Line Cook (Former Employee) – Regina, SK – 13 March 2018
My life while I was at OJ's was alight, The back of house staff when they did show up were probably the best I have ever worked with, Other times we could run a full line with half of the staff. Busy place during the summer and slower during the winter like anywhere else. Management was ok. Don;t really have any complaints but got all the overtime I could handle. Great team of servers that i worked with at the time.
Server (Current Employee) – Calgary, AB – 1 May 2018
Shifts very depending on the day. Management changes relatively frequently, but all I have worked with have been great. Fun environment to work in, one of the more laid back restaurants I've worked at.
Assistant General Manager / Server (Current Employee) – Sherwood Park, AB – 15 March 2018
I've worked for Original Joes for many years, it is a great environment to learn and grow in. Over the years of being there I've seen turn over in management and a lot in service. Through all of that I've learnt handful of what to' and not to do. I've met the most wonderful people at my location. customers that have truly turned into close friends.
Server (Former Employee) – Vernon, BC – 3 January 2018
The location I was at had a negative environment with kitchen and front of house managers having very harassing personalities. All but one manager was rude and would talk down to serves and treat them as if they were incapable of doing their job. They would get into arguments and yell at employees in front of customers. None of the managers were ever held responsible even after being reported multiple times to the general manager and owner. High turnover rate do the environment created by management.
Kitchen manager (Former Employee) – Medicine Hat, AB – 12 December 2017
Your over worked here. For not the great of pay. The management has no problem in telling you that you wont get paid. Almost think this business should be shut down. The kitchen is disgusting. People not handling food properly or safely.
Dishwasher (Former Employee) – grande prairie, alberta Canada – 27 August 2017
original joes gave me a chance to work with wonderful people, I have made good friends and a knowledgeable management team to answer any question I may have, if given the chance I would gladly work for them again
Expo/ Hostess (Current Employee) – 160th and 24th – 17 October 2016
A typical day at work is going back and forth from the kitchen serving food because I am an expo. Also I greet people and sit them down telling them the specials. The staff is great they are energetic and helpful. They make you feel very welcome when you enter the restaurant. The mangers are very kind and make you feel like you're part of the team, they treat everyone equally. The hardest part of the job is of course when it gets busy. The rush of food coming at you is very hard because you have to make sure that it is made right and going to the right table, and every plate has to go out right away as soon as it comes up. What I have learned by working here is how quick and alert you need to be to get the job done. The most enjoyable part of this job is the staff. They are very friendly and make you feel like you are part of the team from the very start.
Server/ Manager (Former Employee) – Fort St. John, BC – 12 September 2016
I have worked for Original Joe's for just about 2 years now and couldn't have asked for more supportive co-workers and managment to stand by my side. Whether it is personal or with work they are always there for comfort, they are my family. I love the environment of being at work, always!! I don't have anything specific that was tough about the job, but there's always a new obstacle to overcome which personally, keeps it from being boring! If you are a strong server, i recommend this place for you to work :)
Hostess/Expo (Former Employee) – Nanaimo, BC – 21 November 2015
Original Joes is such a fun place to work. There is always great music and great people that create a wonderful environment to work in. It is very busy and has a very high volume of repeat guests. My managers are "the coolest" and maintain a fun yet professional work place. My co workers are exciting and bright and make the restaurant shine. The hardest part of my job is telling people we have a 45 minute wait! We are always busy but it is hard to turn guests away when we do not have the space. The best part of my job is of course the food, every dish is fantastic but I mostly appreciate the environment.
night shifts good salary management not so great food was good supervisors aggressive
Line cook (Former Employee) – Calgary Alberta – 7 September 2015
They started me out as a line cook learning dishes that were not easy to learn quickly. My salary was good and a few of my superiors were great but others were not so great. Overall I enjoyed the work but they were asking me to stay later than I had anticipated on many days. I felt I was just forced to talk to management rather than be told how to improve my skills.
Line cook, Kitchen Manager (Former Employee) – Prince George, BC – 18 August 2015
poor training program, inconsistant thought the franchise, low pay, poor conpinsation, poor benafits for managment, no wilingness to learn from experianced employees, menu is all items stolen from moxies and made with lower quality product
Line Cook (Current Employee) – Edmonton, AB – 31 July 2015
minimum per hour is low. and i didnt get any full time hrs even though my contract is written that i am suppose to work as a full time line cook. but they good to be friendly with them but not like totally as working professional.
It was a fun enviroment to work at and I got to teach using my skills.
Chef (Former Employee) – Calgary, AB – 3 June 2015
The management team where ok but not a lot of communication so a lot of the time I was going in blind and had know idea what the day was going to bring. I did like the people that I worked with they where very hard workers and dedicated to there job.
Benefits, free lunchs
working 6 to 7 days a week, having to do split shifts.
A job which was able to work with my school schedule and my work schedule very well.
Supervisor (Former Employee) – Coquitlam, BC – 4 January 2015
Great place to work, A job in which I took in high school while I was finishing up my grade 11 and 12 year. Learned quite a a lot about teamwork and what it means to be apart of a team. Management was fantastic not only because the general manager was a family friend but because all of the other managers were fair and fun to work with. Two of the co-workers were people I went to school with so the different employees were awesome to work with. The hardest part of the job would have to be the stress factor which came into place. My first few days on the job but as time went on it was just something you became use to and learned how to deal with it. The most enjoyable part of the job would have to be the fact I got to work with two of me very close friends.
Line cook (Current Employee) – Airdrie, AB – 25 June 2014
-The staff is very friendly and welcoming -The work keeps you on your toes, there is never a dull moment, it helped me learn to better manage my time to get everything finished in a timely manner -The management team is very passionate about the company and tries hard to make all members of staff feel valued -At times it seems like a large portion of the staff treats the job as a a hang out session with friends instead of a work place which can make doing your job professionally harder at times -At the end of the day the staff feels like a close nit family with makes going to work everyday that much more enjoyable
