Food Runner (Former Employee) – Ottawa, ON – 9 January 2018
A typical day at Nate's Deli varied quite a bit but no matter what, it was always very busy during lunch hour. Especially between 11:30am-1:00pm because there were lots of government workers in the area. Then it would get less busy around 1:30pm and on most weekdays, it's pretty slow for the rest of the afternoon and occasionally will get busy again around suppertime. Friday nights were always busy like it would be for most restaurants in downtown Ottawa.
As a Food Runner at Nate's Deli, I felt very mistreated by the staff, mainly the men and the management team. I felt as if everyone would blame me for just about every mistake in the kitchen. I was very capable of handling the stress and fast pace of the restaurant, but the way I was treated by the staff and the uncertainty of my shifts were the main two reasons I left the company. Like most restaurants, they're very dependant on good weather to attract customers and on rainy days, I would often get sent home after only an hour or two when I was supposed to work a full 7-8 hour shift. It definitely had an affect on my pay checks and I needed to find a steadier job.
