Lied to and then Laid Off

For a year we had been told our plant was not shutting down and that we should be excited for the future. This week we were told we are redundant and can't talk about it. Sleezy way to handle things but seems it was par for the course for the management team in the plant. So much for the company's core values. Values aren't things you elect to do or choose to do when you feel like it. Do not recommend anyone trust these gaslighters. The workers are amazing, and all will be missed.

Pros

the drive home

Cons

the drive into work

Terrible place to work, mess management and unfair.

You have to work in low temperatures and accept the chaos of their management, while older employees also bully you although this company has ran many years.

Pros

Nothing

Full shortcomings

High Turnovers and Poor Management

Many turnovers and constant hiring for the same position. Gaslighting co-workers and "mentors". Unsupportive and expects too much without proper training. Wage gaps between different departments are astronomical. The directors, senior management and CEO gets paid way too much while other positions barely receive a significant raise.

Lots of room for improvement but little or no opertunity to contribute to that process .

No parts no information and lots of choas . Leadership was lacking and conforntational. Poor conflict resolution practices and intimidation tactics were applied. Overall poor management practices and a us verses them mentality not a healthy work life balance or place to work . You know that you you are working for then not with them .

Pros

Most of the people maintenance hourly were good to work with .

Cons

Poor management

Not great

Poor leadership, not just in the plant but especially from the head office. Given contradicting directives, minimal to no training and no resources to complete the required tasks within regular work hours. The old CEO mandated that there would be no bonuses then as his last order of business in the shareholder call gave himself and other executives huge bonuses before retiring, without giving anyone a chance to ask questions about it.

Fun place to work, good money/benefits/

Everyone seemed to get along well (it’s a diverse community).Starting pay is higher than most companies in the industry. It’s easy to ask for a leave of absence. The hardest par of the job was when you have to make deviation tests. The most enjoyable part of the job was when you have to walk around the part plant, talk to employees, and just being there when something goes wrong.

Excellent Team Environment

Overall, it was a very good experience with excellent coworkers in a positive, supportive and innovative environment. I felt a part of the team and actually valued as an employee. Not only that, but it was also an amazing learning experience.

If you like your family...

Don't work here. The work life balance doesn't exist. I went days without seeing my children. I would start at 6:15 am and I would not get home from work until after 8 pm. My shifts were constantly changed without warning. My supervisor was dishonest frequently when I would ask a question about production planning. Sure, the job paid well, but you get to a certain point in your life when your time is not for sale. Training is pathetic.

Pros

Discounted chicken

Cons

Long hours, forced overtime, weak supervisors, a complete cluster duck in the HR department.

fun peolple to work with

“As long as you do your job, working at Maple Leaf will be an awesome experience and show people respect and work hard and work well with others. It is a place of business after all so you do have to know what you’re doing and how to go safely and efficiently. Other than that I just love what I do and that’s cleaning big machinery so that production can come in and do their job and plus I gotta say, it feels good to know that I am helping with the business of providing good food to people all over Canada. It’s because of Maple Leaf that I now have my own place and me and my son can eat live laugh and play in our own space on the weekends when I have time to spend with him, I wouldn’t trade this job for any other job.”

Tough Workplace

It’s demanding work and you might be expected to work Saturday’s at times. The environment isn’t too bad, although at times it could get pretty annoying due to very short breaks. Other than that it’s what you’d expect of a factory job.

Solid employment, fair treatment

Good place to learn new skills and the ins and outs of the food industry. Well stocked shop and friendly co workers. Decent work area and supportive leadership with advancement opportunities.

Overall not a good experience for me other than meeting some good people who work there.

What is the best part of working at the company?Decent wage and okay benefits. What is the most stressful part about working at the company?Overtime every shift due to lack of staff and constant breakdowns on the lines. Lack of communication from HR on everyday topics such as benefits. Proper training for new employees does not happen. What is the work environment and culture like at the company?Worked with good people. It is unionized. Clean plant and nice cafeteria. What is a typical day like for you at the company?Start shift by checking where you work, then go through a rotation through out the day. You never know when you are going home though due to break downs.

Learn what you can and move on!

My own words.. I did not listen to.. paid the price! Really.. please learn what you can and move on! Senior leadership does not care.. at all! Just learn what you can, make sure to make a few friends for reference checks and move on!
