Management Issues.
Electrician (Former Employee) - Fort Simpson, NT - 16 June 2020
Interview was fairly standard, after interview they flew me to the station town and gave me written offer. Manager told me that we would make enough on overtime and travel allowance that we would not need to touch our salary. Relocation was paid by employer. Housing provided for 6 months. All of the guys I encountered were great to work with I got to see all of the northern communities in our area. The management was the major issue. Manager would give all of the overtime and remote work to his buddy who is a contractor successfully eliminating any overtime employees would get. Living expenses are 2-3x more in the north and salary is only equal to pay in oil patch. Taxes are higher and take home for 2 weeks (80h) was around $2000.00 If manager was out of the picture it would be a good place to work as he was unapproachable and didn’t value employees. Housing would need to be subsidized like the RCMP and ENR offers for people to make any amount of money. Job is ideal for locals.
Pros
See the north
Cons
Management and cost of food and rent
