Machinist (Former Employee) – Collingwood – 16 February 2018
Company has many many problems, Management very incompetent. The amount of unqualified people in Management positions is high. Making their Bonus is #1 priority everything else comes second. Little communication between Management and Employees. Employees are living just above the poverty line, Lots of people standing around waiting for parts not much work getting done due to lack of planning. If you are a Machinist and set up a machine for 1/2 hour you only machine 1 part instead of 20 etc.... They don't stock enough common parts. The programmers have no clue what they are doing. The z value is set off some vise they used 15 years ago not programmed off the top or bottom of the part. They don't even use the tapping cycle in a CNC lathe, that is done on a manual Machine after it has been "prepped" The Company buys old used equipment 10+ years old that is obsolete. The Roof is leaking badly Rain pours in in some areas. They won't fix it. It is a very loud environment. The people that are good are fed up and Retiring early because of the BS. If you suggest a better way of doing things you get " Thats the way we always have done it"
Its a Job
Low Pay, Lots of Incompetent Management, Company does not spend Money on Equipment/Maintainence.
Stay well away from this company ... Its messed up !
Design Engineer (Former Employee) – Collingwood, ON – 12 June 2018
There are so many problems in this company I don't really know where to start. As you can see its bad on the Shop Floor from other reviews below ..... The fact of the matter is that its the same in every department. I worked there for 4 years and had a awful experience with pretty much all the management that believe that the philosophy of keeping staff working is by constantly demotivating them by threatening them with layoff and other such tactics ..... Which they do .... All the time. Management don't understand the business and the people that do are suppressed from giving their opinion. I don't think anyone would consider this place as a career move, just a stepping stone at best.
If you live local .... No traveling !
Inexperienced unprofessional management ! Shop Floor and Offices
Worker (Former Employee) – Barrie, ON – 1 February 2018
It's hard to put into words how terrible this place is. The warehouse is an absolute disaster. There is no communication between management and the floor. The wage is barely over minimum wage in the province. The drawings are a complete mess and sometimes unreadable. Not a company you want to put on a resume.
I can only speak for collingwood facility. But the management is a complete joke.
Electrical technician (Former Employee) – Collingwood, ON – 15 January 2018
This place is by Far the worst place that I have ever worked for because of the management in place. They are to worried about lining there own pocket with there bonuses than quality of the product. They do this all under the owners nose without them knowing. Just a terrible terrrible management team.
Coworkers on the floor were great. Interesting work. Great way to learn troubleshooting skills
Field Service Technician (Former Employee) – Wolverine Mine, YT – 17 November 2017
Very good management to work with, listen to concerns in the work placed and acted upon them. Stood up for employees with customers. Ongoing training and advancement potential. Would still be there if economy had stayed good.
Welder (Former Employee) – Owen Sound, ON – 4 October 2017
Not a company to work for if you can think for yourself. Unless you are part of the inner circle a bunch of good ole boys, you wont last long. Basically the equivalent of a back yard mechanic, not a well run or maintained shop. Only good thing is it was close to home and there is not a large selection of jobs to begin with in the area.
General Labourer/Machine Operator (Former Employee) – Collingwood, ON – 23 June 2017
Adopted the saying, "it could always be worse", untill I worked there. Absolutely the worst place to work ever! Poor management with a lot of cross shift problems. Stay away from this company...period!!!
Maintenance (Former Employee) – Barrie, ON – 8 March 2016
In every task i was asked to do , every option of safety and training was offered. With three different departments it required strong communication on all levels to provide our customers with top quality products. It was great to be part of a company that is leading the way in "green" large scale manufacturing and recycling.
excellent benefits, and a focus on workplace safety
publishing assistant (Former Employee) – collingwood, ON – 12 November 2014
This was my first full-time job as a student and I found that it was a great place to start out and gain experience needed for my field of work. As a publishing assistant I had the lowest position in the department but I always felt like I was part of the team and was contributing to the companies overall work production rate. The salary rate was definitely a plus and the management for my department was top notch.
Challenging and busy position with a huge learning curve.
Parts Inventory Coordinator (Former Employee) – Greater Sudbury, ON – 13 January 2014
A typical day was filled with inventory review, control and ordering. Parts were coordinated between 4 company branches. Not having a mining or mine equipment background it was quite challenging to learn the parts systems and process of coordination. A new software and ordering process was installed in my time there and this was also a challenge not only for myself but for all levels of company employees. My cooworkers were very good to work with. The hardest part of the job was that this position, and all positions at MacLean Engineering were totally dependant on the mineral and mine market. Currently this volatile and unfortuneately due to necessary cut-backs myself and six other employees were laid off with no notice. I would consider the most enjoyable part of the job was the learning curve, learning a new industry and how it interplayed with other mines and business in our region which is heavily employed in the mining industry. Very interesting from that perspective.
a progressive Canadian owned and operated company and I value that .
Not extremely stable as I mentioned due to the fluctuating and challenged mineral market at present.
Unorganised chaos - too many chiefs not enough workers.
Warehouse Supervisor (Former Employee) – Barrie, ON – 21 August 2013
System driven - even if it is wrong. I brought system issues to upper management - told to basically butt out. Plenty of management rivalries which were responsible for low morale. Confusion and disorganization.
Production Planner / Material Expeditor (Former Employee) – Collingwood, Ontario – 2 January 2013
Worst place I have ever worked at. Even though I had 20+ years experience in planning, my opinion counted for nothing. When the plant manager brought in his plan which was a manual obsolete system, my negativity to his plan got me fired.
