Stay far away! They will lure you in with false promises and dazzle you with the trappings of Sports and Entertainment. However, a crushing reality will hit you after working day and night at slave wages, only to be marginalized and then kicked out because you did not make the Popular Kids club. I now understand why the Edmonton Oilers are a disaster on the ice...it starts with the organization itself and ends with the Owner that runs it.

Unfortunately when first opened this was a great job with an awesome management team. Due to some poor choices on behalf of the Executive team and Human Resources this job is just "a job."

Too many changes each year, no full time, no job security and management team is unfriendly and hard to work for.

Although my time was shorter than anticipated with the Edmonton Oilers, I had truly enjoyed the professional environment that was put into place by the teams and the management. I would go back in an heart beat

OEG is a great organization overall, minus the Ticketing Department.

The management from the Directors end is cancerous and made it virtually impossible to have a work life balance and feel a part of OEG when staffing events happened (activities, early dismissal etc.).

You will learn helpful information if you choose to stay in the sales industry, especially if you make adjustments that aren't as pushy.

Compliments towards the position is just having an opportunity to work in sport and your co-workers.

Highly recommend avoiding the Ticket Sales department unless changes were made. Recommend positions elsewhere in the company as they have great management overall.
Pros
Co-workers, Working in Sport
Cons
Zero Work Life, Overworked

The company lacks leadership in general from upper management and senior executives. There is no communication and no support. Salaries and benefits are not competitive. Atmosphere is like walking on egg shells due to the fear of being Layed Off at any moment. It seems that when the Oilers don’t succeed during the season, they make major cuts to save a dime.

The HR Department is not accommodating and understanding to certain issues IE Mental health. If something happens, they make you feel like it’s a major inconvenience and that it’s unacceptable.

One good thing about working for this company was the work life balance. It was easy to accomodate appointments and work from home if need be.

The perks are not what they are cracked up too be. Tickets to concerts are provided to upper management as incentives but most use them on their personal friends.

I highly do no recommend working for OEG if you desire job security and room for advancement.

I worked on the Activation team and would highly recommend this position for students. Very fun, fast, and flexible. The management is improving and you get amazing opportunities to see behind the scenes action.

At first I was really excited to work here. All of the staff were friendly and more than happy to let a new person in. Everyone was honestly so welcoming and nice. After you get through the nice phase of everything and thinking how great the company is you learn that everything that HR talked about wasn't so true. It is really hard to advance to a new position, the hours are really long with few pay offs, the pay is not at all where it should be, and there was no communication. No one listens to what you have to say if you aren't an executive because your opinion doesn't matter. If you want a new position you better be best friends with HR, or they'll hire someone else.

The perks are that your co-workers do become family and there are friendships that will last a life time. When you get the opportunity there are small chances to go to events, hockey and concerts. Those benefits though DO NOT compensate for the amount of time you put into the company.

If you are young and like to work lots, do it and have a backup plan. If you are looking to actually have a career with advancements, I'd look somewhere else. After leaving the company you really see what it is about, don't drink the kool-aid.
Pros
meeting your new best friends
Cons
long hours, terrible pay, no advancement

The company lacks leadership in general from upper management and senior executives. There is no communication and no support. Salaries and benefits are not competitive. Atmosphere is like walking on egg shells due to constant lay offs and employee turnover. There are a lot more organizations out there that are established and well managed with much more to offer.
Pros
Location is close to good restaurants.
Cons
Everything else.

Tons of potential but no direction or leadership. Think you’ll get perks like oilers tickets? Think again. Executives take them all for themselves and never pass them down to the staff. No room for growth even though they say in the interview there will be. Wouldn’t recommend working here.

My biggest complaint is the hard work some put in and then get ignored or forgotten about. I find the younger aged employee's (not all), do not follow uniform protocol, they whine, complain about where they are posted etc and they still get best shifts, more shifts, off early better postings. Management seems to ignore emails and requests and favors some over others. Doesn't seem like there is any possibility to move up from this position at all even though they tell you that when they hire you. Supervisors (some) tell you what to do then do the opposite. They do not "have your back" when you try to deal with a guest who is breaking rules. However, there is lots of friendly staff, staff meals have changed for better, but now very repetitive so is getting boring already. No discounts at stores or food vendor's (except good food pricing in staff room). No team players from one department to the other. Food and Bev, security and Guest Experience should be working together and they don't!
Pros
seeing some games and concerts
Cons
disorganized management favors some over others not recgonized for hard work

HR is terrible, they take forever to do anything. They are horribly set up for the amount of employees and the likely hood of advancement is a joke. Work at your own risk ;)

So much potential, but a company that has grown to fast with no real leadership or direction. New hires are not set up for success, poor communication from management to staff, too many department "silos", poor pay, long hours, lack of feedback are some of the cons. If you are young and just starting your career, this is an exciting place to work. However, if you want to grow professionally, enjoy a work life balance and want to paid a competitive wage, this is not the place for you. I thought this was my dream job, but the honeymoon phase wore off quickly. OEG has alot of room for improvement and until that happens, I would not recommend them.
Pros
Free tickets; access to exclusive events

It's a pretty chill atmosphere. you're hands on with lots of guests and guests rely on you to know almost everything in the building like where every single water fountain. it doesn't take too long to have it all down. Everyone is really friendly there and management is very good at picking the right people. The main thing they are looking for is how nice you are and manners. The hardest part of the job that i found was working double show days, because those were 12 hour days and it's a lot of standing. The most enjoyable parts of the job are seeing all the fans and having conversations with them and seeing hockey players and various acts up close.
Pros
you get to see a good portion of games and concerts on the job
Cons
not enough hours after hockey season is done

A typical day at work is scanning in to find your briefing. Once you are in your briefing area, your supervisor will tell you where you are working and you will go to your post and fulfill the responsibilities you are expected to uphold. The management is amazing and super amazing. I have learned so much being an employee.
Pros
Amazing staff and management
Cons
lots of standing
