Okay environment
Customer Service Representative (Former Employee) - Calgary, AB - 3 January 2023
It was okay while it lasted. Pay is not great. Nice office set up typical of a fintech company. Colleagues were okay most of the time. Long hours etc.

Insights into Morgan Stanley
What people like

- Inclusive work environment
- Support from manager
Supportive team mates. Very low paying job compared to the job responsibilities
Customer Service Representative (Former Employee) - Calgary, AB - 26 April 2022
Good for a start. Managers are supportive when they have not been stressed out themselves. The job title says customer service to justify the very low pay, but you do a whole lot more than the typical customer service/call center duties. It's an insane amount of financial services work load that goes on here, you just aren't in a "brick and mortar store front". There is no clear path if you are looking to change teams and apply to internal roles. There's some internal bureaucracy when looking to leave the team. The work environment goes beyond fast paced and generally very stressful and leaves you drained at the end of your shift. They try to poach you to take the FINRA examination, but the salary for the added stress is almost nothing compared to the industry.
Pros
Supportive team mates willing to help you be a better version of yourself, Managers are supportive when they have not been stressed out, The customer service department is at least new immigrant friendly when hiring new intakes
Cons
Other departments look down on you, Archaic processes that make your job even more stressful, The pay is very very low compared to the kind of job required of you, micromanaging

Poor Management
Analyst (Current Employee) - Calgary, AB - 18 November 2021
Bad management, a lot of nepotism a d favouritism. If you’re not white, you won’t get ahead. Poor leadership, some staff not qualified to even open a door, but still there as they play the kissing-up game.
Pros
Location, downtown core
Cons
Management, excessive overtime

Great Culture
SOFTWARE DEVELOPER (Current Employee) - Calgary, AB - 19 October 2021
I love working here. There is great culture, work-life balance and lots of learning opportunities. This is a great place to start your career as a software developer. The work does get boring and monotonous depending on what team you are on and what part of the codebase you work on.
Pros
Rrsp, work-life balance, learning opportunities
Cons
Monolithic codebase

Mid management unprofessional , unskilled & incompetent .
Senior Plan Specialist (Former Employee) - Calgary, AB - 10 February 2020
Most recent management change over in the last 1-2 years has been awful.
Unprofessional and inept mid management makes doing your job extremely hard and stressful .

High paced, work hard play hard mentality
Relationship Manager (Former Employee) - Calgary, AB - 21 November 2019
I enjoyed my time with the company, plenty of advancement opportunity in the growing business. It is an open concept office with plenty of collaboration amongst the different departments to ensure client satisfaction remains high. Now being part of the Morgan Stanley Family will only mean bigger and better things going forward, if you can get in the door you won't regret it.

Associate (Current Employee) - Calgary, AB - 15 October 2019
Shareworks is terrific place to start your career! Management has lofty expectations of its employees but is supportive and great about personal development. Colleagues are also all very friendly and helpful. Lots of room for advancement too.

Great place to work with amazing culture!
Client Services Manager (Current Employee) - Calgary, AB - 3 October 2019
Shareworks by Morgan Stanley is a fun, fast paced environment where Management has always been incredibly supportive and encouraging in regards to career growth within the company. The workplace culture is unlike anything I have experienced at any company - the people are amazing and the executive team is incredibly approachable and friendly. The open office environment is fun and encourages cross-team interaction that offers a very welcoming feel. Would definitely encourage my friends to work here :)

Fun, flexible and colloborative work environment with tons of smart people.
Systems Engineer (Current Employee) - Calgary - 3 October 2019
Shareworks is scaling up and there is a mountain of legacy bugs, technical debt, bad design decisions, and access/knowledge issues that are making it a challenge to meet the ever increasing business demand on the system.
Overall the acquisition has been very positive for my group. We have been able to leverage the extra capital to expand teams and get new hardware and licenses. Projects and Changes have always moved at a fast pace but now things are moving even faster and getting more complicated with more oversight but these are good problems to have in my opinion.
Pros
Power to control technological decisions. Openess to new ideas
Cons
Pace is relentless and hours can be long for Dev-Ops roles

I love working for Shareworks by Morgan Stanley. The job culture is fun, open, collaborative and inclusive - I truly enjoy coming in to work every day. They offer great work-life balance with work that challenges you but does not overwhelm. My managers are easy to talk to, always willing to go the extra mile to teach and help out. I absolutely recommend that any of my friends and family apply for a position here.
Pros

Team Lead, Transaction and Stock Plan Specialist (Former Employee) - Calgary, AB - 18 August 2019
I believe this place is great to start a career and learn about Share Purchase plans. It gives you professional growth and learning but only at some point, There is no much place to grow in the company although now is part of Morgan Stanley and new opportunities may show up.

Fun workplace and great team work.
Client Services Manager (Current Employee) - Calgary, AB - 18 August 2019
Its a great place to work for a few years, its fun and team work means everything there, unfortunately not so many options for vertical growth. If you would like to grow the inly options are to move to a new department.

Good job security but lack of respect
Java Developer (Former Employee) - Calgary - 12 March 2018
The company is great in terms of job security and benefits. They have stock options as well as profit sharing plans for their employees.
The subject is boring and the technology is quite outdated. Developers are asked to do business analyst's job by writing design documents and gathering requirements.
Their review process is terrible and developers contribute a lot wasn't valued and respected. There is also lack of management and the management group is very cliquey.
Pros
Job Security, Benefit
Cons
Outdated technology, culture and management

Fun work place, terrible management
Relationship Manager (Former Employee) - Calgary, AB - 17 February 2018
Salary does not match work expectations. i was there for 3 years and only made 5K more than when I first began. When considering the inflation in Calgary, it was not enough.
