This is a very toxic environment to work at.Management and leadership is not supportive. Scheduling is not flexible. Manager refuse to provide references. I was happy to hand in my resignation.

Unproductive/Depressing

Absolute the worst place to work at when it comes to healthcare security. Best to move on to another hospital. No teamwork,No communication,No coordination,Disrespect at it's highest, Low pay,No career opportunities or advancement,Toxic leadership,Scheduling is one of the worst and could care less about your story other then you will work the shift regardless,

SHC was a great place

I worked at SHC for years. It was a magical place to work it was like working with family not just other employees. The staff really love the residents and would bend over backwards for them. Management needed improvement not in all areas. We had a high turnaround rate for DOCs and it caused a lot of issues as they all wanted things a certain way. Nursing managers needed to be in the floor more they are always in there office or not around when you red help. I really enjoyed my time with them. It’s a good place to work

Pros

Great co workers, good pay

Cons

Terrible DOC, management likes to just sit in office

Fun workplace, but poorly compensated

Nygh is a great place to work with amazing coworkers and a real team feeling. Unfortunately this organization prides itself on being fiscally responsible, at the expense of its staff.

Great people and community hospital

Good people to work with and a caring environment for its patients. Managers could do a better job at communicating with their staff but they often oversee a lot of staff, ie multiple programs.

It was a pleasure to work in such big Hospital. Great staff, good managment and clients.

Working at North York Hospital was really productive. I could say that it was a school that I learned a lot. As an anthropologist, for me, it was like a practical ethnographic work while getting things done.

Workplace environment

Really good place to work. All my colleague were super friendly and helpful. Never a dull time at work. Management could be better with the staff scheduling but other than that. The work environment is great!

Work can be easy, but co-workers can make it stressful

Job is EASY especially if you have experience working in the food industry, or other healthcare facilities (i.e. LTC, Retirement Homes). It is pretty easy to get a job as a dietetic attendant here, but once you get in : employees with seniority gossip so much and get other staff in trouble. No sense of camaraderie.

Pros

Pay is alright, you get Pension, Experience working in a hospital therefore good for resume

Cons

environment is not very welcoming, staff either micromanage you or ignore you like you dont exist

Don’t work here, if you are a nurse

Management is terrible. Occ health is worse. They keep nurses short staffed, burnt out, and disrespected. They think that giving staff a pizza will stop the complaints. Truly a terrible place to work. Had to quit for my mental health.

Security Needs Improvement

Extremely poorly manage security departmentPoor communication Poor teamwork Low pay rate Treated very bad Low morale No motivation Booking off to attend to your wife, and kids matter they simply don't care.No one seems to know what to do or how to manage security here. We have one of the highest injury rates when it comes to other hospitals.Contract security here is treated extremely badly and we are fired without an explanation. Best just avoid working at this hospital because it's simply not worth your health and safety.

Decent

An okay place to work, there's a lot of pressure in healthcare right now so they're almost always understaffed and underpaid. I don't feel like management cares about staff.

Excellent Place to work!

A genuinely great place to work.Everyone is kind, knowledgeable and passionate for their job, from management to downright healthcare workers. The amount of efforts the management puts in making people the best version of themselves is commendable.

Fast phase and stressful.

High workload and don’t get paid enough for the amount of work done. I felt that my work is not valued and that anyone is replaceable. Forced me to work during pregnancy despite doctors order.

Pros

I got to learn new skills.

Cons

Long hours, heavy workload

An overall great environment.

Been there since 2012 and it molds you to be a better interpersonal communicator. It is easy to expand to other departments within the organization if you decide to further your career. Wether it is a doctor, nurse, psw, technician etc.

Fun workplace with great people

Great place to launch your career and get into the field. Growth can be difficult unfortunately in clerical positions however, there are many people who have worked in positions or at the hospital for 15+ years which show stability in difficult times. NYGH is a community hospital which has created a workplace of connection and familiarity

Pros

Secure employment

Cons

Can work across all hours of the day

Security Inexperienced. Neglect HIGH

Security at North York General is run by inexperienced kids. Management here is so awful there is zero interaction. One of the most hostile and neglected Healthcare security in Toronto. No one can work together simply because we get fired by hospital management with one phone call. The majority of the security staff are young and inexperienced. All the senior staff has left or they were fired for doing their job. We've contracted security here so we are treated cheap, awful, and removed like it's a joke and at the end of the day it's normal at this Hospital. Stay away from this Hospital and wait for a new security company because now it's just kids making fun of patients and having fun with nurses and other security staff members.

Good people, could use more support staff

In my experience team was very supportive. Good educators. Good people. I did find that the hospital did not utilize enough PSWs in heavy units and this placed a lot of strain on nurses. Not an uncommon problem in Ontario hospitals.
