Job Culture
Demoralizing, pointlessly bureaucratic.
Program Advisor (Former Employee) –  1200 Montreal Road, Ottawa19 October 2019
- IRAP in NRC is a Govt Agency but NOT a Crown Corporation.
- So NO horizontal movement into any other Govt organizations to similar positions at an equivalent salary scale.
- Job title and salary DO NOT necessarily translate into an intriguing work life, let alone a promising career path.
- Workplace culture is poor, stressful and unproductive; consisting of repetitive tasks, incompetence and inefficiency.
- A lot of micromanagement and emphasis on documenting and inflating every minute steps taken in order 'to show off' the amount of work done.
- A large number of people at the later stages in their career, waiting to retire with no motivation to do something effective or cooperate to improve.
Pros
Salary, number of holidays.
Cons
Demoralizing, pointlessly bureaucratic, stressful, no career development.

Avoid at all cost!
Buyer (Former Employee) –  Halifax Regional Municipality, NS8 May 2018
Completely incompetent management, inept leadership, little communication within NRC and employee moral in the toilet. Too much politics within management and lack of empathy for employees. In short - a bureaucratic nightmare. AVOID if you want a stress free future.

Research Officer (Current Employee) –  Boucherville, QC16 March 2018
Good collegues, interesting projects. But lack of consistency regarding projects, i.e. too much projects at the same time and not
focused enough on long term development.

Poor management plagues this company
Administrator (Former Employee) –  Ottawa16 July 2014
- Lack of management
- Management constantly gossips
- Rules are bent for favorite employees
- They outright try to make things bad for employees they want to fire but can't, so they attempt to make people quit
- The Union will not help in matters because they do not want to "rock the boat with golden people"
