Great coworkers, inconsistent management/expectations
Program Associate (Current Employee) - London, ON - 18 May 2023
Indeed featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedYour ability to thrive in your role at LHSC is determined by your management team. The twist is that management is constantly changing (not through leaves or by quitting, but by executives “reshuffling” management teams) - I’ve had 8 different managers over 6 years. Some managers have built a strong relationship with their teams, and others have no idea who the people are that they approve vacation requests for. There is no consistency which makes it difficult to be recognized for your hard and meaningful work as an employee. The people I work either daily are amazing and we support each other through the ups and downs, but I have heard that other programs aren’t as lucky in having supportive coworkers. Employee experience is very program and area dependent. I find across all areas that if you are a contract employee, they will forever keep you as a contract employee and renew your contract annually. Best advice is to only accept a role if you are hired as “permanent” right away. Parking is reasonably priced but there are never any parking spots available if you start work at 9am onwards.
Pros
Close to home, one hour lunch break option, opportunity to learn a lot about health services
Cons
Inconsistent management, inconsistent work spaces, constants office moves, no follow-up with employee feedback/concerns

Challenging but enjoyable workplave
Front Entrance Control Officer (Former Employee) - London, ON - 30 May 2023
Working within the LRCP staffing office was a challenging but rewarding an enjoyable job. Reporting to my manager, we had many responsibilities as staffing clerks but were given any support we requested. Would 100% recommend working for LHSC, with annual raises and constant learning opportunities. Great benefits and great way to build relationships and grow your career.
Pros
Flexible hours
Cons
Unionized

Comparative pay...lack of good management
Registered Nurse (Former Employee) - London, ON - 20 January 2023
Always understaffed and vacation time rarely approved. Micromanagement of nurses time. Made to work throughout all of LHSC which included different hospitals, very little notice of switch in location prior to shift.

Staff is great , management not so much
Ambulatory clerk (Current Employee) - London, ON - 7 January 2023
Pay is less than expected for a college graduate. Staff are great and good work environment as long as you don't have to deal with management. Clerks are looked down upon and often the target if patients have complaints or are upset. Mamagnent can be unsupportive and can bullies at times. I stay for the pension and works hrs as other places do offer what I have and works well for me .

Busy, fast paced work place, policies contradict
Security Guard and Private Investigator (Former Employee) - Ontario - 1 January 2023
Exciting place to work as security, however, watch your back as everyone wants to improve the ladder, your buddy one day will step on you the next. Corporate policies conflict with each other and will be the detriment to employees, no life work balance, deal with assaults, and injured or dead and dying people from adults to children with no compassion from Mng. Next call, next call, they say show compassion, empathy, and caring but they do not want that from employess. Politics rule the work place, people who have never done the job dictate how it is supposed to be done without a clue on how to deal with volatile situations. They say think on your feet yet when you do, you're penalized for it. Very toxic work inviroment due to Mng not caring for employees only the bottom dollar and what public perception is.
Pros
Experience for law enforcement
Cons
Management does not care about doing the right thing

No life no balance
Personal Support Worker (Former Employee) - London, ON - 14 December 2022
Would never recommend to apply here. Communication is horrible, walking into your shift and no one is willing to help. My first two weeks of training the psw refused to train because they didn’t want to. So a lot of learning and teaching one’s self the job. They pile many duties on you and then get upset when not completed but won’t have time to help or instruct you on what to do. I left this job after 3 months. As in those 3 months I had no life other than work. 12 hr shifts 4 in a row and then call you on days off and basically give you no option but to say yes. Toxic place
Pros
Pay is decent
Cons
Long hours, toxic work place

Great learning experience but toxic environment
Medical Imaging (Current Employee) - London, ON - 11 November 2022
Learning experiences are great. Upper Management is out of touch with the real dynamics of environment. Constantly short staffed with little flexibility. Great relationship with Doctors and most coworkers. Not much opportunity for advancement but a lot of opportunity to help management with their added tasks.

