Changes to responsibilities regularly . No job security, and people are leaving or being let go all the time. Way too many meetings for upper management. Lots of talking but no action or problem solving. Unbelievably high staff turnover .

Unprofessional, unsafe and overall not a good place to work

Not a good place to work, I would definitely stay away, if you work here you’re risking your nursing license, very unprofessional, unorganized and disrespectful. Short staffed every day, no support from mangers. Very unsafe for staff and the residents.

Horrible, no vacation, no staff, terrible place to work, management is terrible, staff is the only reason to work there. The staff is friendly and welcoming but are struggling because of no vacations and burnout.

Worst Management/Managers

Management in every department was terrible. Could care less about their employees. I would never recommend Ocean View Manor for a place to work and i wouldn't put my worse enemy in that place as a resident.

Good place to work.i usually work in morning from 7 am to 7 pm . But sometimes I did evening and night shift when they ask me. I was available at all times. As it was my summer break.

Just..bad.

Nothing about working there is enjoyable. The residents are the only rays of sunshine and the poor things are miserable all the time. Building is old and decrepit, double rooms when there’s only enough room really for one resident.

Very stressful

To put it simple! If you are looking for a place to work where you are treated with respect and dignity, this is NOT a good option. CEO is disengaged and too arrogant to consider frontline and middle management recommendations to fix the horrible morale. The organization is in complete chaos and absolutely no follow through. Direction and any plans for improvement are never followed through or executed properly to see results of success. Proper orientation for most positions including Management is pretty much non existent and everyone is left to figure things out by trial and error. Front line staff are amazing but definitely burnt out with no relief in site for the near future. All band-aide fixes.

Great team

An excellent place to work. Managers and staff really care about the residents. Managers always giving staff gift cards etc and pitched in at meal times ‘em which is the busiest time of the day. One negative is the union. CUPE is always critical and acrimonious and filing grievances. Management needs to stand up to the union there to make things better for everyone. They also really need a new building. Although it is nicely decorated and well cared for residents need their own rooms.

Continuing Care Assistant (Former Employee) - Dartmouth, NS - 30 August 2021

Underpaid staff working in an outdated facility, in an us vs. them culture (union vs. casual employees), overseen by a disengaged management team who report to a highly disengaged senior executive team, who run a toxic, bully-centric workplace on a shoestring budget. Understaffing and a disorganized scheduling team leads to a total lack of work/life balance or ability to take time off. Widespread employee disengagement is most visible in the the lack of professionalism in frontline care givers. Morale is practically non-existent. There is virtually no opportunity for career progression or advancement and zero opportunity for on the job skills strengthening training. Conclusion: an overall very poor employer that sits near the bottom of long term care options in the HRM. An example of why the system needs to be overhauled to improve working conditions, wages and understaffing.

Everyone working for benefit of seniors

The team at Ocean View all seem to have the same goal as me, which is working to make sure our seniors have a meaningful and safe life as they age and need support. Everyone seems to do their part towards this goal, so it feels good to work here with the team.

Clique, non supportive management, terrible work environment. Expectations far greater than what is described and fitting for the pay scale. Managers are terrible to deal with. Confidentiality is not adhered to. Union runs the show.

Current staff make new staff feel like you're garbage. They are nice to you to your face (kind of) then talk about you behind your back. Management is non existent in regards to this bullying.

High Turnover

The working staff (not management) are terrific, hard working people. I had heard before accepting a job there, that there is a very high turn over. Hard working, staff get fired all the time. I have never worked anywhere, that has such a high turnover rate. Managers certainly don't lose sleep over firing people, very disheartening to see so many coworkers (nursing, administrative & kitchen) let go. No job is secure at Oceanview.

Good place to work

Team work with staff always wonderful. Great environment. Love all the residents and the work the staff are doing to care for them. The staff are so compassionate with the residents.
