Chaotic but well paid
Purchasing Assistant (Former Employee) - Ottawa, ON - 15 August 2022
Indeed featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedIt seems like every department is always "catching up" and therefore no one is working on improvements for the future but just getting the backlog of work done. Also, the quality of the homes is so terrible that it was difficult to be a customer facing employee. Almost none of the home owners were ever happy.

Very disappointing
Project Manager (Current Employee) - Canada - 15 August 2022
Management has no regard for employee safety or welfare. There's a complete lack of consideration for work quality and customer service. It is very discouraging and disappointing for such a large company to display such lack of corporate responsibility to its customers, community, and stakeholders.

Some good people with a toxic supervisor hierarchy
New home warranty technician (Former Employee) - Oakville, ON - 4 August 2022
If you like a job where the pay is moderate at best for what is required of you, your managers can never be happy (with your work or their own supervisors) and you are constantly getting chewed out by homeowners for their poorly built houses... Then this is the job for you! P.S. This is based on my experience in the warranty department only.

Cons
Toxic work environment in the warranty department.

Fun hard satisfactory work
General Labourer (Current Employee) - Kanata, ON - 14 July 2022
Management are probably the best Ive been with. They appreciate the hard work, and they acknowledge it. The crew is nice, the benefits are awesome, the pay is decent. I switched careers because my last job was very germy(could catch covid), unsure if I want to go back to it because theres a low chance of catching it, I think I'll stay with Mattamy.

Excellent Place to Work
HR Coordinator (Former Employee) - Toronto, ON - 5 July 2022
Everyday is different. Very fun and exciting place to work with a great company culture. Everyone is so supportive right from the bottom up and wants to see you succeed. Always looking to run fun activities and setting up team lunches. Mattamy is a great place to grow and succeed!

You've been warned
Warranty (Former Employee) - Toronto, ON - 4 July 2022
Be prepared to be drowning in work with no help. Good luck. Please look elsewhere, you will probably be treated better by a smaller builder than this one.
Pros
Good health benefits
Cons
High turnover

Enjoyable place to work . Some sites are like families
Site Supervisor (Former Employee) - Milton, ON - 4 July 2022
With the exception of some upper management that have since been terminated it was a great place to work . There are definitely peers that are out to sabotage others to better themselves but thats pretty much every company .

Primarily chaos
New Home Builder Tech (Former Employee) - Edmonton, AB - 23 May 2022
Below construction industry standard pay...limited benefits. A lot of clicks, back stabbing & underhanded moves by managers. No real focus on customer satisfaction that leaves staff open to abusive behavior from customers...some of which have unreasonable expectations

Jobs at Mattamy Homes
Great Employer. It's not easy.
New Home Technician (Former Employee) - Oakville, ON - 6 January 2022
Loved my time as a NHT in the GTAW for the most part. There's always people that just don't play nice with others, especially with a company as big as this. If you're a steady worker you'll succeed. Never had a layoff, some of the managers would have you believe different, hasn't been one in decades. Not sure how the US employees are treated but here in Canada it was first class. Hourly for the NHT is below par but the 44 a week is always there and more during the 4qtr push if you want it. It's overall a great place to work, but everything is what you make of it. I still miss the fellas.
Pros
Lunches, bonuses, extra gift cards and gifts, steady and secure, 3 weeks vacation, 5 paid sick days, wide variety of skill set needed, satisfying when it all comes together at the very last minute.
Cons
Crazy busy in the 4th qtr, if you're really good they'll dump it all on you, some meatheads in the AB and B positions. Work-life suffers.

If you are a sub Contractor stay away
Sub-Contractor (Former Employee) - various - 4 November 2021
I have had over 15 years experience with Mattamy and they are the most difficult to work with in Alberta by far.. If you have an option stay away.. Everything is your fault not theirs and you will be taking out loans to pay your employees while they ride the high horse.. They demand way more from trades for the same money.... laugh as you leave
Pros
safe
Cons
no respect

Toxic work Environment
Builder (Current Employee) - Kanata, ON - 3 August 2021
Upper level management is rude and aggressive, hasn't got a clue how to talk to their staff. The entire Ottawa division needs a shake up that has been in the making for a long time. Not very many happy people to be coming into work.
Pros
Steady work, good benefits
Cons
Bullying, toxic work environment

If you want to go back to 90s style corporate culture with 0 diversity this place might be for you
PROGRAMMER ANALYST (Former Employee) - Toronto, ON - 8 June 2021
Very heirarchical management style... It department highly ignored especially developers, no career path to grow, high bias towards technical people, 0 diversity at c level, toxic culture, mediocrity is highly rearward and hard working people are ignored
Pros
Free lunches, good training budget
Cons
No appreciation for employee hard work, role bias

no loyalty and they treat you like a criminal when laid off
Supervise, manage and train 2 assistants and 1 junior supervisor (Former Employee) - Edmonton - 6 April 2021
I would not let anyone I care for work here. If your friends with the management you can coast. It was a great place to work until they laid off the Edmonton president who always took time to thank you for your hard work.
Pros
Benifits
Cons
no loyalty

No security
Warranty Technician (Former Employee) - Toronto, ON - 22 February 2021
If you want to end up a scape goat or get fired for no reason, work for Mattamy. Internal politics and Managers looking out for them selves. No one cares when your just a number. So many incompetent Managers and supervisors, makes it impossible to succeed or advance.
Pros
Free lunches and parties
Cons
No security

Quantity not quality
No idea?! (Former Employee) - Ottawa, ON - 19 January 2021
First off. The homes are absolutely bad quality. Crooked cracked missing siding. Brick work all over the place. Caulking is bad, looks very amateur for such a large company Management, although nice enough, are super unorganized and have no clue what’s actually going on. I’d avoid this place unless you are new to construction. Quantity not quality
Pros
Mon-Friday
Cons
Unorganized, management not good, rush rush rush

Quiet office and little loyalty towards their employees.
Architectural Technologist (Former Employee) - Calgary, AB - 11 September 2020
I enjoyed my time working for the company. I found the office staff weren't too chatty and kept to themselves but the pay and benefits were good. Employees shouldn't get comfortable as there's a lot of turnover and the room for advancement is slim.
