Front Desk Attendant (Former Employee) – Whitby, ON – 6 April 2013
A typical day at work: You gotta deal with hookers, drug addicts, bums, crazies... etc! you also have all the in betweens, every walk of life, check them in take their money, answer their questions and "sell" them the product (the room) with yoru answers
What i Learned was don't trust people at their words.
Management was good chain wide but some locations are lacking and/or are unioned. Doesn't work out for new hires, you will have the WORST POSSIBLE SHIFTS
You have barely any ressources to work with either! Training is NON-EXISTENT literally thrown in the ocean and told to swim... Other then software, they teach you the software, but there's no coaching on how to handle people or situations which is 98% of the job.
Co-workers can be fun, you dont see them much, only at shift changes, unless your housekeeping in which case you work individually in your assigned rooms
The hardest part of the job is not running out of the place. It gets very boring, very repetetive and can be truly challanging dealing with all the character types that walk in.
the most enjoyable part of the job is just that though, the guests that walk in, getting to know them, hearing their stories, opinions, rants, sob stories and just about anything...Trust me you will hear about EVERYTHING in peoples lives!
slow pace job during off seasons, reasonable salary with benefits
lack of flexibility on management side, lack of proper training is huge, lack of communication when deciding on how to proceed with routine work
