They treat the residents badly
Co-op Student (Former Employee) - Halifax, NS - 27 January 2020
Indeed featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedThey are really rough with the residents, and the nurses act like they would rather be anywhere else. I was supposed to shadow the recreational therapist, but she was barely around, I started asking the dietary nurse questions cuz she was actually nice to me. Some girl in the office accused me of breaking into a residents room (apparently she had "video evidence" but refused to show me).

It was stressful, not alot of teamwork, management was terrible. Noone cared about anything
Personal Support Worker (Former Employee) - 50 shoreham lane - 6 January 2022
Terrible place to work at, no teamwork, gossip at work place between co workers, tenured coworkers are bossy and lazy. Everyone did their own thing. Management was terrible. One person felt like they owned the building. Not great at approving leaves.

Not the best place to work.
RN Staff Nurse (Former Employee) - Spryfield, NS - 4 October 2020
Unfortunately it is a time when stress levels are high and it shows in the attitudes of Management. Huge turnover in Management. Makes you wonder what is happening to them.

A great place to work!
Licensed Practical Nurse (Current Employee) - East/West - 9 April 2020
Management is very supportive and considerate of their staff. They seem to actually care about their employees. There is a huge emphasis on the care of the residents, it is always at the forefront of decisions. My co-workers are great too, lots of friendly people to work with. The downside is most RNs refuse to help with anything and don't seem interested in caring for residents.

Productive and good work place
Continuing Care Assistant/Personal Care Worker (Current Employee) - Halifax, NS - 4 December 2019
Average salary with adequate shifts available for part time and casual workers. Applicants though should be willing or to expect heavy residents with challenging behaviors.

A great learning environment, culture changing
Nurse (Former Employee) - Halifax, NS - 4 June 2019
I have worked for this company as nursing staff.
I know reviews have not been great but this is really not a bad place to work.
Management is there to assist when needed
It is a big facility, over 100 residents so it can be quite busy.
LTC today is more acute and busy than it ever has been.
There is the beginning of a culture change happening at Melville Lodge
The management team has changed
People seem happier
Still, a busy place to work but a great environment for learning and to care for the elderly population.
Pros
A great learning opportunity, good salary, benefits, room for advancement
Cons
In the process of change, a busy working environment

Wrost run faclity in NS
cca (Current Employee) - 50 shoreham lodge - 27 September 2018
If you are a caring compassionate person who enjoys your job this is not the place for you. IF you enjoy being watched constantly, told you're a liar, understaff, under appreciated than maybe you'd enjoy it here.
Management is the problem. walking into that office it has the worst negative feelings before they even say anything to you. They truly treat their staff the worst and their turn out for staff leaving is high. some people don't even make it though orientation shifts before quitting. You can see the stress on the staffs face, someone is crying because of how were treated and they make it Impossible for you to feel like you're a valued member of the team. That place would be run much better if the management was different but sadly it looks like it will be staying. Even our residents have asked us if its bad in there because they can see it on your faces.
I have been yelled at for taking a second to sit down and have a drink of water being called lazy. They don't care about your personal issues, they wouldn't believe you even if you told them. people have had to take pictures of themselves in the hospital with family members only to have proof when management comes at them yelling because they're "lying." Even with doctors notes I've been told I wasn't actually sick.
My advice to anyone is it's not worth it.
Pros
nothing
Cons

Its a great place to learn and work within your scope of practice.
Nursing Assistant (Former Employee) - Halifax, NS - 16 April 2018
I know there is negative comments but you need to think about who they may be coming from. You are held responsible and you learn so much that you could work anywhere with the knowledge you gain at Melville Lodge.
Don't believe everything you hear.

Worst run facilty in the city
CCA (Former Employee) - Halifax, NS - 28 January 2018
Worst place I have ever worked at in my life. The work environment is poison and the people who run the facilty don't care about the staff unless your a brown noser who feeds them information about other staff. There are 2 separate sets of rules one for people they like and then there's everybody else. Stay far away from this place I wouldn't let my dog live there it's a disgrace.

Not a pleasant environment
LPN (Former Employee) - Halifax, NS - 27 March 2017
Like to remind employees that they are being watched by cameras. Almost no autonomy, I had to ask permission to do my job at every turn. Too much red tape and bureaucracy makes for a dangerous environment.

Part time job
Dietary Aide (Current Employee) - Halifax, ns - 22 August 2014
This is not my full time job, I work there because I was trying to make some extra money and I really love working with people.
A typical day at this job is assisting the cook with meals, serving meals to residents, cleaning up after meals, and maintaing the correct diets for the residents.
Management is pretty good, a bit unorganized sometimes but pretty good.
Love the people I work with, they are supportive, helpful and friendly.
The hardest part of my job is learning and keeping all the different diets in my head so I know what to serve residents, I think there is around 125.
The most enjoyable part of my day is when the meal has been served and I can go around and chat with the residents.
Pros
Interaction with residents
Cons
Its casual
