Good for entry level, but don’t stay
Microbiology Tech (Former Employee) - Markham, ON - 27 April 2022
Indeed featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedThis is a great company to learn the ropes of the industry. But don’t plan on staying. It’s hard to maintain the hours for a long time. There is very little room for advancement and it isn’t likely that you will leave your department for another.

Growth opportunity non existent
Microbiologist (Former Employee) - Markham, ON - 29 April 2022
Paid poorly to do a job. Treated as a head count to make money for the company. New business means no extra benifits for employees, only for management with bonuses. Overworked and underpaid

A great place to work at for an entry level job
Microbiology Technician (Former Employee) - Markham, ON - 21 April 2022
A great place to work at for an entry level job. They spend a lot of time training you to develop your laboratory techniques and skills. They also let you think of ways on working more efficiently. However, there is OT almost every single day and will tell you to work faster if you are working too slow.

Toxic environment to work. Backstabbing, gossip, etc.
Microbiology Technician (Former Employee) - Markham, ON - 19 January 2022
People don't stay for to long. Overtime is mandatory, and every day. You don't have time to go home. Everyone is your boss. Supervisors don't know how to give feedback. They pin you on the wall in front of everybody.
Pros
Nothing
Cons
Music

Uncertain workload, unfair distribution of work and stressful environment.
Analyst (Former Employee) - Canada - 27 December 2021
You will be in stress at all times. Company does not care about your physical or mental health. Working hours are uncertain. People usually leave the job after 2-3 months. You can see for yourself.
Pros
You are paid. You will meet some excellent team members.
Cons
Everything else.

opportunities for growth are rare, the lab is always understaffed, huge turnover
Laboratory Assistant (Former Employee) - Burnaby, BC - 22 December 2021
Good starting job to add a line to your resume. Sparse opportunities for growth, very poor training system, everyone is overworked and genuinely unhappy
Pros
The job itself is interesting, you can learn a lot, albeit, with no additional compensation
Cons
Long and unpredictable hours

Great company
Senior Technician (Current Employee) - Oakville, ON - 14 December 2021
Low pay at the start. Tons of room for advancement. Friendly coworkers who are happy to teach. Flexible hours but you cannot work from home due to the nature of the job.
Pros
Free food

Sample Receiving
SAMPLE RECEIVING TECHNICIAN (Former Employee) - Markham, ON - 16 February 2020
No real opportunity for advancement. Work gets download to the lower levels often; no real "teamwork", everyone has to look out for themselves. Long hours and unreliable breaks.

Good place to gain entry level experience
Chemistry Analyst/ Microbiology Analyst (Former Employee) - Markham, ON - 30 September 2019
Work life balance was very challenging in the microbiology department. You are expected to work weekends, time off is sometime denied, was a challenge requesting to leave early and work very late nights. The training program in Micro was very good and the people in micro were a pleasure to work with.
The chemistry department had much better work life balance. Hard department to move up in and training was very poor.

Good job to start
Chemical Analyst (Current Employee) - Markham, ON - 23 April 2019
It is good job to start but if you stay longer than a few years - you are stuck . Very bad management, not prospective place to work. This opinion is shared with many of my co-workers.
Pros
Flexible starting time
Cons
Bad management

Microbiology Analyst (Current Employee) - Markham, ON - 2 May 2015
It's a fast paced and productive laboratory with a steady volume of work, I do believe have grown and improved on various skills as a lab professional and I partly owe it Merieux NutriSciences.
