Great place to work, diverse group of people. I worked as a contractor in the projects and mods division and that was always exciting and fast paced. Great salary, if you get a full time offer that’s as good as it gets.

People are friendly, salary and benefits are good.

OPG is the goal employer for any technical professional (or other) in Ontario. Represented by PWU, we have some of the best benefit packages in the country, and our salary progression is laid out concisely in our collective agreement. Operations is essentially feast or famine, one day is very relaxed, and another is the most busy/stressful days of your year. Great company to work for and looking forward to seeing where it will take my career.

Lots of paper work to do jobs. Learning curve is very slow because of the security and safety of any jobs performed on the site. They pay well and good.

working in Ontario Power generation is good if you hired as permanent. If you got hired as temporary staff, you wont get any benefits as other employees also, your work load is more than permanent ones.

Good pay, better than most others.
Benefits cannot be matched by any other.

Typical day in projects involves talking to contractors and tracking progress of the current projects.

After taking 4 months to start work at OPG excepting a TERM position and joining the Local union 2309. The pay scale I was given is nowhere close to what was it is. If you are a fully licensed Millwright and can live off 36.71 an hour after everything they take out of you, than it’s a place for you. All personal working here are supportive and great to work with.
Pros
Good people to work with
Cons
Long commute, Low pay

I worked there on a six month contract. I supported four project managers. everyone was helpful and friendly. I managed their calendars, meetings, expenses and reports. the hardest part of the job was staying organized, which I managed to do quite well. the most enjoyable part of the job was learning more about nuclear reactors.
Pros
early hours, benefits
Cons
tons of work every day

It is really a pleasure to work for OPG. Majority of the people want to do a good job and want to help others out. The hardest part of the job is related to process which is expected from an industry such as nuclear. Things don't move as fast as in other industries which took some adjusting. The most enjoyable part of my job is interfacing with people around the company.
Pros
Great people, Excellent benefits and compensation
Cons
Need a lot of patience

OPG provides relatively good salaries (although private companies offer much more for identical jobs). But it has a very boring atmosphere with not much incentives.

A good place to work. Salaries for management have been suppressed for 10+ years due to gov't imposed constraints. This makes it very difficult to attract talent from bargaining unit ranks.

Workplace culture shift underway to facilitate management style, however this is not apparent in several current leaders.
Pros
Benefits, Performance recognition (bonus) program.
Cons
Hours, Favouritism in hiring, Current hiring and advancement decisions are greatly influenced by anxiety over downsizing.

Great place to gain experience as a new person but as time goes on you see people sacrifice their joy and life for a pay check and benefits. The Golden Handcuffs as people would say.

While there are knowledgeable staff who want to do a good job and earn their keep, there are a small number of staff who back-stabs and does no work, upwards delegating their work as there is absolutely nothing management would do to correct the situation.

Speaking of management, the most incompetent and sociopathic people reside in those roles, often play nothing but favouritism to their buddies, and move an overwhelming work load to those "outside of the circle". However, when it comes to evaluation time, those inside the circle, those who come in at 8:30 and leave at 3:30, those who get unlimited resources whenever asked for, those who do not have any real job responsibilities are the ones who get good ratings. Those who work around the clock, with unmanageable tasks that upper management couldn't manage for years, those who follows governance and get things done, those who try to bridge the chasm between management and staff, would get rated horribly.

It's come to a point where the competent staff would refuse to take on management roles because of the horrible behaviours they observed at a management level.

Upper management has no interest in running a normal environment, as they are generally ignorant of the required skill sets. By rewarding those who are generally incompetent through high ratings and bonuses, upper management continues to perpetuate this incompetence.
Pros
Pay, benefits
Cons
Crushing, depressing toxic work environment
