a shiny unicorn - but it isn't real
Leadership (Former Employee) - Calgary, AB - 10 May 2023
Indeed featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedIt sounds great - ex-Skip founders, series "C" funding, growing fast... but don't be fooled - all decisions are made by a handful of people. doesn't matter how much they've grown, there is no autonomy or even recognition of expertise. the founders know everything and won't consider anything they haven't thought of themselves. they want to hire smart people and then tell them how to do their jobs. No one cares about culture - wouldn't want the worker-bees to take their attention off of their work.
Pros
Fast-moving start-up - lots of opportunity to carve your own path.
Cons
sweatshop culture run by people with no real-world experience, Low pay with the promise of equity but that is getting less attractive as the company scales, No plan for the company to actually succeed - they just keep "pivoting" but nothing has worked yet

Disorganized & Toxic
Sales Rep (Former Employee) - Fairview Mall - 5 September 2023
They lie on the fly. Totally disorganized and extremely low pay. They have no idea what they're doing and the lies come from top level as the managements are liars. DO NOT TRUST THEM.
Pros
flexible hours
Cons
Everything, low pay, unreliable, dishonest

You will never get to move up until less your in the Calgary office
Customer Experience Specialist (Former Employee) - Winnipeg - 21 August 2023
You have to come in early if you log in a min late and you don't send in a late sheet, they will set a meeting up with you and the manager to talk about it. You have to start off at customer service even if you have the experience for somthing else , you still have to start at customer suvice till you get a blue check mark only than you can but you have to wait for an opening to the position and you'll have to be interviewed. But you won't get it if your in the winnipeg office. They never have any openings to move up. They will tell you it's nit true but it is. Winnipeg neo office is only a call center. This place is not worth it. Look them up and you'll see how bad they are. Don't even bother with this place.

Workaholic for a Manager
Sales Ambassador (Current Employee) - Ottawa, ON - 6 July 2023
Some may have already said this but it's supposed to be a chill job and meet people in order to tell them about the products. The manager is a workaholic and does not give any sort of sympathy to you if you have something going on in your life. Since you're on a contract, once you're not up to their standards they fire you like its nothing. Make you feel like a worthless human being. First two weeks was fine until you start seeing how greed changes people.

Good but with bad managers
Customer Experience Specialist (Current Employee) - Calgary, AB - 27 June 2023
The company has a good location and good benefits but the managers always keep promising things that they never keep. Besides, they sell like you can grow within the company but this never happens and once it does is because you're a previous friend from one of the managers

Misleading job title and description
Intern (Former Employee) - Calgary, AB - 9 May 2023
The team you work with are a great bunch of individuals and the energy in the office is always positive. However, the hiring team blatantly lied about hours and how flexible the position could be.

A potentially rocky ride
Marketing (Former Employee) - Calgary, AB - 11 April 2023
If you're considering working at Neo, be prepared for a leadership style that is completely domineering and hands-off. The head of my department was almost nonexistent, and their lack of structure or guidance made me question their actual role beyond attending "important" meetings and hiring. There was very little structure or leadership provided by them, and they remarkably had zero impact on the day-to-day of the team. It was as if they were only there to lend their title to the company hierarchy. The team operates with a "fend for yourself" mentality, where voicing concerns or proposing new ideas is met with little to no support. Instead of an empathetic response and an earnest desire to help, people will tell you to do things yourself, with little to no support from them. The company's culture is not conducive to open communication and teamwork, as employees are often left to work on their own without guidance or support. This can lead to a lack of cohesion and direction, which ultimately affects the quality of work produced. Salaries at Neo are much lower than comparable roles, as the compensation package includes equity options that are often given out unequally. Through talking with colleagues, I learned how little options some people have received in comparison to some of the managers and early hires, especially some people who have already left the company. The mind game of being told to work hard because "it will all pay off" by people who stand to earn far more in equity than you ever will is frustrating and demotivating. Professional development and annual reviews -
Pros
Free snacks. Some of your team members are great.
Cons
You are forced to install anti-virus on your own computer.

