EASY job with horrible management

Indeed featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
Pay is comparable to other weed shops in town, the store has a nice design / atmosphere, job is super easy, but the hours of operation (10am - 6pm) mean limited shifts, the majority of which you'll likely be working solo (after "training"). The weed is overpriced so be prepared to deal with a decent amount of angry customers. Also- bring a book to your shifts- the are often HOURS between customers....

Pros

The "manager" I suffered under has been fired, so *maybe* things have improved??

Cons

It won't be enough $$$ to live on so you better have a second job lined up...

Clueless Corporate Running Company into The Ground

No proper training or guidance from head office, regional leads that kept the company afloat all demoted into store level positions. Stores closing, manager positions eliminated leaving poorly paid assistant managers to do all the work. But hey there are free snacks

Great place to work, has its challenges.

Great place to learn, grow and expand your passion for cannabis. Retail can always be a tough game with unpredictable sales background like weed. It's a young industry with lots of growing pains. When you hang in, the job is cozy and fun. The big reward comes from your regular customer you build relationships with. Upper management is always available to troubleshoot situation. They are there to lend a hand and brainstorm.

Toxic workplace

You have to be “yes man”. Once you set boundaries, or prioritize your education, you’re no longer of value. Which means hours cut, and treated like you don’t exist. Any “rules” they “live by” are only placed harshly upon those they dislike, as a tool to push someone out. Flexibility, compassion, and empathetic responses are saved for those “yes men”.Management and CEO’s aren’t training anyone properly. Which trickles down to an immense amount of work being placed upon Budtender’s and the very few Manager’s doing their actual role. I love being a leader, but not at the expense of having all my ideas mined from me, then to be re-sold and used on me, without any acknowledgment that the idea’s were mine to begin with. Incredibly stressful environment disguised by group-clique-mentality, that’ll kick you out for not conforming. No work life balance. Set boundaries, and lose hours, is how this company treated me.

Pros

the few sweet/kind customers

Cons

the therapy I’ve been through because of this job

Terrible management

Completely unorganized with zero help from any managment/higher-ups. If you have an issue and wish to report it to HR you will be ghosted and ignored. Management and corporate are all in each other's pockets protecting themselves. If they don't like you, or you are anything other than a persistent "yes man", you will get your hours cut and coerced into quitting. Everything is super expensive because they prioritize selling their overpriced merch over actual product (which is also overpriced) and people will complain about this to you constantly. Their main system for creating orders is super buggy and tedious (the app will slow down the tablet to a snails pace, especially if you try and refresh the page or open a product info page) which makes your job as a budtender extremely difficult since you are forced to put orders through the tablet before you can retrieve the product to cash someone out. As you can imagine, waiting for the tablet to start responding while dealing with more than one customer at a time is impossible and leads to people leaving the store.

Pros

you get a measly employee discount which almost takes off the tax

Cons

clueless managment, disorganized corporate, malicious HR and terrible hours

Terrible company

Shady upper management doesn’t even begin to describe what’s going on with this company. Most stores will hire staff and fire them before their probation period. And even if you are lucky enough to be promoted, they will throw you under the bus for their bottom line. You will not have a career here: it is a JOB, and a terrible one at that.

Fun place. Shady upper management

You can only be dangled a carrot so many times before you just give up trying. District Managers don’t care for you - but only their bottom lines. When you leave the store, they just talk negatively behind your back. They’re very two faced and are good at one thing - typing on a keyboard while working from home, all while they expect you to work your 44 hours a week and be on call for whatever may occur.

Fun place to work!

Most of the time it's a fun work day but with some bumps along the road such as grumpy customers and occasionally managers. The rate of pay could be better especially when you are doing sales associate and supervisor split. Sometimes you get free products or swag for educational purposes which is always great! I've learned a lot about the industry since being employed by Miss Jones and they offer cool contests and incentives to sell. If you are confident in your ability to sell and speak to people you will likely enjoy your job. Overall, it's a great place to work but I wouldn't expect to advance as there isn't much opportunity.

Pros

Free swag and product, contests, challenges

Cons

Unfair wages, top down management style

Store level it's great; corporate needs improvement

I was lucky to have great managers while I was working there, but above my store manager there was a severe lack of communication and co-operation.

Work your but off for nothing

No job security. Company is crumbling behind the scenes. Wouldn't be surprised if they go bankrupt in the next year. Overall, the company is in its baby stage and hasn't figured out which way is up and down. They treat employees as disposable numbers.

Pros

Manager was awesome

Cons

No Job Security

Bad place to work

Stay away from this company! Management is two-faced, catty and have no idea what they are doing. Their product is way over priced (shop around) and customers complain about it… a lot.

Good for students. Horrible for career

Like most cannabis shops, many face the issue of trying to make a career out of this passion however this creates and unspoken competitive nature. As a normal budtender your job and pay will be easy. As you rise you will find that upper management care very little and give empty promises. All though flexible hours are claimed, it is still retail. It will be tooth and nail when wanting days off and can cost future opportunities. Make no mistake. This is a great place to work and stepping stone, however it is still retail. With all the burdens that come with it.
