Work on the best stuff in the industry.

Indeed featured review

Working for Mercury Filmworks is a choice experience for many animators because they work on incredible projects that lead the animation industry and set the bar high for all other studios. The work is enjoyable, but difficult to meet quota if you focus too much on quality. Bringing characters to life is deeply satisfying but the company is fairly large, so communication is not always the best between departments. Changes and raises happen slowly. People can do well here financially if they are single and learn to work quickly. If they have a family to support, the spouse will most likely need to bring in half your required income. If your spouse works for the government, you will have more fun than they will, but you will also get paid less than they do. Ottawa is a beautiful city to live in but groceries, rent, and clothing are not cheap.

Pros

Work on award-winning shows, Barbecues, Nice office, Constructive feedback, Incredible people

Cons

Raises difficult, Communication breakdowns, Pay per frame can be challenging

Dynamic shows & environment, supportive teams, tons of fun! Great work place!

I have been with Mercury Filmworks for well over a year and this is a great company to work WITH! Their is no hierarchy - everyone is focused on and works toward the same goal(s); produce exceptional/award winning shows, foster rock-solid relationships with partners & employees and have a blast doing so! Great camaraderie, tons of fun events, continuous learning/development is routinely provided and advancement opportunities abound here!

Productive and fun place to work

Great studio and the opportunity to work on some great, fun and high quality shows. Like any animation studio, work hours can be long depending on your skill level. Work is fast paced as you need to meet weekly quotas

Pros

free popcorn

Cons

long hours, fast paced

Stressful, low pay, long hours

Not the greatest work environment. Paid less than minimum wage for extremely long hours of work. Expected to work weekends and a lot of overtime for free. Very few patient and good supervisors who are willing to train new employees. Coworkers miserable and unfriendly. Management threatening and mean. Overall atmosphere is very stressful, very miserable and negative. Known to exploit workers.

Pros

Free popcorn every other day

Cons

Miserable environment, low pay, artists are exploited
