People make the place
General Labourer (Former Employee) - North Bay, ON - 30 June 2022
The co-workers are pretty much the only upside to working there. Job is dirty, hard on the body and you feel like just a number to management. However like I said the employees are good people and do make the long days a little easier.

mindless trainers
Garbage Collector (Former Employee) - hillsdale - 30 May 2022
Trainers at the hillsdale yard are complete high school children.. If you don't stroke their ego and make them feel like they are the best in the world, they'll undermine your abilities and likely have you fired. 9/10 men on that yard would be fired if it wasn't automated due to laziness and bad work ethics
Pros
Friday's off.
Cons
childish management

Fast Paced/ Physical, Customer Service Driving Job.
DZ Collection Driver (Current Employee) - Markham, ON - 29 May 2022
A typical day at work here is showing up at 5:45-6am doing getting your assigned route for the day and heading out to inspect your truck before starting your day. You can service as many as 1200 houses a day as a driver/loader it can very physically and mentally demanding since you're constantly paying attention to your surroundings and other vehicles on the road, while also maintaining awareness of your helper/partner on the rear of the truck When you're outside collecting whether it be yard waste, garbage or recycling you can deal with all kinds of elements from extreme heat to freezing temperatures you don't stop for weather you just drive accordingly. It can be heavy and extremely exhausting your first couple of weeks but you adapt. Management at times depending on the location can leave a lot to be desired whether it be lacking interpersonal skills, or compassion but they also have a job to do which can be high stress at times the fact of the matter is they are not there to be your friend all the time if at all. Just keep your head down, do the job to the best of your ability you'll be fine. Work place culture is also location dependent but for the most part you work with a lot of great guys who will do their best to guide you and help you out. The hardest part of the job is the consistent lifting of heavy bags and bins 50lbs+ repeatedly every house. The most enjoyable part is the pay at the end of the two week period. And occasionally positive interaction and conversations with residents.
Pros
Wages, Benefits, Experience
Cons
Lack of work life balance, Long Days 12+ hours, Politics

No hours and lots of lies
Automated Sideloader (Former Employee) - Hillsdale, ON - 21 May 2022
The guys are making less than 40 hours a week, a lot of the good workers seem to be struggling to survive. We were promised that’d they top up the hours but that got taken away. Seems like they can fire anyone that doesn’t fit their agenda. The equipment is good, couple of the supervisors are good but overall you have to watch your back and not trust anyone, people will throw you under the bus(guessing a job secruity tactic). Everything seemed too good to be true when the Simcoe contract started lots of promises like guaranteed overtime for Friday work guaranteed 40 hours a week all lies. Miller Waste is very anti-union so don’t ever mention the union or else you’ll be fired.

Fun job with good pay and benefits
Garbage Collector (Current Employee) - Markham, ON - 13 May 2022
Fun job, it keeps you in shape. Great pay for what it is. Just you and the driver on the truck, and you get paid during lunch (eat out mostly but sometimes you pack a lunch). This job is physical, you ride on the back of the truck all day and lift upwards of 10000lbs of garbage per day, but it keeps you fit. Go to work early and go home tired and willing to sleep. hardest part is sometimes the garbage never ends and having to do it in all weather conditions best part is waking up early, job keeps you fit and meeting ppl
Pros
fun job, good salary and get to eat out most of the time. easy to get hired for it
Cons
weather, some days it feels like it never ends

Good security if you have a good work ethic
Driver (Former Employee) - Etobicoke, ON - 19 March 2022
Everyone works until all the jobs are done for the day but sometimes that means working longer because others decided to take it easy. Good overtime pay during busy months but the work is physical and repetitive.
Pros
Overtime, 4 day week, good benefits
Cons
Some days are long, poor culture

Worked to death
Driver / Laborer/ Operater (Former Employee) - Markham, ON - 6 March 2022
Very underpaid for the work. You are leaned on constantly to clean up after others with no appreciation. Very long days. The benefits are not worth the effort and wear on your body. Management is full of empty promises.

WAS a good place to work
Equipment Operator (Current Employee) - Ontario - 18 February 2022
Hr department is terrible Soooo many chiefs. Red tape is the worst I've seen. After 14 yrs with the company it's gone from Decent to over Managed. Corporate basically makes up positions for people they like. Company lunches? Sure if your at head office. But I always enjoy my xmas turkey.
Pros
Waste industry = guaranteed work
Cons
50 chief's. 10 workers

Good place with good people
Driver (Current Employee) - Etobicoke, ON - 8 February 2022
Good place to work with realistic expectations. Equipment is older than it looks but us cared for. Managers are good but my supervisor was a bully after being fired from a competitor and then came back to work here again.
Pros
Nice coworkers
Cons
One bad supervisor in the d1 contract.

Gross, have respiratory issues since working here.
Lead Hand/Heavy Equipment Operator (Current Employee) - Pickering, ON - 12 January 2022
I do not recommend working here. It's stressful, exhausting and sometimes they require you to skip your breaks. Never doing 1 thing, expectation to be everywhere at once.
Cons
Long hours, stressful, really low pay for the job you do, nobody cares.

Exhausting and physically demanding. Very high worker turnover
Driver/Loader (Former Employee) - Burlington, ON - 11 January 2022
This is an incredibly hard job. It's both physically and mentally demanding and in my opinion, not worth the wage offered. There are incentive bonuses but you need to kill yourself to get them. Everything has the potential to get you fired. Following the rules could lead to termination. Not following the rules is the staple of the industry and what is expected, however if you get caught due to semantics, you will also get fired. 10 hour days are the average however the average is more like 12-13. The management structure seems very broken and inexperienced. If you are desperate and capable of pushing yourself to the point you might injure yourself, then this will be a good opportunity. If you have any relevant experience though, I would keep the job hunt going.
Pros
Good people to work with
Cons
Extremely physically demanding and high probability of injury.
