Good intro job but not suitable for long term

Indeed featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
Lots of cold calling people and selling memberships. Difficult to sell at times because clients found they were over priced. Could be really stressful at times. Not alot of wage increases even if you've been there for a few years. However, the team was great and geniuenly cared about eachother

Pros

Free workouts

Cons

Do not work here.

If you enjoy having any sort of life outside of work do not work here. They require minimum 2 months notice for any time off and even then don't approve the request 99% of the time. They expect you to drop everything for them as if people in their early 20s don't have a life outside of work.Paid insultingly low for amount of work required, and they upsell how much you actually make in commission. They will also not pay you your last commission pay if you hand in your two weeks notice before the pay is scheduled. Working out on shift is also not allowed so I'm not sure why that is advertised. There is no flexibility, or appreciation for employees. We did not even have a break room to eat - most meals we had to eat our car while the manager worked out of the one "employee only" office.

Management needs work.

Great place to help change lives and motivate members to workout. Management was not good and lacks direction, value and appreciation of employees/coaches. Workplace is a clique and the lack of compassion /empathy towards employees is astounding for a place that is supposed to promote health and wellnessNo room for advancement, and pay scale is dependent on the number of people who attend your class. If you end up on a bum schedule, you make less money than someone who has the peak hour classes. Pay scale will never change, and no possibility of a raise despite mandatory continuing education courses and online work (on your off time).

Pros

Free workouts

Cons

Under valued, under paid, no room for career growth, not ideal shift work hours.

High turnover workplace

High turnover rate and constantly understaffed due to employee burnout. Pay is too low for job requirements. Upper management does not care about employee or member feedback.

Review

High stress for little compensation. Management is constantly changing as do the expectations- there is little work life balance for such an entry level position.

Stressful place to work

The work culture is terrible very high schools and cliques. Management overworks you and they expect you to not have a personal life would not recommend working here.

Pros

Free gym membership

Cons

Overworked

Worst company to work for

Owners do not care about their staff, and will treat you with such disrespect it’s actually disgusting. They only care about numbers and not about the people. They will uptalk commission but you’ll barley make anything because no one buys since it is ridiculously overpriced (219$ a month and there’s not even a change room) The company is ran by literal children who have no experience! they are so desperate they will take anyone they can get.

Overworked and underpaid

This was easily the worst job i’ve ever had. Expect you to make this job your life, over work the heck out of you just to make minimum wage. Never again.

Management is terrible. They don’t accommodate for work-life balance and expect to much. Management steals commissions.

Terrible would not recommend working there. Only 5 front of house staff so if someone calls in sick you are expected to drop everything and help. They do not pay you enough for what they expect and will guilt you when you say no. Only benefit are working out while you work.

Non productive

Way to over bearing, want crazy amount of work for little wage. Dress code is way to strict, they want to do reviews all the time and expect you make the best numbers every month. Save your time, don’t worry at this company.

Good workout programs. Easy to learn and to coach. Friendly staff.

I really enjoyed my time as a coach at Orangetheory fitness. The workout programs are well designed and are easily learned and implemented for the class. The fact that you don't have to come up with the workouts is definitely a bonus.

Fun place to work with the right team.

I’m as high up as I can go in the company so I feel stuck. Owners can’t stick to how they want to run things.Work/life balance does not exist for management.Compensation is not fairly set.

Pros

Free membership

Cons

management is more concerned about entitled members than staff.

Save yourself the trouble and work somewhere else

OTF Calgary has to be one of the WORST places I have ever worked. Their regional is nasty, and the management turnover is crazy high. No sense of structure. Very clear that no one with any actual business sense runs them. Always trying to scam their customers too. 10/10 would never work here again

Pros

Free workouts

Cons

Everything else

Worst Management I’ve Ever Experienced

The level of disarray and disorganization at this company was appalling. I went through 2 studio managers during my very short time there and while the first one wasn’t great, the second one wasn’t fully trained and was afraid of confrontation. There was no communication between sales team and management, except for the occasional passive-aggressive email. Management would tell you you were perfect to your face when you ask them directly for feedback but would talk unprofessionally about problems to staff in other departments (problems that you didn’t know you had!). Our studio was also severely understaffed and that made it so 1 employee had to do the jobs of 2 employees. For minimum wage, save yourself the headache and go somewhere else. There are plenty of other opportunities. This job should not be a career but should be okay for a student if they can handle a toxic work environment.

Pros

Members were nice most of the time, free stand by workouts

Cons

Commission structure is insultingly low, high expectations for low wage, they nickel and dime their customers who pay $200/month, have to fight tooth and nail to find coverage, no acknowledgement for accomplishments

Horrible management

Working here is like a call centre environment with highly unrealistic goals where you're underpaid for the amount of responsibilities you have. You're a receptionist, greeter, janitor, call centre agent, salesman, IT support all at once.

Pros

Free standby workouts Members are nice

Cons

Understaffed so no coverage, Extremely high turnover, No real benefits, Commission structure is a joke, Treated like a number, not a human being

Underpaid, overworked, terrible upper management

My interview and manager was great, but upper management and head office is terrible. Lots of broken promises to try to keep people on the hook hoping for more.

Pros

Free membership

Cons

Bad culture, broken promises

Coaching is fun, management sucks

The actual coaching part of your job is fantastic! Get to interact with so many different members throughout the day and help them towards their fitness goals. Templates and themes change daily so never boring. Depending on your co-coaches, can often choose your own schedule to fit other part-time jobs, school, etc. No room for advancement, and pay scale is dependent on the number of people who attend your class. If you end up on a bum schedule, you make less money than someone who has the peak hour classes. Pay scale will never change, and no possibility of a raise despite mandatory continuing education courses and online work (on your off time).

Pros

Free classes off shift, flexible schedule

Cons

No advancement, no chance of raise, hit or miss paychecks
