Terrible company
General Warehouse Associate (Former Employee) - Barrie, ON - 29 May 2023
Indeed featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedModern was a great company to work for in the beginning. You are not paid Highly for the job that you were doing. They try to justify your benefit plan and the fact that you do not have to pay into it as a reason of having a lower wage. I would much rather pay into my benefits and make more money than what they offered. I worked for the company for a very long time and then after becoming ill they decided to let me go and came up with a ridiculous reason. I do not recommend this company to anyone as they just discarded me as a piece of waste instead of backing me up after becoming ill. They also disclose much of my personal information to fellow employees after I left the company.
Pros
Barbecue lunch at stat holidays
Cons
Too many to list

Good Workplace
Floor Worker (Former Employee) - Barrie, ON - 13 October 2023
Worked here for 3 years - while I disagree with how laissez-faire they have been with Covid recently, they do provide masks & sanitization options for their employees. Sick day & mental health day coverage is decent (and they were very kind with my health situations). Bus availability is a bit awkward with the hours provided, but it is manageable. If you put in the work, they will keep you working. Overall, a very good work environment, and I enjoyed working here.

Insights into MODERN SALES CO-OP
What people like
- Fair pay for job
- Ability to meet personal goals
Areas for improvement
- Supportive environment
- Sense of belonging
- Trust in colleagues
People coming and going w/poor work ethic
Distribution Associate (Current Employee) - Langley, BC - 12 May 2022
Lots of new hires who do the bare minimum and dont follow instructions. Always correcting others mistakes and/or laziness. Lots of employees socializing during work time impeding those who are legitimately trying to work. 1/12 people doing 90% of the work. Regular building meetings which most employees ignore what's said. Frustrating and draining to employees who are actually attempting to do well.

Needs improvement
Warehouse Associate (Former Employee) - Barrie, ON - 26 April 2022
Overall I myself personally had a great experience working for this company the management team alway treated me with the upmost respect. However I do believe they need to take a real hard look at there permanent long term employees who are constantly bashing the company’s name and that has absolutely ruined the working environment making it very hard for new employees to adjust. There are also a lot of two faced asso’s in other words they are very jealous when someone new gets offered advancements they don’t qualify for. The salary isn’t great considering 95% of the work is very heavy lifting and non stop walking.Lots of overtime if you like to work
Pros
Great Management Team
Cons
Poor working environment

Not a good place to work!!!!
Warehouse Worker (Former Employee) - Barrie, ON - 3 September 2021
Reason 1. Terrible management 2. Continuous cycle of staff (people come and go on a regular basis) 3. Salary is not enough for a person to survive on their own. Increases are VERY SMALL. 4. No way to move up or do better in the company 5. Pushed to pick orders for 8 hours 6. NO TALKING!!! 7. Team leads are miserable all the time - making it uncomfortable and difficult to work for them.
Pros
Cant think of any
Cons
Low wages, toxic work environment, supervisors are always in a bad mood

Do not work here.
Warehouse associate (Former Employee) - Barrie, ON - 12 August 2020
Do not work here!! This company will treat you like garbage. Everyone quits working there.
Run out the door like everyone else does after one day or just a half of a day of working there !!
Pros
The double standards and favouritism may work out in your favour.
Cons
Company should be going out of business soon.

No nonsense, supportive, respectful
Purchasing Support - Inventory Assistant (Former Employee) - Barrie, ON - 31 January 2020
Friendly management and staff that made me feel welcome and at ease right from the start. Excellent training in all aspects of learning the job as well as orienting me with company procedures and processes. Great salary.
First job I ever worked at that wasn't overrun with gossip. Management showed employee appreciation with BBQ's in the summer and monthly birthday cakes for all who wish to participate, along with costume and pumpkin carving at Halloween.

Fast paced, not stressful & enjoyable.
Warehouse Associate (Current Employee) - Barrie, ON - 30 November 2019
8.5 hour work days. Half hour lunch & two 15 minute breaks per shift. Vacation days increase upon completing anniversary levels (5 years, 10 years....). You can advance in the company if you have the skills and a positive work ethic. Many warehouse associates have advanced. As with any job, you get what you put into it. Health benefit package is great. $95 reimbursement for annual safety footwear purchase. 6 personal (sick) days given. $100 net incentive offered for each personal day not taken in a year. Christmas bonus, dependant on years of service, given in December. Free BBQ lunch given on each long weekend in the summer months. Free birthday cake each month to celebrate employee birthdays. Free Christmas party in December with dinner, cocktails, music & dancing, prizes & taxi there and back. 50/50 draw every 2 weeks offered by social committee. Employees can purchase any products the company carries at exceptional discounts.
Busy times are generally spring and fall and can be challenging. Most of the people are enjoyable to work with. Drama does happen but is minimal and not tolerated. Management are accessible and easy to talk to.

Brutal
Warehouse Associate (Former Employee) - Barrie, ON - 19 August 2019
Low pay, no training, terrible management. There's no job security or advancement at this place. I watched multiple employees excel at their jobs, or break records regarding work scores be denied annual wage increases, I've seen people be fired immediately after parental leave. I've watched people with a work place injury do everything they can to recover to be terminated when they're deemed fit to work.
Pros
They follow the law and pay minimum wage
Cons
This section isn't large enough

Terrible place to work
Warehouse Worker (Former Employee) - Barrie, ON - 19 March 2019
Terrible place to work, everybody around you is miserable but can you blame them because there doing a extremely repetitive job, days are very long and boring, theres rude staff all over and nobody bothers to ask who you even are when you start working there. Cant throw everyone under the bus because there was a small few of very nice people but majority were rude misreable and disrespectful.

Run
Warehouse Worker (Former Employee) - Barrie, ON - 6 March 2019
Don’t go near this place it is horribly mismanaged. Management is clueless and not helpful at all. Can’t honestly say it’s same at all DC’s but where I was you have to figure everything out on your own and then get yelled at if it’s wrong. And people always pass the buck never own up to their mistakes.
Pros
Can’t think of any
Cons
Everything

Misguided management, no where to go, low wages.
Warehouse Associate (Current Employee) - Barrie, ON - 27 February 2018
Typical warehouse work, stocking, picking, shipping, etc. Main issue being that the wages are low for warehouse work, especially considering the majority of product in the place is automotive parts that are rather large and heavy. No pay increase for learning new departments or getting machinery licensing. Management is constantly changing rules and guidelines for different departments, and the changes get lost along the lines of communication from supervisors to the floor, causing lots of confusion.
Feel very under valued and definitely not respected at work. Morale is always low and full time employees that have been there for a few years are now leaving due to the direction of the company. Lots and lots of temps come and go and seem to be replacing direct hire jobs.
The only benefit with this place is you get 6 paid sick days a year and you have every weekend off.
