Great company
Driver (Current Employee) - Sexsmith, AB - 20 June 2023
Indeed featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedGreat company to work for. My only gripes are no RRSP and the benefits have been reduced recently. There’s a great safety bonus program. Hard workers who communicate effectively are treated very well.

Different locations on a regular basis
Class One Driver (Former Employee) - Fort St. John, BC - 21 February 2023
Holling fluid was new to me, and they trained me well and made sure I had all specific training required. I really enjoyed working for them and would still be there today if it wasn’t for my accident.

Decent equipment, long hours & good pay
Truck Driver - Class 1 (Former Employee) - Sexsmith, AB - 28 January 2023
Great place to work if you want hours and to stay busy. Units are kept in good order, dispatchers are solid and work with you, and the manager is understanding but doesn't put up with bs. If you want an 8-5, or you want to run 2 logs and work non stop, look elsewhere. If you want good wages with max hours while staying completely legal, this is the place to be.
Pros
Good wages, lots of overtime
Cons
Units are getting beat up but still in good order compared to most companies in GP

Poor culture and lack of focus
It is very important to be buddies with the owner or his family. Business decisions were made with little to no analysis behind them. Cultures of the businesses they buy often don't fit very well.
Pros
Some of the managers/administrators are awesome
Cons
Owner; nepotism

Relaxed atmosphere
Driver (Current Employee) - Fort Saskatchewan, AB - 18 September 2022
Excellent team atmosphere. Work is steady and constant. Management is always approachable and listening. Pay is competitive and is always on time. Equipment is a little older now but is very well maintained. Highly recommend anyone looking for a driving job for the long term.

Toxic Work Environment
Administrator (Former Employee) - Fort St. John, BC - 30 May 2022
Oculus does not treat all employees with the same respect. Management deprecates the admin especially in everyway. In managements eyes the admin easily replaceable If you bring up an issue the attitude is well if you don't like it quit. It is true that filing an admin position would be easier to fill than an driver position but in my opinion all employees should be treated with the same respect.

One Of The Best Work Environments
Driver (Current Employee) - Grande Prairie, AB - 17 May 2022
I've been working at Oculus Gp for a few years now and I can personally say its a different environment. Everyone works as a team they all go the extra mile to get things done.
Pros
The people.
Cons
Our industry inconsistent changes.

Its alright, first little bit was amazing but it doesn't take much
Pipeyard (Former Employee) - Grande Prairie, AB - 16 May 2022
Some people are amazing like the office, but the pipeyard has alot of harassment going around, but overall oculus as a company is amazing but the pipeyard in the gp branch is a very difficult place to work at due to constant harassment

Oculus Red Deer
Class 1 Driver (Former Employee) - Red Deer, AB - 21 April 2022
It was good in the beginning, but it turned into a poisoned, negative atmosphere. Threats to your job by management, decisions seem to be made on a whim, no planning or discussion. Some very large egos in the office and shop, that also could not control their temper. Negative, secretive gossip from the Ivory Tower. The branch manager tried to do the best as possible but had little power and was constantly being undermined by the corporates, eventually he resigned. Revolving door of mechanics because the foreman was difficult to work with. The money is good and the equipment is fairly new but incorrectly spec'd for the job. It seemed as though there was a constant problem with getting paid correctly and fairly for the work you did. Also there is the looming possibility that the Red Deer shop is going to close because they have built a new shop in Fort Sask. They had some very experienced, high quality drivers in Red Deer but slowly they all left, now it is just a revolving door.
Pros
Decent money
Cons
Under powered, under spec'd equipment. Negative, poisoned environment at Red Deer branch..

