Good opportunity for short-term employment (Mining Engineers/Geologists))
Mining Enginner (Former Employee) – Denver – 5 January 2013
Maptek is a good place to work for 2-3 years, and then you will want to find another job to advance your career. Its good because you will get to learn their Vulcan software very well. While there, you will support Vulcan and teach others to use it. You will meet lots of users at sites, and thus build a good network of future employers. So when you feel you've reached your end, there will be lots of jobs waiting for you. The reason you can't last longer is there is very little room for advancement, and management doesn't value experience; a new guy is treated the same as someone with 3+ years experience. Management has very little respect for employees, and will either micro-manage you or be totally hands-off and useless. But you learn to work through that for your short stay. Pay and benefits are good, and bonus payout can be good. Its a roller coaster job; you work with clients and life is good, then you work with management and life sucks. But overall, its great for a couple years, and then your resume will be highly desired because of your Vulcan skills.
