Not a fun place to work
Receiver/Shipper (Current Employee) –  Edmonton, AB24 September 2018
You are just a number, more focused on the company then the staff. Not much room for pay increase and they pay minimal. Ok job if looking to get a pay check and just starting off.

Loader (Current Employee) –  Edmonton, AB12 September 2018
My work at Lowe’s has been enlightening and inspiring. I was a loader which means my general duties were keeping the parking lot clean, picking orders from their designated homes as well as the shipping and receiving. I would help customers load their cars when something was too heavy for them to lift on their own. But when there were times I had nothing to do I would walk around the stoke, make sure things are tidy, and direct customers to whatever it was they are looking for.
Pros
Good management team.
Cons
Only 15 hours per week.

Decent Place to work. (mostly)
Sales Specialist (Current Employee) –  Edmonton, AB11 September 2018
For the most part the management teams for the 2 stores I have worked at have been decent, with the occasional bad apple that turns up because of store transfers. The worst part of the job is the lack of work/life balance. They don't want you to have a live outside of the company. If your lucky enough to get one of the few permanent full time positions then requesting time off becomes impossible. There is also zero hope of having ANY kind of regular schedual. All full time staff need to be availve the 120 hours a week the store is operating and work all shifts in one week period.
Pros
the 10% employee discount
Cons
long hours

I've just given up on asking for the. i was hired as a peak hour worker, and expected to do a full time employee's job, on a peak hours schedule. majority of the time i am the only one getting deliveries ready.

Might not get your break on time, learned a lot from more experienced staff, welcoming atmosphere especially from older co-workers.
Full-Time Cashier (Former Employee) –  Edmonton, AB6 July 2018
A typical day at Lowe's can start at 6 a.m. and end at 11 p.m. So be prepared to be flexible and work shift work. Don't expect to get your break on time due to the fact that it is on a schedule and is followed by the head cashier. Only, this person can allow you to go on breaks.
If someone, phones in sick the schedule stays the same. The workplace culture is typical of any retail sales job. You, gossip about what everyone, is saying and doing. The hardest part of the job is trying to get along with everyone else. Having to learn about the different products in each department. What you are allowed to do and when you should be calling for department manager or supervisor. Also, having to clean up especially the washrooms after the store is closed. The most enjoyable part of the job is that you are always busy, meeting people, you could have great staff to work with, wages a little higher than other retailers, helping people, promotion.
Pros
One hour lunch and two fifteen minutes break. Full benefits as a Part time employee.
Cons
low salary, difficulty to advance, can be demoted, fired easily, expected to meet sales target.

Enjoyable place to work, productive employees for the most part although the hours were absolutely horrendous.
The management will go above and beyond to make sure you're happy and everything is going well in your work day.

lumber worker (Former Employee) –  Edmonton, AB15 June 2018
A typical day at work would be providing outstanding costumer service while assisting costumers with any questions they may have or when they need any wood cut.

I learned how to properly operate a saw. I also learned how to properly show great costumer serious.

The management was fun to work with and was easy going.

The hardest part was learning where everything was in such a big store.

The most enjoyable part of the job has to be meeting new people and finding out what they are building.
Pros
sometimes there would be a free BBQ lunch

PLUMBING DEPARTMENT MANAGER (Current Employee) –  Edmonton, AB2 April 2018
Customer service is uppermost. Department managers must be efficient in multitasking, training and delegating tasks. Dealing with requests from the store management team can be trying at times. Most enjoyable part of job is recognition from customers
Pros
providing knowledge and solutions to customers
Cons
too many shift changes in a week

Appraisal for each and every innovative thing
Cashier/Customer Service (Current Employee) –  Edmonton, AB22 January 2018
The best place to work is in Lowe's West side. All the staff members are very helpful. Managers appraise every new idea anyone brings in and these ideas are implemented as well

Plumbing Sales Specialist Full Time (Current Employee) –  Edmonton, AB20 July 2017
There is no training other the on the job, meaning you need to learn quickly and without much interaction with other associates. There doesn't seem to be a lot of long term associates working for the company the max would be 4-5 years
the shifts are 9 hours with one hour lunches.
IMPACT is their company go to for sales and customer service
They use a dos based point of sale
The assistant managers are always hidden in the office the DM seem to pretty much run the store.

all management jobs are done internally
Pros
lots of contests
Cons
No training

Installs Sales Coordinator (Former Employee) –  Edmonton, AB16 July 2017
It was good to help individuals but the management was not very professional. I learned to be patient with customers as well as co-workers. The company has people of different academic and social levels and so at times it is difficult to operate on a more or less save level of understanding.
Pros
One hour lunch
Cons
Pushing and lifting big appliences

Was fired and given no reason. Too short staffed to do a great job most of the time.Very poorly run company. Managers spend a lot of time when there is no staff telling you why there is no staff. You must think mature adults are really stupid.
Cons
Really stupid schedules
