Great opportunity to learn about Human Services
CASE MANAGER-STUDENT PRACTICUM (Former Employee) - Hamilton, ON - 16 September 2020
Each day, as a Student on practicum from the Social Service Worker program of Mohawk College, I began my day, punctually after exchanging greetings with other staff. My time was allocated carefully to allow for review of new messages on the computer system about any changes to human services legislation or procedures.I verified with my supervisor my duties for the day. Each day I listened and documented telephone messages for multiple Case Managers. Each message was reviewed and followed up as appropriate based upon the requests of the caller. Each entry was documented using case note style. I was able to prepare and sometimes lead interview sessions with clients. As well, provide information on other services or organizations that may support their needs. Paper work was completed together with clients and forwarded for filing. Documentation of the interview was carefully input in the computer system.
Pros
Working in a professional human services environment
Cons
Computer programs that may stall

Its a very interesting day to say the least. Its also the team that i work with is very outgoing. The management works with you to ensure proper results.
The most enjoyable part of the job is handing out the cheques to those individuals. The hardest part of the day would be the closing balance for each client.

Excellent Team
Case Manager Assistant Field Placement Practical (Former Employee) - Hamilton, ON - 3 July 2012
I worked on the youth team under two amazing case managers who helped guide and teach me many things about clients. Customer service is a large part of the job as well as working with the clients through whatever crisis they may have been going through at the time that they came into the office to be seen. The hardest part of the job is dealing with difficult clients. I enjoyed assisting clients where I could with their issues that they were having.
