9 wonderful years
Assistant Manager (Former Employee) –  Saint-Eustache, QC29 November 2018
To me working for Ultramar who became CST and then Parkland Fuel, helped me shape who I am today. Of course like any company they aren't perfect, but the work team are in general quite wonderful. Working in store, you learn a lot, about time management, multi-tasking and you become an human calculator for chance after a while :) I've learned so much from them. They usually try to accommodate work/studies/family life as much as possible. I've long lasting friends in the workplace. Advancement is very possible, I went from part time night shift to Assistant Manager in a few years.
Pros
Free Coffee, flexible hours
Cons
Sometimes you get bad customers

Huge focus on acquisition and integration, needs more focus on culture development, integrating acquired employees and focus on current staff. Management pushes hard on employees without listening to them or even pretending to care.
Pros
summer hours
Cons
no balance, high expectations, comp and benefits are below average

Not a Nice Company to Work For
Adminstrative (Former Employee) –  Calgary, AB4 September 2018
I had a terrible manager who I did not trust and could not please. I worked day and night and even weekends and holidays. They say you need work/life balance but it never happens and you are not appreciated for it.

The hardest part of the job was you couldn't even go up to higher management for guidance. You are helpless.
Pros
Summer Hours
Cons
You still have to work overtime and not be paid

TERRIBLE Toxic working environment
Representative (Former Employee) –  Burlington, ON25 July 2018
Absolutely toxic poisonous working environment! Pioneer branch of Parkland has a very broken culture and nobody seems to care. Management is a joke, most of whom have been there 20+ years, if you aren't part of the alumni, or hired by someone from Parkland, you're not going to be accepted. Communication is beyond lacking and they have very little organization if any. Toxic workplace is an understatement.

Good place to get experience but lots of problems.
Customer Service Representative (Former Employee) –  Montréal, QC3 August 2018
Management is non-existent in terms of doing their jobs. Frequently getting late to stocking cigarettes, drinks not being stocked, never tell us about the mystery shopper will be visiting our store and we csr are shocked at deals for customers that we have no idea about.

The software is outdated and so is the cash machine. Looks like something from the earlier 2000s and management refuses to get a new machine or improve the software because it "works just fine". This leads to gas pumps constantly going offline due to software issues which causes customers to complain to the csr.

Expect to be doing a lot of cleaning (bathrooms, floors, kitchen) and stocking with the drinks. That can be hard and you have to follow the planogram, so be prepared to take upwards to 2 hours getting all that done.

Other than all that the job isn't too bad in terms work, you get to sit down and for the most part, past the peak times it is pretty quiet.

In terms of pay, it is minimum wage with a slight increase every year you put in.

Use this position as a way to get experience and then get out because there is no future there.
Pros
Lots of down time and relaxed atomosphere.
Cons
Warehousing work, cleaning toilets and old software causes problems

Run while you can!
Store Employee (Former Employee) –  Nova Scotia28 December 2018
Parkland is like every other big company. Their main focus is on money. The very last thing they care about is the employees. When Parkland took over some CST stores they gained a very large amount of long term loyal employees. These long term employees are now losing their jobs because this company doesn't care about a corporate structure and are now changing the stores to company owned retailer operated. You are a number to this company and are easily replaced.

Low wages for what is expected
Branch Representative (Former Employee) –  Flesherton, ON9 September 2017
Management does not hear what employees need to be successful. Sink or swim environment. Women in office work for low wages, and have work piled on them, very stressful during peak season. Men seem to do whatever they want.
On top of all the work management expects you to complete courses and upgrade on your own time, which is difficult for some with busy family life.
Everything is focused on the bottom dollar. Management often circulates information to customers without the branches knowledge until customers start calling with questions, often furious.
Pros
Good benefits

Poor support for overworked staff

Great people, positive and progressive company. Great coworkers, great training, HSE, and leadership.
Branch Manager (Current Employee) –  BC27 June 2017
I thoroughly enjoy my job and look forward coming to work everyday. We have a great staff, satisfied customers and offer a lot of cross training and developmental training for our staff. For a such a large corporation the company has a small business/family feel and a lot of support available. We love to set our staff up to be successful by providing on the job training and support. Great benefits, employee share program and very stable company. If you have drive, a positive attitude and work hard you will thrive. I highly recommend Parkland as a wonderful place to work.
Pros
Lots of work, recoginition for hard work, excellent Safety program

Manager (Current Employee) –  Grande prairie24 December 2016
Parkland is a good place for people wanting to advance. If you are able to relocate you will have lots of opportunity. If you get hired get to know the perks. Be used to change because the company is always looking for new ideas and technology. Seasonal workloads can be demanding so be prepared to have a busy and a slow season. Good benefits, salary and share match program.
Pros
Coworkers. Programs. Opportunities for advancement.
Cons
Changing culture. Seasonal demands. Need to enjoy change.

Progressive and Aggressive Groth Model.
Retail Operations Manager (Current Employee) –  Prince George, BC24 February 2017
Grow Supply Operate under a progressive SLT and Leadership Group. You have to be very versatile and flexable to work Parkland There is never a normal or given gauge to relay on. Expect the unexpected on a month to month basis, Mergers aquisitions, small company buy outs training and updates quarterly were a must. A very lucritive fair employee share plan. Great people to work with in the field started out as a family business. I made long lasting relationships at Parkland. Hardest part was work life family balance, in the demands of managing two Provinces in the retail Fuel supply and formal agreement structure.
Pros
compensations vehicles, Emplyee share and stock optons.
Cons
unhappy customers, immediate reaction time.
