Just a number.
Prefer not to say. (Former Employee) - Vanscoy, SK - 12 September 2020
You are just a number. They couldn't care less about you or your family. They are two faced about safety as well. They blame the worker in case of an accident.

Official response from Nutrien
14 January 2021We are disappointed to hear what you describe. We take safety seriously, reviewing incidents big and small to ensure our workforce goes home safe, every day. If you have a situation that you believe is contrary to our code of ethics, we encourage you to use the Compliance Hotline, an online and phone-based reporting tool managed by a third party, where employees can raise concerns, anonymously if desired.

Very good experience
Underground Mine Operator (Former Employee) - Vanscoy, SK - 12 June 2020
The only thing that kept me from continuing on was due to the merger, and the layoffs that were happening. I enjoyed the experience and would have prefer to continue or be in the industry in an up market.
Pros
The people
Cons
The market demand affecting the staff requirements.

Pay and benefits and time off to work is good balance.
Plant Operator/Hoist Operator (Current Employee) - Vanscoy, SK - 9 March 2020
when I first started at Vanscoy potash they made me feel like family and showed they really appreciated their employees I felt like family everyone new you by your name. And the Agrium and PCS potash merged. Now it has all changed they no longer treat their employees the same or show they care about them it’s disappointing when you give your life to a company and it ends up like that.
Pros
Shift work 12 hr shifts
Cons
The 24 hour off shift change from days to nights

ok place to work.
Instrumentation Mechanic (Current Employee) - Vanscoy, SK - 31 December 2019
ok place to work, no advancement available. Twenty four hour operation, work is only as stressful as you make it. Front line management is good, higher management is questionable.

laid off
Operator (Former Employee) - Vanscoy, SK - 26 December 2019
bleak future for potash, unfortunately not a stable job anymore near saskatoon. Guys to work with were pretty good. Supervisors willing to cut each others throats for advancement.

It is ok
Underground Miner (Current Employee) - Vanscoy, SK - 13 December 2019
It’s ok to work there. Lots of changes have happened. Lots of certainty. Moral issues. Need upper management changes. There is a little boys club that to go.

You are a number
underground operator (Former Employee) - Vanscoy, SK - 12 December 2019
You are just a number to them. The company makes hundreds of millions and despite this they will still let anyone go if it saves them a dollar. They don't really care about their employees just their bottom line. The management are Cutthroats and are in constant battle with unions. I gave the company two years of my life and despite making hundreds of millions of dollars they still laid off over a hundred employees claiming budget cuts

Poor management
Underground mine operator (Former Employee) - Vanscoy, SK - 31 October 2019
Management is a bunch of yes men. Only got their positions because they are buddies with upper management. They preach safety but then in the same breath say cost per tonne is too high and that’s all their priority is. Big company that only cares about dollars and their safety record shows

Jobs at Nutrien
in Vanscoy, SKBoys club!
Mine Operator (Former Employee) - Vanscoy, SK - 29 September 2019
Not safe and Scared of change. There is not really anything good to say. It has to be the most disrespectful place to work. More gossip and talk underground that makes it worse then high school. Bandage fixing is not my way of operating so this place is not for me.

Disaster waiting to happen
staff (Current Employee) - Vanscoy, SK - 12 February 2019
No real concern about the future from the leadership at this company. Reliability on a downhill slope, dismissed 70% of the safety group that struggled against managements desire to drive false metrics. The worst culture of any company I’ve ever worked for. Managers bounce from chair to chair, hacking and slashing as they go leaving workers and staff frustrated as they ladder climb to the security of the corporate office.
New philosophy is to run-to-failure (real statement from leaders) so things obviously come apart daily in unpredictable ways. Mines branch has them on a watch list for a reason. Many people stressed and spend time in therapy wondering how this can happen . The money is good but people are so unhappy that it drains you, toxic culture where even good people get polluted. Wow, is this really how the company wants culture?
Pros
Money
Cons
Stress, confusion, constant unnecessary layoffs of the wrong people.

Toxic Workplace
Operator (Current Employee) - Vanscoy, SK - 18 January 2019
Senior Leadership underground at this site doesn't seem to know what they are doing, shooting from the hip, lots of chaos. Which speaks to the under qualified people running the underground. Seems to be an "old boys club" that are making the decisions. Seeing a lot of good qualified staff and union people being escorted out the door. Site management seems to be focused on running an authoritarian management style. Manage with fear and intimidation in the name of safety seems to be their motto. Sure I believe this site cares about safety but uses it too much to ram other agendas through. This site pre-merger used to be a great site to work at, had a community feel to it. Now it is very corporate and cold, it doesn't matter how many years of service you have they don’t care, you are just a number in the grand scheme of things. I would recommend staying far away from this site for awhile, unless you like being intimidated by someone who doesn't have the qualifications or professionalism for the job they are in. Until the old boys club gets cleaned out, it isn’t going to get better.
Pros
Pay
Cons
Toxic Work Environment

Worst site ever
Management (Former Employee) - Vanscoy, SK - 4 January 2019
This used to be a good company before the merger but it really depends between site to site. The work environment is extremely toxic and HR will not help even when many of the workers go to them with concerns. Each department only look after themselves at the expense of the good of the site. Managers are not being held accountable for their own people's actions but protect them instead. Everyone likes to throw other people under the bus. Work attitude are toxic and with very low morale. A lot of things are done for short term gains. You report things to HR and they just brush you off like it is your problem. This site is just a mess, avoid if possible. If you are taking the job, be prepare to stop caring so you don't go crazy.
Pros
Great Pay
Cons
Garbage Culture

Since the merger the morale has been non existent
SAFETY SUPERVISOR (Former Employee) - Vanscoy, SK - 1 September 2018
As a safety supervisor my job was to support and guide workers into doing the safest job possible. There were times when a procedure would need to be changed therefore we would walk through the steps into making a job safer. The greatest fulfillment was watching the culture change and the workers having buy in to the new culture. The unfortunate part was the company holding job losses over all the workers heads. This lead to a unsafe environment as workers very seldom had there thoughts on there work.

Strong world leading fertilizer producer
Mine Operator (Current Employee) - Vanscoy, SK - 14 May 2018
Good place to work, very safety oriented. Some down sides including the low price of potash bringing layoffs to the industry and directly to the mine.
