They invest in your success with them

Working as a Service Technician for Naiad has helped me grow professionally. It was excellent customer service experience as well as practical repair experience fixing sprinkler systems. Naiad provided thorough training through online courses and practical hands-on experience. They are always open to questions if you're unsure about something because they support the ideology of doing quality work, and above all doing things safely. Naiad Irrigation supports their employees and understands that they are at the heart of their success.

Pros

good training, working outside

Cons

big learning curve

Competitive Pay, Benefits and Variety

Great place to work if you enjoy working outside. Although there are a few office positions, most jobs here have at least some portion of outdoor work. Pay is competitive, in some cases better than average for this industry and area. Benefits are included and pretty comprehensive, offered after 3-month probationary period. Workplace culture has an emphasis on customer service/customer satisfaction, and they do their best to provide adequate work/life balance by hiring enough staff and actively managing scheduling needs weeks/months in advance. Most challenging part of the outdoor positions are that they are physical. The work is manageable for most anyone, but employees should be mindful that outside of breaks and lunch the majority of the working day is doing physical work. The most enjoyable part of the outdoor positions is either the time spent outside/getting paid to exercise, or the feeling of satisfaction from completing a project, as you often get the opportunity to see how your work improves a landscape first hand. There is training available to advance if you choose. This could mean in-company training for difference positions, or industry training/certification programs that the company will pay for you to take so that you are better qualified. This includes safety/first aid courses too.Overall I would highly suggest working at Naiad to anyone, especially those who enjoy outdoor and physical labour type work.

Pros

Competitive wages, benefits

Cons

Outdoor work is not for everyone, hours can be longer during spring and fall (peak times)

Good Place If You Like Working Outside

Most of the jobs here are outdoor-based, which isn't for everyone. Upside is that you basically get paid to work out. Obviously if you do not want a physical job then this could be a problem. There are a few office positions here too.Pay is on par or slightly higher than similar places in Calgary area. Work is available year-round if you want it. Benefits start for full time employees after 3-month probation and cover quite a bit. They will train you if you don't have experience which is nice, and give you additional training for advancement if you are interested. Can be busy, in the spring and fall mostly. Those are peak times for turning on and turning off irrigation systems. This is nice for people who need money because it means overtime pay is available. Jobs are managed by an app on your phone and most people get a company phone which is nice. Managers and supervisors are promoted from the departments they work in, so they know the job you are doing and can help if you have problems as they have experience. Also nice because expectations are more realistic when managers actually know the job.People are nice. Not really a lot of issues, people just want to get their work done. Safety is a big thing, there are monthly meetings as well as daily assessments and toolbox meetings. They have a list of instructions for how to do every job that's on an app so you have it. Nice to be able to check back if you haven't done something in a while.Best part of the job for me is that the job changes a bit depending on time of year. Some jobs are the same every day and you get -

A Great Company!

Naiad is the most organized company I've ever worked for. Their safety program is incredible, I've never felt unsafe at work. The management genuinely cares about you, you're not just a # to them. Coworkers are all great and easy to get along with. Just an overall great company to work for!

Pros

Company Truck, Benefits, Safety Program, Opportunities to advance throughout the company

Great Company with awesome employees

This is really great place to work. It is a very organized company with a helpful management team. The company cares about their employees safety and opinions.

Pros

Poor managment

The general manager has a huge ego with little to no human resource training or people skills. This is a huge problem due to the fact that its a small company with no HR department for employees. The general manager stated multiple times that it is basically his way or the highway. The owner of the company is never really around unless its to exercise in the warehouse. Give this place a pass.

Pros

Company car

Cons

To many to list

Offers plenty of chances to learn

A typical day at naiad varies depending on the work that’s available, the upside is there’s usually work that can be found for you to do. During the spring/summer work focuses mainly on repairs, installations, and landscape, whereas fall/winter work is mostly blowouts and snow removal. Management works to find the area that your best suited for and helps when transitioning between areas of work.

Pros

Get to work outside, management puts safety first

Cons

Occasionally long hours

Hard Work Pays Off!

This job can be a lot of work. With that being said, you generally end up getting in better shape, making some money, and getting opportunities for advancement along the way. I have never worked somewhere that has such an appreciation for drive and commitment, and anyone I've seen that is willing to put in the effort has definitely been recognized for it. The safety program is extensive compared to a lot of other places I have worked, with regularly scheduled safety meetings, inspections and training, and reporting and follow up for incidents and near misses to help improve safety in the future. Management do their best to accommodate employee needs for appointments and vacation time, and work hard to train employees on best work practices to make sure work gets done safely and efficiently. Obviously it is a balancing act, but they try to make it work for everyone. I would say the hardest part of the job is that it can be a lot of work. It is a physical job, which is not for everyone, and sometimes you do need to work longer than the standard 8-hour day. What is nice though is that if you enjoy working outside, and like to see first hand results from the work that you do, you will love the feeling of satisfaction you get at the end of the day when the job is complete. Overall I would definitely recommend working here if you like working outside, enjoy physical work, value a safety-oriented company culture, and don't mind working long hours when needed.

Pros

Competitive wage, benefits, company vehicle and phone

Cons

Hours may not be for everyone

Irrigation

Family run business. Hires workers from Mexico but no one in the office bothers to learn Spanish. Accidents would happen on a regular basis due to poor communication. If you are not part of the family you wont last long.