I would not recommend Neo as a place to work due to the lack of accountability, poor compensation, and invasive work policies.
Business Development (Current Employee) - Calgary, AB - 5 April 2023
As a current employee at Neo, I feel it's important to provide an honest review of the company's culture. While Neo appears impressive on the surface, it has significant issues that need to be addressed. The company's founders tend to hire and promote individuals who can be used as scapegoats for their poor decisions instead of taking accountability for their actions. This has resulted in a severe lack of accountability and control over employees, leading to a high turnover rate. Decision-making roles at Neo are often given to individuals who come from a lower-level position at another company or have worked at Skip the Dishes, and salary negotiation is limited. There's only sideways mobility here, and upward career progression is limited. While equity is offered in lieu of salary increases, equity dilutes, and it's becoming more and more watered down. Additionally, the pay at Neo is very low, and there's a lack of equality. The burn-and-turn culture at Neo is well-known in the community and documented by competitors, making it challenging to stay at the company for more than six months to a year. Remote work is not an option, and employees must bring their own devices to work with the requirement to install invasive antivirus software. In conclusion, as a current employee, I would not recommend Neo as a place to work due to the lack of accountability, poor compensation, and invasive work policies.
Pros
Neo can host some fun staff events with relatively good benefits.
Cons
Unrealistic work-life balance. If you don't answer or come into the office daily, you aren't a team player and are considered lazy. You're on call during the weekends.

Jobs at Neo Financial
Poorly managed, dehumanizing
Customer Experience Specialist (Former Employee) - Calgary, AB - 4 April 2023
Integral departments are overworked, understaffed, and undertrained. Processing times are absurdly slow. Changes are constant and impossible to stay on top of, but you must adapt or face punishment. Pay is above minimum wage but is still too low. Deceptive business practices, with the addition of arbitrary decisions in a desperate attempt to appear modern when their customer base is predominantly elderly. Didn't know who my manager was for 6 months. Exit interview was a survey emailed to me
Pros
Free coffee, good team leads, casual dress
Cons
Unorganized, poorly led, dehumanizing

Kinda worth to work, for experiences I guess
Customer Service Specialist (Former Employee) - Calgary, AB - 30 March 2023
Love to work with agents, but not the team lead. Need a lot of updates about the process and so on. Furthermore, the pay is kinda "okay" to what I felt, but ready to hear a lot of crazy thing from the customers

Challenging environment
Director (Former Employee) - Calgary, AB - 30 March 2023
No clear strategy; only very few senior leaders have inputs; expect to do only what you are told; 100% work in office is good for collaborating; people keep there heads down

Very difficult to move up in the company
Associate (Current Employee) - Calgary, AB - 19 March 2023
I really wouldn't recommend working at Neo Financial. If you're at an associate or lead level, there are very few opportunities to move to a management level. Salary is very low for the industry average, and many individuals have been asking for raises for 1+ years with no progress. There are no performance reviews, just constant reminders to continually do better, even though there are no clear goals or objectives. Management continuously asks employees to validate their salaries. It's a very difficult environment, and people are always stressed that they're going to get fired.
Pros
Headspace membership
Cons
No wage increases, very stressful

Toxic employer
Customer Experience Team Lead (Former Employee) - Winnipeg, MB - 27 February 2023
The environment looks to squeeze as much out of you as possible. The wages are average for the industry. Their actions do not match their words/promises; they do not value a healthy work/life balance. Only reason to work there is for you to use them for your own personal gain. Very “cult-like” and pushy to get you to buy and use their product. If you don’t, it’s assumed you don’t believe in the company and that you’re not invested in their success.
Pros
Average wage and benefits
Cons
Hypocritical management

Unorganized and pay was late
Sales Representative (Former Employee) - Edmonton - 18 January 2023
The training program was terrible they teach you nothing, the pay is given to you through the rewards on your credit card instead of a real bank account and was always late.

Avoid this company if you care about your mental health
Customer Experience Representative (Former Employee) - Calgary, AB - 20 December 2022
So a typical day at work looks like you are receiving calls one after another and have only 3 minutes to submit all the necessary after-call info, after that you have a new call. You will be highly micromanaged and told you had many washroom breaks in front of your coworkers. Typically you don't have time to reach the managers or submit a training during your work as you are supposed to take calls. So all the work-related issues ( submitting documents, training or trying to swap your shift) you need to do after. This is a busy time of the year and team leads are asking each rep individually to take overtime almost every day. Schedules are the main problem here, as you have the best schedule from 8-4:30 with Saturday and Sunday free and after a few weeks, you are receiving a messed up schedule you don't have control over with 6 working days in a row and 2 free days during the workweek. This is very mentally draining and feels unstable when you don't have any work routine, you don't even have your own desk:( as a full-timer.
Pros
it is real to get a promotion after a year of work
Cons
Tough schedules and extremely micromanaged environment, stressful workflow with calls only