Truck Driver (Former Employee) - Sexsmith, AB - 14 March 2022
If you want to get trained this place to go. There are always training people. Unfortunately the senior guys sit at home and new guys work to get trained up during slow times.
Pros
Always Training Green people
Cons
Senior guys treated like new guys that are green

Expect long days. Meet new life long friends! The trucks have small bunks but the company is planning on keeping a new fleet on the road.
Truck Driver (Current Employee) - Red Deer, AB - 16 February 2022
I enjoy working for Oculus, they are an up and coming company growing fast in the butane/ngl field and after a year and a half here I am still very happy to work for them. I have a designated truck that is very well maintained whenever I do a reset. They allow me to maintain a 5-2 5-3 schedule so I can always know when I am with my family enjoying life outside of work.
Pros
Top pay compared to competitors, good benefits, no problem getting time off. They respect job/life balance.
Cons
Long hours. Expect to be gone for 5 days at a time. 14 hr days, make lots of money😉

Best place to work in town
Heavy Duty Mechanic (Former Employee) - Grande Prairie, AB - 4 June 2021
i have worked for oculus just shy of 6 years. they have taken me in and treated me like i am a family member. have gone through a lot in the 6 years i was there and always made sure to take care of me and have my back. the guys in the shop are all close and the culture is something i have never seen makes it super easy to come to work every day. management is easy to get along with and has a open door policy you can come talk to them any time about anything and they will do their best to work with you. if your looking for a great place to work for long term i would highly recommend coming to work here
Pros
treated very well!
Cons
cant think of any

Great equipment and work environment
Driver, Dispatcher, Tank Farm (Current Employee) - Sexsmith, AB - 28 May 2021
Best company I've worked for to date. Team atmosphere with room and available training to grow within. Very unique culture here. When the crunch is on, everyone pulls together to achieve goals in an extremely competitive and demanding market. Lets face it, working in the oil and gas sector is not easy, but knowing that you have a team around you to assist and support, how can you not succeed.
Pros
Great work enviroment
Cons
Demanding job

Its like making a deal with the devil
Driver presently leaving (Former Employee) - Alberta - 30 March 2021
During interview dave and pat will fill your head with lies that everything is paid safety is priority and they are family oriented trust me stay away in the end i could tell you nightmare stories about them that would probably even lead to arrest being made threatening drivers firing 1 driver after he approached them regarding dispatch telling him to get up at 3am and drive while out of service hours not paying for work done and wait time cutting over while drive around in fancy company vehicles not even base models so one would wonder if you can afford that but then you tell me you have to cut my pay the safety kid as i call him matt aka mr husky k.a. only wants to hear what violations husky thinks your breaking dont mention anything to him about management or dispatch breaking rules you'll be fired immediately way too much to tell just find past and present drivers if they are honest they will tell you.
Pros
None very toxic and unsafe
Cons
Pay cuts long wait times with no pay threats against your job when you refuse unsafe work

Do not trust their words, you will be disappointed
Driver (Former Employee) - Alberta - 3 March 2021
Promises made by general manager that it was a long term employment were drastically shattered just shy of three months so they wouldn't have to pay health benefits. Long term employees confirm every busy winter season they hire many drivers with promises of great pay, benefits, long-term employment - the reality is it's just so they can employ people to make them work as hard as possible, and then dismiss them when they realize that your health benefits will kick in shortly. The work is decent, Dispatch is brutally bad, favoritism runs rampant among Dispatch to certain drivers, and health and safety are online courses only, no actual practical enforcement if it gets in the way of profit.
Pros
Long long long hours
Cons
Poor dispatching

Steady hours
Class 1 Driver (Current Employee) - Red Deer, AB - 27 January 2021
All around decent job, benefits are pretty good so is the pay manager tries hard for his employees but seems to side with dispatch like most trucking companies cause he sees them daily vs the drivers.
Pros
Benefits, some designated units
Cons
Dispatchers seem inexperienced believe because they don’t pay enough for the position

A joke of a company. don't even try.
Truck Driver - Class 1 (Former Employee) - Edmonton, AB - 14 December 2020
Lot's of free work unpaid. Not worth at all. It was good at the beginning after they starting cutting this and that. Lots of lay off after that. people need steady jobs not promises.
Pros
No pros
Cons
all cons
