Typical government job.
Have you ever wanted to experience the quintessential government job and its associated stereotypes? Look no further! the NCC is the perfect employer for you. Management As an absolute bureaucratic mess, projects are ruled out at a snail's pace. Unsurprisingly, mismanagement accounts for millions of wasted taxpayer dollars each year. Employees Generally speaking, most employees are pleasant. However, there is a noticeable divide between English and French speaking employees. Francophones typically socialize with their French co-workers, while the outnumbered Anglophones stick together. NCC hires primarily people who speak French, which can be difficult for english staffers to connect with their francophone colleagues and departments (i.e. payroll) run by people who barely speak English. Occasionally (NOT all the time), my Anglo colleagues and I would experience some snobbiness for not speaking to workers in other departments in French. Workplace Culture The NCC's extremely relaxed work culture at 40 Elgin and other worksites (i.e. Gatineau Park, Rideau Hall) enables laziness in the workplace. Consequently, a toxic environment lingers as workers find every opportunity to complain about fellow NCC employees and outsourced contractors. When the workload is light, its easy to lose focus and complain about everything and anything. If this kind of negative workplace behaviour sounds discouraging, don't worry... there will be plenty of opportunities during work hours to reconcile with your colleagues.
