Dietary Aide (Former Employee) – Deep River, ON – 29 June 2016
This was my first job. I loved working in the old age home. I found a new respect and admiration for the elderly. I often found myself spending my 15 minute breaks sitting with the residents and either chatting with them or sharing my sketchbooks with them. I learned so much from the residents about life and death. Death was a fact of the job that I had to learn to deal with. Though they tell you not to get attached to the people living there, it's hard not to. Their stories and lives were so rich. I worked in the kitchen and got along well with the other kitchen staff. Most of the nurses and PSWs were great to work with, there were a few bad eggs but they really we not that bad. The hours at this job went so well with my high school schedule. The shifts were always 3pm-8pm (Sundays 4-8) which left me with plenty of time to socialize or work on homework after work.
