Friendly and caring workplace with proper management.
Assisting residents in activities of daily living (Former Employee) - Scarborough, ON - 20 August 2022
My work experience as a Personal Support Worker with Nursing and Homemakers Incorporation was a great opportunity. I had the privilege to upgrade myself with in-service training which enhanced my knowledge and skills. l enjoyed my work with the organization and also being a part of their team. There were few challenges I encountered. Example: the Nursing home or the hospital I have been assigned for the shift is within a short period of notice. All the same it is a fun place to work.
Pros
Friendly and approachable organization.
Cons
Shift not regular

The staff at NHI are always professional when they call me.
R.N. general duty (Current Employee) - Toronto, ON - 18 October 2019
It is through this agency and others I have the good fortune to develop
my nursing skills and knowledge in the development of judgment for difficult clinical issues.
I am most grateful this company allows me to work for them.
However there are times when shifts are scarce and I need to put food on the table.

Personal Support Worker (Former Employee) - Toronto, ON - 10 July 2019
Staff are underpaid for their labour , shifts a flexible because you pick them but the chance of you actually fulfilling your shift is a 50/50 chance shifts are often cancelled
Pros
Lots of work shops / flexiblity
Cons
Low pay, no benefits, shifts cancelled

Income is low, but ability to choose shifts.
Personal Support Worker (Current Employee) - Toronto, ON - 12 February 2019
The staffing can be helpful, but shifts can be cancelled or changed within 1-2 hours notice, which can be inconvenient. With the minimum wage increase at the beginning of 2018, the pay for PSWs which was above minimum in 2017, is about minimum now, However you have the opportunity to choose to choose your own schedule, which makes this especially convenient as a side job or if you also attend school.
Pros
Flexible Schedule.
Cons
Low pay.

It was great!
Personal Support Worker (Current Employee) - Scarborough, ON - 5 October 2018
A typical day at work was great. I feel a sense of satisfaction and happiness in helping the elder citizens, I like doing it. Through this job, I have developed a lot of patience and have improved my punctuality as well. The hardest part of the job was lifting the patient, but I managed. The most enjoyable part was just doing the job in general, knowing that I was being helpful to them.

The hardest part of job
Personal Support Worker (Part-time) (Former Employee) - Toronto, ON - 14 April 2015
The hardest part of job I experienced with this company was I am being sent everywhere without any orientation. There are times that I was oriented to do an area in the a long term care that morning then when the local staff came in, she all of a sudden get all the clients I was oriented to do. It is kind of risky on my part since I am not familiar with the clients and their conditions so I will not be that effective with my care.
