complaining about work environment and management. Policies on sick days before or after long weekend were very discouraging especially if attendance was exceptional for remainder of the year.
Cons
Very little room for advancement, tends to hire from outside rather than providing advancement opportunities for current staff

Every day a learning experience
GEM Nurse-Geriatric Emergency Management (Former Employee) - Pembroke, ON - 19 November 2015
Performed Geriatric Patient assessments of physical and cognitive-mental functioning or the frail elderly as they presented to the ED with a medical issue.
Developed a plan of care utilizing available community resources, and referrals for further assessment in order to assist the elderly to remain as functioning as possible in their own homes.
Geriatrics is fascinating and complex, much education is required to understand and intervene for this group of our society
Management is supportive in supplying ongoing education to meet advancing senior's issues
Pros
ongoing learning to assist seniors
Cons
bureaucratic restraints=inadequate supports for seniors
