Since the day I began working for merry maids, I’ve always been treated with respect by all management and employees . I’m always able to approach by bosses about a concern, without worry of judgement or lack of interest. Merry maids is a great team environment but more importantly, we are a family!!!

Got ghosted after 2 weeks of work

I started working at the Halifax location late October but got ghosted about a week ago(week of remembrance day) and haven’t heard from anyone since, I’ve tried in vain to secure hours as i have bills to pay but get the same answer every time. The gossip was insane whenever I worked and some staff were near impossible to get along with, overall they were sort of nice i guess but ultimately between the ghosting and bad mouthing i dont have the energy to keep trying, i will be handing in my resignation as soon as I secure another job.

Not a good place to work

If you enjoy cleaning please apply to a different company. This is a terrible work environment you are Lucky to make $12 an hour. The managers are terrible and do not care for there employees.

Stressful and unpredictable work environment

Very high expectations - they expect you to clean extremely fast (which leads to lower quality cleaning) and keep to your schedule no matter what, while also expecting you to stay late to finish cleans without warning. Despite unreasonable timelines you are expected to hand scrub grout and hand mop floors. Compensation didn't match what was advertised, and was never explained in detail. Management was passive aggressive, wasn't supportive and had a lack of compassion for employees in training. Management played favourites and had double standards between employees. The workplace culture often felt immature with people talking behind your back and placing blame. Very stressful work environment considering you are only doing residential cleaning. The only upside was talking with customers and seeing neat houses.

Save your self the Stress

-Lack of communication from the office to team members-Passive aggressive behavior from office towards employees that don't Aline with their views -over working employees due to the offices lack of proper scheduling- not enough work is the common excuse you will hear when they don't need you that day ( but they will be over working the other employees ''that they do need'')- you are not valued even if they say you are.-they will not follow employment standards acts/ health and safety ( they wont make you fill out a report if you get hurt on the job for example if you where to falling down the stairs of a clients home and getting hurt or twisting your ankle.)I do not recommend if you have family that depend on you to bring in income.if your a student trying to make it on your own.even if your one that lives with your family the degrading experience that i received i would not wish it on anyone. butif you can put up with all of that just because some customers will be nice to you for cleaning your house then maybe this job will be a stepping stone in your path but don't make it your life.

Working at Merry maids was stressful, and had very high expectations. Yet, had double standards. Some, would be late everyday, miss a day atleast a week, and never really hear anything. I would never miss a day, and when I’d need to take a sick day to rest, it was always “are you sure? This is going to make it difficult for me” and a lot of back talking and gossiping between employees and my MANAGER which should not happen. The work place is always mostly just women. And it has obviously a very highschool-esque vibe, lots of gossip, groups, and drama. I kept to my self but the high workload and lack of compassion for their employees really made me understand the compliments and so called advances in the company are only to benefit them. When I tried to give my two weeks notice, I was immediately taken off the schedule for the jext 2 weeks, meaning I was out pay for that time. I was told how much they cared about me, and I was apart of a family, but I don’t think that is what is happening. Also, had to ask for my benefits after 6 months, when I feel the management should have some responsibility to begin the process with the employees when they say benefits will come into effect. I should not have to beg for them. I was there for a year, and ended up never receiving them.

It was not a fun environment…

At the beginning I loved the job but before I left I didn’t feel comfortable there anymore. They were putting me down behind my back. They didn’t make me feel like I was part of the team abd they would talk about me. Without me noticing. They kept giving me complaints when I never changed anything I did in any house so I don’t get why I would get so many… I’ve worked with another company and never had any complaints… so I think that I was too good for them and they didn’t like that.

the people were great, the owner is really nice but it is a hard job, you dont get paid enough for what you do and it is back breaking. They do have company cars you drive though which is nice as a lot of cleaning companies dont have that option.

Wouldn’t recommend

Sometimes the job was ok, although The work isn’t worth the pay. It’s very physical and tiring. You are there from 9am-4 or so and only get paid for in house hours. Definitely not a living wage. At times management was rude and condescending.

Great people to work for

Fun place to work. Customers are great. I really enjoyed working with the seniors. The company provides all of the cleaning products and equipment, they also maintain it. I had to drive my own car, but they reimbursed me for using it.

Do not work here

Do not work here, the job description is very misleading, they will tell you that you’re making an hourly rate, and then say you are making a commission. The people in the office will tell you they do not do the payroll, but won't get into contact with who does to fix your paycheque. You will work 40-plus hours a week but only get paid for when you are in homes not while driving to homes, and they will forget to doc some of your hours and blame you for it. Then they won't give you access to your time card. They take advantage of you by underpaying you, even though you are doing 4-5 houses a day, and then intern tell you if you work harder you'll make more money. Do not believe them. PS: Its family owned so there's no one to fix your problem, they're all in on it.

Good people and good work

The people that work at Merry Maids are all good people, easy to get along with and fun to work with. Management has been really good to me too, they communicate well with the employees. The job is fairly easy for the most part and is nice to have something different every day so it doesn’t get boring.

There are pros and cons to every job but the pros out way the cons

I’ve worked for the Surrey MM for over 4 years and I won’t lie and say I’ve loved it the entire time. There are good days and bad days at any job you work at! However I wouldn’t want to work for any other cleaning company just from the experience I have working here and hearing the horror stories from other cleaning companies. The location I work for has an amazing owner, lovely office staff, the employees are all friendly and the ones that aren’t don’t stay! We get paid time off, paid drive time(we get paid all day), benefits, company car, random gifts throughout the year, the owner is very understanding when things come up and you need a day (just don’t abuse it obviously)! If you like hard work and enjoy a fast paced place this is the place for you! This job isn’t just wiping counters and mopping the floors, it’s an extensive deep clean! I can’t speak on behalf of all the locations but the one I work for is awesome!

Was in general a good experience I had to leave for an other reasons but the job was decent pay , every Friday , I didn’t drive so I was working the next day of my interview with a partner that drive around ! They all were very friendly and I had a great partner to work with . The job was a little hard at the beginning because I wasn’t used to it but after few week you should adapt. Is decent for make sone money if you need it right away . And the good part is sone days you leave early like 3 or 4 pm

Great People and Great Work

I work in the east end of Ottawa and I have to say, it is the BEST place I have ever worked. I am paid fairly, I am respected and I truly enjoy what I do. I know not many people can say that. Merry Maids is a great place, not only to work but to grow. I started cleaning and now I book the cleans. Could not be happier.
