Technician (Former Employee) – Ontario – 3 October 2018
MTI was an excellent income supplement a few years ago. Today the technicians are constantly in the dark. constant work policy changes with no communication with the employees, So we have no idea whats coming or whats not and sometimes we don't understand our own pay structure. The feeling among local employees is there is not much time left. They seem to be hiring much more than they need to ensure someone will accept the jobs however everyone is waiting at home with 1 job per week (or less) on their calendar. Pay per hour is good, but you might only get 1 hour per week or even per month. Travel used to be make up for the lack of work as they paid per km. however they now make you go pick up a rental car and transfer all your tools and materials on your own time so they only have to pay minimum wage for the travel. (sometime you will drive 3 hours for a 1 hour job). which is especially frustrating for those of us who own service vans for this type of work. You never know who you have to call for anything because the turnover appears to be out of control. Its ok if you're semi retired or just looking for something to do but the outlook is incredibly unstable and not a reliable source of income.
