Don't do the math on what you are actually making with all the prep and duties that are demanded from you outside of paid hours. True that you may be asked last minute to teach a course and leap talli buildings, put on a cape and immediately
perform like Super Teacher. Even the most experienced teacher may find it is a challenging endeavour. Covid may have added to demands, as teachers recently have been tossed a 16 week course curriculum and expected to miraculously transform it all into an 8 week masterpiece on your own time and your own dime and most likely only a few days notice.... and master the LMS, technology with no training. The principal is really nice, and tmost staff seem to be as well, but the bottom line is that NOIC is at the mercy of head office in China and there is a lot of pressure to deliver, with wealthy demanding Chinesr parents ready to pounce.
That pressure and stress and accountability certainly falls on the back of the teacher and there is no time or opportunity to network with the other teachersb for help. If you are a teacher who has taught elsewhere, don't assume you will be ready for the demands. Ask questions and know all that is involved before diving in. You will be scolded and your pay defucted for any incident in which you may be late, or dismiss students early. You will not be paid for scheduled student breaks, providing mandatory feedback after each class to each student and expected to be 15 minutes early for class. Going the extra mile and above and beyond does not seem to be acknowledged or rewarded. Even if you are teaching only one credit course, it will consume your free time and online courses are on China time with no flexibility for accommodating your scheduling needs. NOIC has some great curriculum and concepts, but if it wants great teachers
The pace of work is slow. Sometimes there are courses to teach, other times there are not. NOIC is famous for leaving their staffing to the very last minute. That means they offer you a new course to teach with less than 2 week's notice. If you are trying to be employed with NOIC on a continuous, uninterrupted basis, you must have no other obligations that might conflict with the random schedule they offer.
