Very casual, stress free workplace

Enjoyed this job very much. Management cares about its employees, everyone in each department works together and helps each other out. Unionized job .

Toxic and draining

What is the best part of working at the company? Some coworkers were amazing and very understanding. What is the most stressful part about working at the company?Management and seniors. They do not support new employees for the months I've worked there I was always drained by the work load and they would schedule me on the busiest days sometimes with no weekends off at all. What is the work environment and culture like at the company?Very unsupportive and toxic. Not only you're not compensated fairly for doing the job of 3 people but they also overwork new employees as they don't want to work around a fair schedule for everyone

Productive

I make the salads there and find it very interesting. Sometimes in a shift I make up to seventy salads. I have learnt a lot since working there and I really enjoy my job.

nothing fun here

no way of moveing up pay and hours are nothing, managers are almost always up Ur a**, and time off for part timers are not set up, lost money due to it.

Pros

1 free pizza slice every year (and pop)

Cons

bad hours low pay no benefits, no respect for you if you work here

The job wasn’t that bad but the management made it a horrible work environment to be in

Metro 331 in Orangeville has a horrible work environment. Supervisors are toxic and bosses are outright rude to not only employees but customers as well. I worked there for 7 years and nothing good came from this place

Pros

Flexible hours

Cons

Management

Horrible management

Horrible experience. Managers treat people like numbers and play favourites. Doesn’t matter if you work hard. Need to kiss a**. Saw lots of people standing around talking and ignoring customers but I kept out of it. Was let go before my 3 months even though I specifically asked for feedback and support. Stay away. Horrible place to work

Pros

Zero

Cons

Horrible management and favouritism

Worst Place to Work At

The days and nights are stressful, I learnt nothing from my time there other than the fact you have to have your own back, management is awful, workplace culture and diversity is non-existent, it is a racist company to work for, there are no enjoyable parts to the job at metro maybe except for the people, but that is 50-50 chance of being good or bad, the hardest part of my time there was that they would cut hours and would put more responsibility on the people already employed (ie. customer service person would have to do customer service, cash, online orders, price checks, etc. because we don’t have the hours to schedule extra help) and they are severely understaffed as well.Absolutely do not work for this company. They are awful management and they do not respect their staff and their time.

Not great

Metro is a company that will do their best to make you quit. They do not offer any part time benefits, getting full time is extremely difficult, the management are extremely lazy for the most part.If you are under 18 in Ontario, they will pay you student minimum wage, and of course as its a union environment you'll have a couple dollars taken out of that every paycheque, and the union is never there to help you in any way.

Pros

Co-workers are great

Cons

everything else

Stable job with flexible hours

Stable job with a welcoming team. Hours were flexible and the management was understanding of my commitment to my full-time studies while working part time.

Pros

flexible hours, predictable workplace, good management

Cons

lack of hours when needed

La charcuterie…

J’ai travaillé dans le temps au métro au poste de charcuterie et c’était vraiment pas plaisant comme travail. Mieux pour un étudiant-e, ou plus jeune.

Fun workplace, interactive, social

Communication with shoppers, co-workers daily. Helping others and having support from certain team members.Management varied depending on who was there meaning manager or assistant manager. If you book time off depending on departure you usually get it.Some staff members can be rudley unprofessional and try to get you fired (management knows how they are and let's them get away with it always) from my experience.

Pros

People, pay every week

Cons

People, hours are all over the place, scheduled change every week

Decent place to work for starters.

2 Paid break of 20 minutes. Conflicting information from employees(unionized) and supervisors (non-union) on how to get things done. Room to grow if you do a good job.

Relaxing, friendly environment with some cool people

The job was straight forward and easy, stocking shelves. I really enjoyed stocking and making sure products are visible for customers to easily see and purchase.Displaying the products customers wanted and needed gave me a sense of purpose and satisfaction. There's also a lot of behind the scenes operations that goes on and gets done. You'll get to learn the ropes of it if you stay long enough. My manager was so awesome, friendly, encouraging and understanding. I'd have loved to continue working under him if i didn't get a much better pay offer elsewhere. All in all, Metro is a place i enjoyed walking into to perform my shift duties along with my colleagues to serve our lovely and respectful customers.

Pros

Flexible shifts, great colleagues, awesome manager and assistant manager

Cons

Minimum wage pay, Hours only guaranteed for tenured full timers.
