Great place to work, feels like family
GUEST SERVICES MANAGER (Former Employee) - Toronto, ON - 21 May 2022
Indeed featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedShift are not that great but get better with seniority. Hard to get good shift in hotels anyways unless you work in sales or back office job (accoutning/hr). The ambiance was really great when I worked there, felt like a second family and enjoyed being there. There are opportunity to grow as well as long as you perform the best
Pros
Free lunch, event, hotel discount, benefits
Cons
Breaks and shift work

Toxic Environment
Marketing Coordinator (Former Employee) - Toronto, ON - 22 October 2023
The superiors do not take good care of the employees, they are not grateful and very loyal. It's a nice hotel but the employees are poorly treated. I would not recommend this hotel.

Great place to work
Sales Representative (Current Employee) - Toronto, ON - 7 March 2023
This hotel is really unique with some many long standing employees who love the king eddy. Omni is a great owner who invests in its staff. They focus a lot on the guest experience.
Pros
Free meals, good compensation, open communication, room for advancement
Cons
Not a well known brand in Canada, needs a renovation

Poor Management
Rooms Division Supervisor (Former Employee) - Toronto, ON - 18 December 2022
Although they try to be there and help you solve issues, nothing really happens. The lack of investment in hiring more people and improve services overall is disappointing on the long run for the staff. Everyone works so hard to offer the best guest satisfaction but management does poorly to nothing when there's an urgent need to hire more people and have more competitive services.

Great hotel I've ever worked for!
Guest Services Agent (Former Employee) - 37 King St E, Toronto, ON M5C 1E9 - 23 October 2020
I enjoyed my time working for the Omni King Edward Hotel. It was one of several places I worked for where the hiring manager took a chance on me despite me not having an intermediate knowledge of the operation at the time. I was fortunate enough that I had an average knowledge of the Opera because I was tested during the interview. HR was/is very accommodating and approachable. Managers and staff are approachable but vary from one to the other but luckily for me I was able to gauge their work sentiments that made it more efficient for me to work. The General Manager is approachable and emanates a sense of passion for the property and the industry. The GM visited my department from time to time to check on our work/well-being of which I truly appreciate. The work environment is what sold the King Edward Hotel for me but it is their employees that made me stay and want to grow with. From Valet to Housekeeping, the majority I worked with are very accommodating and willing to assist. Of course there were work disagreements, but then again, no work environment ever gone through without one. It is unfortunate that my time were impermanent but I'd work here again.
Pros
Accommodating Management and Staff. Good location. Near transit. Landmark Hotel. Good wages.
Cons
Desired work schedule will be based on seniority level (Not really a Con).

Hotel with strong culture
Demi Chef (Current Employee) - Toronto, ON - 18 June 2020
It's an old building wrapping a strong and yet updated working culture, consists of young staffs that are willing to learn and the senior ones, including the Chefs that are more than willing to teach and train
Pros
Mostly fix schedule
Cons
More training for staff

Respectable work environment
Guest Service Manager (Former Employee) - Toronto, ON - 10 June 2020
King Eddy is one of my favorite places to work. This place has a loving and welcoming environment and gives equal opportunities to all its employees to grow and values opinions.
The only recommendation would be work life balance for management employees in certain departments.
I would recommend King Eddy to all my friends.

Banquet has good tips but few hours for new hired employees.
Banquet Server (Former Employee) - Toronto, ON - 7 February 2020
I think the main issue is the little attention to hard working employees that are giving their maximum to accomplish their job tasks, instead there is more attention to seniors servers that at certain point get accommodated by Union protection and many times create more difficult situations and a hardship work environment for rest of workers and the managers than their own productivity at work.
So not much career advancement at this department (banquets) because time working is more valuable than quality of work for them. Is sad but real now if you have time for wait until someone gets retired and wants some good tips this is the job and company for you. Probably i just get there with the wrong management team but please do not misunderstand my message this is still a good place to work depending of the department, your experience and why not your luck!
Oh is good to mention that HR team are the best!

union limitations
server (Former Employee) - victoria restaurant - 20 November 2019
Unless you get hired as full time, you don't get consistent hours and have to have a second job. So, people can take your hours on the schedule as soon as it comes out, so if you are part time, you're screwed. You get trained in every department and only get used as a relief for people going on vacation. This is while you are struggling to get more than 20 hours a week and feed your family while relieving someone who gets to go on vacation and have benefits. Sucks big time, plus there is a huge rotation of managers who quit and go somewhere else...

Beautiful old building, decent place to start for security/hospitality sector
SECURITY GUARD (Former Employee) - Toronto, ON - 19 March 2019
One of Toronto's oldest hotels in a historic district. Apart from the sights, work is managed as most hotels are: departmentalised. It can be hectic but also very repetitive.

Toxic Environment
Ideal Service Agent (Former Employee) - Toronto, ON - 30 December 2018
expected to work inconsistent hours, days, evenings and overnights. Senior management is careless and does not understand the front line positions. Management only cares about revenue and not the employees.
Pros
front line positions are unionized
