good place to work

Indeed featured review

Good place to work, However work load is a little heavy. Team work is average. Management is good. Workload for staff could improve as usually are short-staffed.

Very stressful

To put it simple! If you are looking for a place to work where you are treated with respect and dignity, this is NOT a good option. CEO is disengaged and too arrogant to consider frontline and middle management recommendations to fix the horrible morale. The organization is in complete chaos and absolutely no follow through. Direction and any plans for improvement are never followed through or executed properly to see results of success. Proper orientation for most positions including Management is pretty much non existent and everyone is left to figure things out by trial and error. Front line staff are amazing but definitely burnt out with no relief in site for the near future. All band-aide fixes.

Great team

An excellent place to work. Managers and staff really care about the residents. Managers always giving staff gift cards etc and pitched in at meal times ‘em which is the busiest time of the day. One negative is the union. CUPE is always critical and acrimonious and filing grievances. Management needs to stand up to the union there to make things better for everyone. They also really need a new building. Although it is nicely decorated and well cared for residents need their own rooms.

Not competitive in pay rates.

Complete burnout. Terrible air quality, very difficult to work when it’s too hot. Abuse of authority. Unrealistic expectations. Too much focus on what staff do wrong rather than what they do right

Good

It's good to work there, and I find enjoyed working there. The management is not amiable over there, and they support us a lot, and they will support

Where to Start...

Underpaid staff working in an outdated facility, in an us vs. them culture (union vs. casual employees), overseen by a disengaged management team who report to a highly disengaged senior executive team, who run a toxic, bully-centric workplace on a shoestring budget. Understaffing and a disorganized scheduling team leads to a total lack of work/life balance or ability to take time off. Widespread employee disengagement is most visible in the the lack of professionalism in frontline care givers. Morale is practically non-existent. There is virtually no opportunity for career progression or advancement and zero opportunity for on the job skills strengthening training. Conclusion: an overall very poor employer that sits near the bottom of long term care options in the HRM. An example of why the system needs to be overhauled to improve working conditions, wages and understaffing.

Pros

Gain experience to move to another employer

Everyone working for benefit of seniors

The team at Ocean View all seem to have the same goal as me, which is working to make sure our seniors have a meaningful and safe life as they age and need support. Everyone seems to do their part towards this goal, so it feels good to work here with the team.

Pros

Lots of paid holidays

Cons

No work from home option

Terrible environment

Clique, non supportive management, terrible work environment. Expectations far greater than what is described and fitting for the pay scale. Managers are terrible to deal with. Confidentiality is not adhered to. Union runs the show.

Long time staff are horrible to new staff

Current staff make new staff feel like you're garbage. They are nice to you to your face (kind of) then talk about you behind your back. Management is non existent in regards to this bullying.

Very poor management

This facility is very poorly managed, managers just come for pay and don’t care about residents and staff but very busy with making policies so that it can look good in health department eyes.

Non Supportive

Not a good place to work at, at all. Management is a joke. They feel like they can do whatever they want. Co workers are not nice either... they report .

High Turnover

The working staff (not management) are terrific, hard working people. I had heard before accepting a job there, that there is a very high turn over. Hard working, staff get fired all the time. I have never worked anywhere, that has such a high turnover rate. Managers certainly don't lose sleep over firing people, very disheartening to see so many coworkers (nursing, administrative & kitchen) let go. No job is secure at Oceanview.

Good place to work

Team work with staff always wonderful. Great environment. Love all the residents and the work the staff are doing to care for them. The staff are so compassionate with the residents.

Very heavy workload

LPN’s there are over worked. The work load is very heavy, med pass to 42 residents is a lot for one LPN. Their clinical leaders work around the building doing nothing to help the LPN’s . They are unable keep LPN’s there due to lack of collaraborative effort. Very poor management, always coming up different policy that is not achievable. Very low wage, the amount of work there is very unbelievable. People quit all the time, they hire new staff every month. They should ask the staff that are living why they are living and find a way to attract people to stay. Increase the LPN wages is $4.00 lower than anywhere else. Don’t wait because the good staffs will live.

Pros

Very close by

Cons

Low wage

A large and busy facility.

Some challenges with maintaining some management staff during my time there. That been said, I still felt supported by existing management staff. I would consider returning, in the future.

Friendly atmosphere

The people there are welcoming and nice. New experiences everyday, never the samething twice. Very encouraging and helpful management and other administration staff.

not bad

Very clean, fast paced and busy. Typical day would be getting residents ready for the day, feeding 3 meals in a 12 hour shift, providing personal care. etc. Mostly friendly staff, good management. Decorated nicely.

Loving fast paced environement

Just like any place of employment Oceanview has it's good and bad. Everything is only as good or bad as you make or let it be. Depending on your role your daily responsibility can vary. For some their day is specific to resident care to others it is resident care plus much much more.

Pros

Free Parking, bus stop at front of building

Cons

workplace politics, short staffing
