Busy, fast paced, management is clicky.
Clinic Assistant (Former Employee) - Strathmore, AB - 27 October 2023
Indeed featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedA typical day can see hundreds of patients. You are expected to run the clinic have time to rebook, run insurance, answer phones, take care of practitioners and maintain a smile on your face at all times. It's not easy. I loved the job but the culture was lacking. Practitioners can be nice but you can't trust anyone. The manager loves to talk to people and will get up from the desk and leave to talk to patients or practitioners or even private phone calls and leave you to do all the work. The manager will also leave on her lunch break and say they have to do banking etc and won't come back for hours. The other CA'S are clicky and will say rude things to you and will give you the work they are supposed to do/help with like cleaning of the clinic and scanning/uploaded to patients files. The owner of the clinic seems to have no say and when there is an issue doesn't seem to care. Says what did the manager say. Seems to hide behind the manager and take no responsibility for his business. Benifit package sucks. Doesn't have much in it and is expensive for what you get. Seems like the cheapest blue cross plan you can get. Pay is OK but is below the standard for a CA position.
Pros
Fast paced, Free chiro
Cons
Benifits, pay, culture and mistrust

Busy, but very rewarding
Clinic Assistant (Current Employee) - Strathmore, AB - 8 November 2023
I have learned and grown a lot in my two years with Optimum Wellness. I came from a reception background with no medical knowledge and it was absolutely a learning curve at first. The training was very hands on. I was given scenarios and then walked through it on the system. When it came to in clinic learning there was a day or two of watching and soaking in the atmosphere and then it is very hands on going forward. I'm very much a visual learner and it was a great learning environment for myself. The clinic manager and other CA, as well as head office were all very supportive and were always there if I had any questions or needed to be walked through anything on the system. It is very busy, but it's also very rewarding. We have many patients come through the doors and they are in so much pain, and to see them leave with some relief or come back for their follow up and hear how much it helped is always very rewarding. I was also well prepared in the interview process and informed that it is a very busy and fast paced position. A lot of multitasking is needed for the day to day tasks but coming from my past position where I didn't really have much work to do, I much prefer this. Most days are busy, there's always work to be done and the time flies by. In my particular clinic the workplace culture is incredibly positive. Everyone is very respectful and it's a fairly tight knit community. The practitioners are all very communicative and appreciative of their peers. There's lots of internal referencing as well. If someone is seeing a practitioner and they could benefit -
Pros
Helping people, great team, hands on training, helpful head office/management
Cons
Dealing with rude patients

Registered Massage Therapist (Current Employee) - Canyon Meadows, AB - 2 March 2023
since i was hired by optimum wellness i have been getting plenty of support from head office (Chelsea). She really cares about the success of her employees and goes far and beyond to help us as professionals build our clientele and practice. when it comes to the work place itself, all clinics have a very friendly staff who is willing to help and support.

Great place to work if you put in the work.
Chiropractor (Current Employee) - Calgary, AB - 22 February 2023
Optimum Wellness Centres has given me a great platform to succeed since starting with them. They allow me to treat in the style and pace of my preference while giving me a stable platform of support in the form of accountants, clinical assistants, etc. that are all managed and ran by the head office. This allows me to come in to work and do what I do best, focusing on the treatments side of this as opposed to billing, etc.

Terrible contract and consistent mistakes on pay to the benefit of employers. You will not be paid for irrevocables(not disclosed)which make up a large portion of treatments. Poor treatment of staff and lack of respect. Major favoritism for chiropractic. Very poor management. Unfair wages.

Does not accommodate
Clinical Assistant (Former Employee) - Corporate Office - 30 January 2023
I am absolutely disgusted with my short time at Optimum Wellness. I was told different hours in my interview compared to what was expected. They do not accommodate for daycare schedules. It was a matter of a half hour in a shift that I would’ve needed to leave early to pick up my daughter from daycare. It is crazy to me that it’s 2023 & it isn’t an accommodating place for mothers to go back to work after mat leave. To which they knew all of this from my interview & still hired me.

Don’t waste your time.
RMT (Former Employee) - Canyon Meadows, AB - 15 November 2022
Big company , they do not care about their contractors , or ensuring any work , but they will make you sign a ridiculous contract so they are protected. I was warned before working here by other RMTs who had been burned and now I am one of them! Don’t waste your time here !

Good place to work
Practitioner (Current Employee) - Calgary, AB - 25 October 2022
Every location has its own quirks like many companies with multiple locations but overall the staff are supportive and try to help each other out. There are team building activities and room for advancement.

Great collaborative place to work.
Registered Massage Therapist (Current Employee) - Calgary, AB - 15 August 2022
I've worked in a number of places with doctors and physios, as an RMT I always felt second rate, but at Optimum I feel treated with respect. The Chiropractors refer a lot and really helpful to work with.
Pros
A real clinical setting, not a spa. There's no ceiling on how much you can make, just depends on how much you want to work.

Official response from Optimum Wellness Centres
8 November 2022We have never had Physiotherapy at our Canyon Meadows location and find it interesting that you say you were an employee at that location. I think you may have made this comment on the wrong company page.

Really enjoyed my time here
Clinical Assistant (Former Employee) - Calgary, AB - 26 June 2022
This job is VERY stressful to learn, but extremely rewarding and enjoyable. I had no prior clinic experience which did not help. There is a lot to learn and you are expected to learn fast. Optimum offers a lot of support and training and patience to learn. Once you get the hang of it, it’s so fun. I have most always felt support and trust from management. It isn’t terribly difficult to get time off and they offer a benefits plan for fully time employee. It definitely varies from clinic to clinic. The busier clinics are a lot harder as they are fast paced. If you can meet that pace and enjoy quick thinking they’re perfect. The slower clinics are nice too. You get to know the patients well. The only issue that caused problems for me is often the practitioners do not understand how difficult it is to be a clinic assistant. They pay admin fees so often they treat you like a personal assistant, and forget that you manage multiple practitioners at once and have entirely separate job duties of your own. Expectations of you are high, but reasonable. The problem with the busier clinics is that the expectations of you are higher, but the pay is the same. Regardless, I think the pay is fair for the expectations. I feel respected and appreciated by optimum wellness centres and I would recommend working there.
Pros
Supportive staff, good benefits, fair pay
Cons
Higher than normal turnover, difficult to learn

Optimum
Registered Massage Therapist (Current Employee) - Calgary, AB - 15 November 2021
On top of the 60% therapists are payed. The head office takes a huge chunk out of our salary for admin and appointment fees. I understand that we get bookings through our admin, however if you're a therapist that does not see a lot of patients then it's a huge blow to your income. Head office seems to focus on their more established therapists than their new ones. Meaning, you'll probably sit in your massage room for 8 hours hoping that at least one patient comes in. Weeks with open schedules but head office does not give you the resources, nor book you with patients. Chiropractors and physio with full schedules. it seems like massage therapist have to start from zero. Thanks optimum for advertising the average salary of a massage therapist. Most of your therapist don't even make close to what you advertise. Other than that staff are friendly and encouraging.
Pros
Friendly staff
Cons
Bad pay

Do not recommend.
Clinic Assistant (Current Employee) - Calgary, AB - 9 February 2021
If you get a good clinic it’s an okay place to work. Dealing with head office is a nightmare. If I had known what I know now, I would never have started there.
Pros
Patients are amazing. Most practitioners are amazing.
Cons
Company doesn’t back you. Long hours. Not enough training provided.