Horrrrrible
PSW (Current Employee) - PSW - 5 November 2022
Terrible workplace.. no room for growth and horrible environment. The training has gotten a bit better, expect to be hired into the resource team unless otherwise notified.

Friendly environment
Research Assistant (Current Employee) - London, ON - 22 September 2022
Most of the staff here are friendly and inviting. They are always supporting you if you have questions or need help. There is always room for growth here.

You’re just another number to this company
Personal Support Worker (PSW) (Current Employee) - London, ON - 21 September 2022
Zero appreciation or support from management. You work without supplies and often times short staffed because they can’t keep staff around. Horrible work place!

Good if you want to build skills
RN (Current Employee) - London, ON - 21 August 2022
Coworkers are great and a good place to learn skills, but you will likely not feel very supported by management and you will be constantly understaffed.

Extremely Poor Experience
Office Clerk (Former Employee) - London, ON - 17 August 2022
The current CEO needs to take a deep, hard, look at the organization. The rampant nepotism and protectionism that occurs working for the business (make no mistake, it's a business) is absolutely terrible. You're a disposable number.
Pros
Pay is decent.
Cons
Only if you're not related to someone.

Corporate Healthcare to a T
Registered Nurse (Current Employee) - London, ON - 12 July 2022
A hospital that has grown too big for its own good. Organization is run from a corporate mindset and the purpose of this healthcare institution feels left behind. Staff are treated like cogs in the machine and if you try to speak up to bring issues to managements’ attention you will be targeted as a bad fit. Coworkers were kind and made the position tolerable. Mistreatment and assault of staff by patients will not be addressed by the employer despite a “zero tolerance” policy. Pay is average as most positions are unionized and thus no different pay wise than any other hospital. Benefits however are poorly implemented with the hospital almost always underpaying requiring a grievance for most claims.

Very fortunate to be unionized!
RN Staff Nurse (Former Employee) - London, ON - 7 July 2022
The union and LHSC is strong and protects nurses - especially those with disabilities. I will never work at a non-unionized hospital again! Overall I had a wonderful experience at lhsc
Pros
union
Cons
pay, staff shortage

Not a bad place to work, but not great either
Specialist (Current Employee) - London, ON - 15 June 2022
Big organization, room for movement, but the politics involved are outrageous. Alot of front line staff are awesome, and the people you deal with will be awesome. Senior leadership though is so detached and has no idea how things happen.

Professional environment; interesting work
IT Support Specialist (Former Employee) - London, ON - 25 May 2022
A day at work was generally enjoyable, I learned a lot of things and was exposed to many different points of view. The hardest part of the job was generally due to outside reasons, not caused by LHSC itself. Mostly I worked self - directed which I found to be most fulfilling.

Great organization for low-achieving leaders
Admin (Former Employee) - London, ON - 27 April 2022
Huge org and your experience will depend on where you end up. Turnover seems pretty high. Top heavy with leaders making a lot of money and most don't know what they are doing. great place to be if you enjoy poor leadership, internal politics and all your coworkers being miserable.
Pros
Good benefits, paid sick time, awesome retirement (HOOP)
Cons
High turnover, workloads can be unpredictable, old/traditional attitudes

Easy work orders. Management to focused on looking good.
Craftsman (Current Employee) - London, ON - 19 April 2022
Very low pay for tradesmen, 40,000 a year less base salary then some red seal trades. Managers focused on whatever gets them promoted, no respect for tax payer Dollars.

Toxic
Ambulatory Clerk (Former Employee) - Emergency - 13 March 2022
Very busy and stressful. Do not train very well, got trained by 4 different people who did things different. Therefore it was very confusing. It was a dangerous atmosphere with people yelling, swearing, impatient and the security is not allowed to do much but try to de-esculate. There were assaults on a regular basis. I was not told about certain parts of the position before I started.
Pros
Good breaks, good pay
Cons
Long hours, poor security, poor training
