After a long absence, my return to MDA has been full of surprises. The new management team has proven that their promise to focus on employees is truly their mission, not just empty words. The cultural facelift is refreshing - from frequent token gestures to show their gratitude for your services, to bold strides in removing toxic contributors from the work environment. A far cry from complacency. A dramatic increase in hiring over the recent years has invited a younger workforce that brings about a fun and vibrant atmosphere. In tandem, the investment in employee training has also seen a significant rise, not only in courses/lectures, but also with the implementation of a new shadow/mentorship strategy that allows both junior and senior employees to collaboratively grow in different ways. The new Canadarm3 contract has also renewed the sense of national pride, and along with it a hopeful and optimistic outlook on the technology development ahead. I'm definitely excited to be back. Who wouldn’t want to be a part of this iconic lunar mission?
Pros
Makes you feel like you're part of a family.
Cons
Long commute to work.

The work culture is really great, there is a lot of teamwork and respect. Coworkers are extremely welcoming and helpful when transitioning into the new role, everyone is open to answering questions. Flex time and benefits are really good. Lots of opportunity for training and further education. Management is great and works with you to plan out where you want your career to go and what projects you are interested in. The new structure of the company is helping MDA grow and bringing on a lot of new projects and talent. It's a great place to fuel your passion and contribute meaningful work to Canada's space industry.

MDA is a changed place, with renewed energy and focus under the new leadership. Working on Canadian robotic systems for humanity's return to the Moon is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that is both challenging and rewarding.
Pros
Being part of Canada's flagship space programs
Cons
Long commute from where I live

This place practices discrimination during the hiring process based on ethnic origin and the immigration status despite available and confirmed in Canada and in Europe relevant high qualification, Canadian citizenship, available security clearance. Nationalistic discrimination and harassment during the employment is the norm here. Corporate lie about allegedly policies is the norm as well. Nepotism and cronyism is widespread in this organization. The management on all levels and the HR are all heavily involved into this outrageous racism.
Pros
empployment itself
Cons
Outrageous harassment and discrimination

Over my internship I was given the opportunity to lead my own research project. This freedom to have control over the design was very encouraging and beneficial to my personal development. They also hosted hockey games on a semi-weekly basis, which was a fun opportunity to meet other members of the company.

Lot of support and trainings, have a cafeteria onsite and volleyball games. A good place to learn formal dev processes for new grads or co-op students. The pay is low though.

Good. Awesome place to work. They don't hire many people due to budget constraint. There is one cafeteria. Co-workers are very friendly. Some teams still using old technology.

get to work on very interesting projects like assemblies that go into space. But very little advancement to Senior or management. also work is very administrative with lots of paperwork. No actual engineering just chasing paper.
Pros
Interesting Projects
Cons
No advancement

salary is much lower than market, so the later hired got higher salary and then stay at the level. This year (2019) the rate of salary increase is based on your current one, higher pay got lower rate. During the work, result is less important than attitude. Code reviewers intend to force their own personal preference, if you argue back, then you become a difficult people to work with.

The best thing about the job is the co-workers, everyone is always willing to answer any questions and help you out. The pay for the job is low and upper-management doesn't really seem to know what they're doing. Pay raises are always coming "soon" and constant re-organisations are used as a smokescreen to make it seem like HR and management are making useful changes.
Pros
Great peers
Cons
Poor upper-management

Colleagues were smart and very professional. Learned a lot whilst working there (Left in 2012) Things have changed with a new management team so have no idea of the current culture.
Pros
Challenging work, Great professional environment and as a learning environment was second to none, Great place to start your career to get a solid foundation.
Cons
Was known as a bit of a sweat shop which staff put up with because the work was interesting, Pay was just OK, but for software engineers it was better to leave and return if you wanted a decent salary, especially if you came fresh from University.

The best part of MDA were the smart and friendly people you get to work with. The salaries weren't great compared to other places and the opportunities for advancement were not there as any openings that I felt i could grow into were always filled externally by someone who would just leave a year later.

It was one of the worst working experience for my more that 20 years work in IT field in Canada. 1. Miscommunication. I was assigned to create a Stored Procedure which was running very slow. I had to thinking about another approach to find a solution, spent a lot of effort and time. Later I figured out that another programmer was making regular maintenance of the Database without notifying others. 2. No introducing to new team members. New people, your neighbor by cubicle - just coming and going. You asking where is that guy? Getting answer: He left two weeks ago! Where you've been? 3. Manager lead meetings very ugly, talking very quite, mumbling under his nose. Only speaking up about his travel to NASA center. 4. Minimal help. The most of asking for help from the team leader - getting answer: Read the documentation. 5. Unequal treatment of workers with different backgrounds. I had to spend 3 hours every day for commuting to work place for almost two years. I asked to give me at least one day in the middle of week to work remotely - got answer 'the policy of our company does not allow that'. It was strange because two other guys from our team regularly worked from home, even twice a week and even manager asked them where they prefer to work this or that day. Only after involving HR person I've got permission to work once a week remotely, breaking the most important policy of the company. 6. Isolation. Probably, after a hidden command or hint from the manager I was excluded from all status meetings for almost a year! I've got bunch of old technology applications - more...
Pros
Closer to Space :)
Cons
Long hours, unfriendly management and team, unequal treatment of workers with different backgrounds.
