large work load and good work culture
Produce Worker (Former Employee) - New Brunswick - 24 October 2023
Indeed featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedA typical day involves meticulous stocking, assisting customers, and managing inventory. I learned the value of efficiency. Management is supportive, fostering a collaborative workplace culture. The hardest part is handling the high-paced demands, yet the satisfaction of helping customers makes it enjoyable.
Pros
lots of hours
Cons
on feet all day

Favouritism, poor management, hours consistently being cut.
All (Former Employee) - Morinville, AB - 29 November 2023
This is a good place if you want to make a friend, that’s about it…Chris & Tracey’s No Frills was not the ideal place to work. They take advantage of young people, give them great hours for the first couple weeks, then nothing. Nor do they value their employees what’s so ever. I worked there for 2 years and whenever I’d call in for emergency or sickness etc. i was left under the impression they did not believe me, and made to feel very guilty when something wasn’t under my control. Also be prepared to be on everyone’s good side because if the owners favourites do not like you that turns into no hours.
Pros
Great coworkers
Cons
Poor management

Jobs at No Frills
Overall it was okay, management had their favourites
Cashier (Former Employee) - Guelph, ON - 24 November 2023
My experience at no frills was alright. I was a part time cashier and was asking for 15-20 hours but only got 8 or 4 hours a week. This made it very frustrating because I was saving up for post secondary and was very difficult. The people are very nice, made lots of relationships and had a great time, although the management did have their favourites and decided to give them most of the hours leaving next to nothing for others. I would recommend this job for people with none or very little experience and is a great first job!
Pros
Discount
Cons
Not enough hours, Management

Incredibly stressful jobs with little to no recognition
Front End Supervisor/Cashier (Former Employee) - Lethbridge, AB - 14 October 2023
Tasks are manageable, I learned that management will lie to you about how you are doing. Management cared for themselves more than the mental/physical health of employees. Workplace culture very reminiscent of a high school. Hardest part of the job was working as hard as possible and continuously being talked about behind your back BY management. Most enjoyable part of the job were the other employees who had it just as bad as I did.
Pros
Made friends easily
Cons
Discriminated against employees with disabilities

Not enough mental health knowledge from the employer
N/A (Former Employee) - Toronto, ON - 2 October 2023
Very tight knit employees. Little cliques. And little to no knowledge of mental health and employees. Management was unprepared and unfair to employees. Positions given where they weren’t deserved and over all just not a fun place to work.
Pros
Laid back
Cons
Hot head management

Job sucks
Senior grocery clerk (Current Employee) - London, ON - 20 September 2023
Owners and managers do not care about their employees. Head office does not care about their employees. I would only work here if you're looking for a part time job just to get through school

Easy Hire
Grocery Clerk (Former Employee) - Sylvan Lake, AB - 11 September 2023
Management of specific location was unprofessional and alarming at times. Often taking anger out of many different employees. In my time working here I witnessed many different people quit on the spot in order to escape the hostile and quite frankly problematic work environment.
Pros
Easy Hire
Cons
Boring Shifts

Great first job, but that's all
Produce Clerk (Current Employee) - Brampton, ON - 11 September 2023
It's a great place to start when leaning work ethic a skills for life but after 6 months it goes stagnant and you learn almost nothing. Some managers are terrible and don't care about major issues unless its dragging them down too. Short staffed to the point where random clerks or cashiers have to push carts
Pros
hour worth of break for 8&1/2 hour shifts
Cons
What day's/hours you work are always random, raises are only given to those close close with the owner or gm

For a job as a student it was not terrible, but would never go back.
Cashier/Customer Service (Former Employee) - Londonderry, ON - 21 August 2023
For a job as a student it was not terrible. However, the culture and environment of the workplace was not positive or uplifting most days; but there was always a few staff and customers that made it bearable. The tasks and duties asked of certain staff were also drastically different for the same job title, some staff did nothing and got praised where others worked super hard and got looked past.
Pros
Short shifts
Cons
Unfair workloads

Clerk (Former Employee) - Spruce Grove, AB - 14 August 2023
tons of favouritism(ie. rules don’t apply to everyone), inconsistent hours, working to your breaking point and getting paid the bare minimum, very unfair when it comes to scheduling. only good thing, getting paid weekly

Ok Job overall
Produce Clerk (Current Employee) - St. Catharines, ON - 10 August 2023
Overall it is not a bad place to work. The work is not that tough, however some of the staff are unpleasant and very shady. The majority of staff though are drcent, hard working people.

Fun at first… Management and the owners were terrible.
Cashier (Former Employee) - Whitby, ON - 15 July 2023
The other cashiers were extremely nice and helpful to work with. Customers frequently would be rude and management would undermine me when i would reinstate “company policies”. If you have a life outside of work- especially an academic life- don’t work here because they dont care about you. Owners gaslit me into quitting because I couldn’t make it to a shift I had asked for off. Terrible experience.

Great workplace if you’re someone who enjoys talking to people on a daily basis.
Cashier (Former Employee) - Dartmouth, NS - 8 July 2023
A typical day at no frills was very tiring, standing on your feet for hours and only getting 15 minutes break. the management there is really bad, they don’t care about your mental health. and they don’t accept the fact that you have a life outside of your work. they’re poorly flexible on hours.
Pros
15 minutes break was paid
Cons
terrible managers.

Terrible condtions
Cashier/Customer Service (Former Employee) - Cashier/Customer Service - 30 June 2023
I’m working from home and my job said they aren’t cutting people but I’m miserable. I’ve been unhappy for a while and had just finished up a big project before the pandemic that was my “make it until then and you can leave” moment I had promised myself. Every day when I logged off at work, I’d tell myself it was OK to be miserable and cut myself slack about not giving 100%

Lacking compassion, understanding and empathy
Cash Office Supervisor/Cashier/Bakery stocker/Grocery stocker (Former Employee) - Beaumont, AB - 23 June 2023
Management is rude, plays favourites and the pay for what you’re asked to do is ridiculously low. 15$/hour to do managements work and paper work is not fair nor worth the effort. Don’t bother wasting your time here
Pros
Free Christmas party
Cons
Long hours, sucky management
