General Labourer in New Hamburg, ON

Hard physical work
This job is not for everyone. It is extremely long lours and very hard on your body. I was Trained in three departments and would often work close to 50hours as a “casual” They have casual workers and full time workers. The casuals are treated very poorly, they’re often students and many quit often. The casuals always have to do the extra bad jobs and no one- even full timers get recognition. Seniority is the biggest thing with this facility and even if there’s someone better fit for the job they will always choose the person with higher seniority. I requested days in July off and i put The request in in April and still got denied. Very unfair. You don’t have end times for your shift. Depending on your department varies start times. I typically Started at 5am or 6am and you finish when the job is done. Even if that takes you 13 hours (because of short staff or machines breaking down) you stay and work the whole time The management is very unorganized and makes a lot of poor choices, but they are nice as people. Other coworkers are friendly and generally want to help if you have questions. It’s a hard place to work, very physically demanding. I worked there for 9 months and was ready to leave at month 7/8. The pay is very good that’s why i stayed.

Very organized culture
When fully trained, everyone knows their job, where and when they are to be and work together to achieve the common goal. Cooperative, productive. Everyone pulls their own share of the workload.
