Grad Student in Medecine. Gruelling hours, litttle pay, you have to buy in insurance. It is good to get a masters but I had to invest in my future and do sacrifices. It is very PI dependent and my PI was not really the best.

Pros

Student discounts

Cons

Long hours

Great graduate programs at McGill University

Granted that you have a well defined research project and funding, you can expect an overall stimulating and interesting experience conducting research in the engineering department. It's a place of learning and developing essential skills as a young engineer.

Good experience as a Grad student

As a grad student, I had to balance work and social life but it was not difficult because my supervisor was understanding and lenient. Employees were friendly and very supportive.

friendly place to work

It was a good university to study at. I did my PhD study over there at McDonal Campus. The problem is that it is outside of the city and took half an hour up to one hour of communication if you would like to live in downtown Montreal. Apart from that, the department was perfect.

Pros

good community. good equipment.

Cons

Far from downtown

Great place to work

Amazing work culture, great city to live in. Lively and big but cheap. Tons of opportunities to grow professionally. Overall a very european feel and and work culture.

Research Assistant

Being a PhD student at McGill is an enjoyable journey. You have work-life balance. The city is very affordable for students with plenty options for outdoor work.

An excellent school for the research

As a graduate research trainee I don't think I could have ask more. The job that was given to me was interesting and challenging at the same time. I had to work a lot but the results were outstanding.

Great place for grad school

I learned a great deal about research. My communication skills increased greatly through oral presentations and written work (e.g., publications). I learned a great deal due to close ties with industry partners. This resulted in my obtaining very practical experience along side my degree.

Its a great university to work. However, I didn't have a good working experience. Labs do not collaborate within each other. Very competitive environment.

productive and fun workplace

It is a good place where you can learn a lot. The graduate progam in Parasitology is very good. However funding is not that much so one should be careful in selecting a professor.
