Culture change with new management.
Manger (Former Employee) - Edmonton, AB - 12 September 2023
Indeed featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedDirect Manager was great to work with. Listened to and worked to mitigate issues. Upper Management used to feel caring and engaging, however to not feel that the culture is the same under new management. Safety is a top priority with this company.

Amateur. Lack of competent leadership and resources. Under staffed.
Shipping and Receiving (Current Employee) - Edmonton, AB - 19 September 2023
You will be tasked with performing the work load of several employees. Coming to work early to gain an advantage on the workload will lead to being taken for granted, and management will then use that time to schedule more work. They do not hire adequate personnel to perform work safely, to the point of delaying updating SOP's as that would force them to hire more staff to follow those updates. They do not offer a competitive wage to attract competency when they do try to hire. They will lower journeyman rates at review time to skirt legislated pay raises. They attempt to have employees use personal time to perform required maintenance on machinery, refusing to allocate business hours to safety sensitive maintenance.
Pros
Local. Mon-Fri.
Cons
Taken for granted, to the point of it being borderline abusive.

Stressing and unattended work place
Sableur (Current Employee) - Drummondville, QC - 13 August 2023
The company is good, but the management does not do their job, there is a terrible disorganization, there is no teamwork, if you have a problem management does not care, if you have an accident at work, they try to outsmart you and If you don't complain, they let it go so you don't report it. If you have medical attention without consulting them, they get upset and try to blame you.

It's ok, a lot of new people and changes, salary is not great. Hopefully things now get better. All kinds of people to work with, room for improvement

Great advancement opportunities
N/A (Former Employee) - Toronto, ON - 20 June 2023
If you're willing to put in the work, there is great opportunities for advancement. They moved to being remote during the pandemic and didn't seem like there was desire to go back into office.
Pros
Advancement opportunities, benefits and pay
Cons
Some management

Stay away! If you like being exploited and be treated like a disposable then work here
Ex employee (Former Employee) - 3710 69 Ave NW, Edmonton, AB T6B 2V2 - 31 May 2023
Management is a joke, they don't train you for nothing, they just drop you to someone to observe, then when you finally know something by your own efforts, they won't give you your necessary tools to do the job! I personally just gathered broken and disposed tools by me coworkers just to do the job,. You won't be able to call and sick for 2 years if you're not hired in January! STAY AWAY!!!
Pros
None
Cons

Alright place to work when not laid off
General Labourer (Former Employee) - Camrose, AB - 10 May 2023
Make sure your mailing address is up to date, will lose your job otherwise when laid of and miss your call back. Besides that a good place to work bunch of people that will bend a bit backwards to help you.

chaotic
inspection and yard (Former Employee) - Dimsdale, AB - 15 January 2023
unproductive morning general meetings, was more like morning beatings. High absentee rates, rampant alcoholism. You'd be better off as an inmate at any correctional institution.

Productive workplace
General Labourer (Former Employee) - Lloydminster - 22 November 2022
Pays alright, work task's pretty much easy, just some yard works and dealing with tubing and sucker rods. Offers overtime with different shifts. Decent management.

Productive and fun workplace with table tennis table
Insulation Extruder Operator (Former Employee) - Etobicoke, ON - 21 November 2022
Work hard and within the supervisor's prescribed schedule and you'll be ok. Ask and keep asking for long hours if you desire to work overtime. Shawcor Ltd. is a fun place to work. Ask for as much help as you need but stand up for yourself as your coworkers are not responsible for providing you with the correct information, your superiors, including your supervisors, engineers, and managers are.
Pros
Free lunches
Cons
Long hours

Productive. Fun place to work
General Labourer (Former Employee) - Lloydminster, AB - 24 October 2022
People are great. Management is supportive. Downside is pay is not that good and you work for long days almost no time for yourself and family. Overall the conpany is good but don't expect for growth and advancement.

Zero job security.
Automation Technician (Former Employee) - Calgary, AB - 4 September 2022
Low quality management. After 3 positive yearly reviews I was terminated without cause (employer term "layoff") along with around 200 others via a remote "meeting". Employees are routinely lied to by management and then discarded like yesterdays garbage. Engineers and managers who failed to solve technical product issues kept their jobs while lower level employees were purged en masse.

Overall I enjoyed working at Shawcor. It was unfortunate they let good people go after buying Flint.
Administrative Assistant/Data Entry Clerk/Invoicing Specialist (Former Employee) - Edmonton, AB - 22 July 2022
Overall I enjoyed my position at Shawcor. It would have been appreciative if they acknowledged the hard work and time invested in learning about the company.

just don't work there
Operator/Labourer at 54th (Former Employee) - Camrose, AB - 29 June 2022
Unless you're 19 and have no plans for your future, this isn't the place you want to work. Only a chosen few of the long time employees ever get trained for better jobs. Management for the most part is clueless. The shifts are long, the equipment is under-maintained, and the whole building leaks every time it rains. It takes a long time to get to a decent rate of pay.
Pros
Decent benefits plan. Union.
Cons
No work/life balance.

Personal Growth and Career Development
Anonymous (Former Employee) - Canada - 17 May 2022
Excellent corporate values and personal development. Since this is an energy services company that is tied to the oil and gas industry, there are layoffs every 4-5 years.
