Clear company standards and expectations
Store Manager (Former Employee) - Edmonton, AB - 11 September 2019
Indeed featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedAs with any large company there was up and downs with working there, much of it was dependent upon the District Leader at the time. The company stood behind their product but staffing was too far in the last few years

Not an ideal workplace.
Sales Associate (Former Employee) - Edmonton, AB - 24 January 2019
I was becoming a very efficient employee and then I was fired due the fact I would have had one 3 hour shift every two weeks. No two week notice and I was a week from finishing probation. Not given a chance to be a valued employee and am currently struggling to find a job and keep up with expenses.
Pros
Easy work
Cons
minimal hours

City Center Location is Garbage
Associate (Former Employee) - Edmonton, AB - 18 September 2018
Terrible city Center mall location
Boss is extremely condescending
Being asked to do something and then getting in trouble for helping customers when your not doing your task fast enough
If you don’t pick up shifts, you get punished and your hours will get cut
Pros
Cheap shoes
Cons
Manager

Team is amazing
Sales Associate/Key Holder (Current Employee) - Edmonton, AB - 12 September 2018
The team itself gives a comfortable environment to work in and many of the customers do make your work more interesting because they give you that positive vibe to work and give services. The salary however lacks as compared to the amount of work you do, it is very less. The management team is great and understanding which makes you want to work for this company but sometimes they have to be a little strict when it comes to the sales of the stores which can be a positive intuitive.

Was just a job, not a career
Sales Associate (Former Employee) - Edmonton, AB - 10 October 2017
Working here was alright for a starting job, hours were nice, they valued their employees and rewarded them when they saw you were doing good at your job. Overall if you show your management you want more from this job it can be a good a career. The most enjoyable part of the job was the SHOES.
Pros
Shoes

Fun environment with the best associates.
Part-time Sales Associate (Current Employee) - Edmonton, AB - 16 June 2014
A typical day at work could be described in two ways. Either it was a shipment day or a regular day, a shipment day would entail opening shipment and putting out on the sales floor then breaking down shipment boxes. A non shipment day would mean doing household chores such as fixing the racks or displays or reorganizing jewelry and handbag fixtures. However, whatever type of day it was we would always always have to focus on customers and sales. Customer satisfaction was always our number one priority. I worked at two different locations and both, luckily, had the most amazing associates. My coworkers were always kind and helpful. I absolutely adored them all. The hardest part of the job, as with any job I would assume, was definitely the hard headed customers. However, I quickly learned how to appease them while still being firm on our company policy. One thing Payless has taught me was to be very patient and quick on my feet to come up with solutions.
Pros
Associates that were always willing to help out.
Cons
Very little hours

Customer service (Current Employee) - Edmonton, AB - 8 July 2013
I haven't worked for Payless for very long yet, but so far I have found it to be enjoyable. The customers are usually great. With the right manager and the right team it has every potential to be a productive job. Unfortunately the pay is terrible and you don't always get the hours that you are promised.

Fun and laid-back workplace
Sales Associate (Former Employee) - Edmonton, AB - 21 January 2013
Working at payless was great. Almost all the people I worked with were very nice and my manager was laid-back and tried to accommodate your schedule. Your duties changed throughout the day so you weren't always on cash, or always closing the store, or always doing shipment. The tasks were switched up so that we learnt how to do all of them. Plus doing repetitive jobs for an entire shift, such as greeting, can get tiresome.
Pros
fun workplace, laid-back
Cons
co-workers on power-trips

I enjoyed this job
Sales Supervisor (Former Employee) - Edmonton, AB - 21 September 2012
There was always something to do. I learned a lot about time management and how to word sayings correctly and in a professional manner. The management was amazing. Co-workers were team based. The hardest part of the job was dealing with a conflict, either between associates or customers. The most enjoyable part of the job is getting to see satisfaction from the customers.
Pros
little stress
Cons
low pay
