Decent workplace overall

Indeed featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
Decent place to work overall. Advancement opportunities or transferring to different departments. Usually a positive atmosphere with co-workers and managers.Stressful at times, not enough hours/employees scheduled to keep up with workload and customer demand. More part-time status and high school students are hired with limited availabilities, poor work effort and ethic. This results in unfair scheduling at times and more stress on the adult long time employees, extra workload, trying to catch up the slack. Some customers are very rude, difficult to deal with.Of course there are also nice, regular customers that you enjoy serving and seeing.

Pros

Usually a positive atmosphere, employee discount, free lunches and activities sometimes. Nice regular customers.

Cons

Hire more part time employees and high school students that have limited availability, low work effort and ethic. The long time adult employees are under a lot of stress, extra workload due to this. Results in unfair scheduling at times. Rude, difficult customers.

A basic minimum wage job with little prospect of moving up in the company.

It's both good and bad. There is a lot of gossip, and a few bad apples.. And the store definitely has a noticible hierarchy, from the clerk's to supervisor's, to the department management to the store managers.. And advancement is less what you do to prove yourself, and more who you are friends with or dating. The pay is bad, but.. if you do your job.. you really shouldn't have anything to worry about. It's minimum wage. It's a great learning experience for highschool kids, and extra income for retirees.

Pros

Great co-workers

Cons

Low wages

Terrible place to work

I do not recommend Loblaw’s. My assistant department manager expects you to do their job for them (i.e. place orders for supplies/ingredients). They never give praise or feedback but have no problem talking about you behind your back. Very two faced and “gossipy” management. Most staff are lazy. If you work hard, don’t bother, it doesn’t get you anywhere because it’s a union. I’ve been waiting for years for a full time position. There are few and they are far between. Never enough hours. Hours always getting cut. Not worth the pay (in my department). It’s definitely a dead end job. Benefits are decent.

Pros

Benefits/pension

Cons

Work weekends and holidays

Standard minimum wage job

It's a minimum wage position, fine if you're in high school looking for cash but otherwise not worth it. Management was poor, and how stressful the job was depended on your position.

Very poor management

No respect for staff. Cut hours constantly so you cannot rely on a standard pay cheque. Show up for shifts and told to go home. Complaints not dealt with. Rules for some people and not for others. No standard dress code. Some staff are repremanded for not wearing appropriate clothing while other departments can wear non - compliant clothes. Very poor management.

Pros

Free treats. Free parking

Cons

Very poor management. Double standards.

Easy and fun

Really enjoyed working here, management is nice and there’s no drama within the store. Coworkers are cool too even the older ones. The actual daily tasks were easy and straightforward as well

Pros

10% off discount, stress-free environment, good management

Cons

discount after 6 months (and only on select items)

Stressful but depending on the location

Great team, loads to learn, but continuous pressure to be overworked. A lof of effort has to be put in for minimum wage salary. Managers are really friendly and caring.

All around wonderful staff.

Overall this job has provided me with learning new technology, flexibility for work hours, a chance to meet wonderful co-workers. On the negative side, you don't get a lot of support from management team or respect enough to provide a clean environment for it's staff,

Extremely low with desperate management that will throw anyone under the bus

It’s a easy first job for a student or a teenager but that’s the problem the managers treat you poorly and it’s bad very bad there’s no freedom you can’t talk to anyone or else you’ll get yelled at it’s brutal

Pros

They can’t fire you easily It’s easy

Cons

Stressful Lots of work but it’s the constantly same thing again

Great management

My time working in the hot deli was stressful at times but fun at other times. Most stress was caused from needing to put out product for customers other then that it was enjoyable

Pros

Friendly staff

Flexible place to work and ideal for a student

Great place if you're looking for a flexible, fast paced and on-the-go work experience. I personally had a great manager, who balanced out some of the negatives. I wouldn't have lasted as long as I did if my manager was not as wonderful as she was. Pay does not reflect effort of work and benefits are a joke- you literally would have to wait over a year for them. Best suited for students but even then you would make WAY more serving or bartending.

Pros

Flexible hours and scheduling and snacks

Cons

Wage is NOT lievable

Enjoyed working here!

I believe this is a good place to work for anyone looking for a part time job, lots of growth can be made within the company you just have to put in the time as in years and work to move up. Great job for students or someone who is just looking for extra hours or to keep themselves busy!

Pros

Free lunches Flexible schedules Good management Good hours Time off when needed

Cons

Hardly any full time positions

They did a lot of things for employees, lunches games rewards

It's a good place to work, pay is what everyone else is offering . It takes too long to get benefits. It's job security. It was in my community, and close to home. Employee discounts are a plus, especially now with the prices going up. It took a few months to get a discount card.

Pros

They say part time, but I got full weeks

Cons

Takes too long to get benefits

Underpaid and stressful

Relaxing ifPT, but management and culture is awful. Hours are cut often, but amount of work remains. Some fun days are provided, but for the most part, drudgery.

Completely mismanagedeverybody thinks they're a manager no one knows what's going on not really one of them is a manager

The gong Show mismanaged working there you just plug into your music and go about your job you're fine if you put your trust in any manager they will back away from you and say you never even told them anything like that it's strange clicky maybe wouldn't advise it I'll be enough most people there have worked there for 20 years at minimum wage minus union dues

If you need a job just do stock or cashier

One of the worst positions there. So much work and you will always be learning even after training. You're treated like an expert on flowers by customers but the training is terrible so you feel inadequate and usually don't know what to tell people. I've had better training at seasonal jobs. There's a higher chance of you messing up. They expect you to do a ton of work and you're usually scheduled alone. Loblaw strangely a couple years ago and got rid of all the floral managers. They're in different positions and all of them working at my store didn't want to return to their old position in floral. Tells you all you need to know. You have no one to ask for advice higher up than you. Upper management didn't know jack **** about flowers but they pretended too. The department doesn't normally get a lot of hours. My store didn't care if inventory was dead or not or dying too quickly.

Pros

Good co- workers, chill on some days

Cons

No hours, upper management don't know how to run the dept, too much work, very poor training

Fasted pace environment with great benefits

Working there isn’t bad. Management is often a mess and basically a free for all. Benefits are great for part time staff. Work isn’t difficult. Staff is generally pretty good

Standard Retail

Unionized stores pay ok, and offer benefits. No work life balance as it's retail. Some departments are more relaxed than others, but overall the stores are very corporate.

Pros

Discount

Cons

Shifts all over the place

Minimum wage job,

Good workplace for someone in school or for a first job.Schedule requirements are good if you're in school, but not if you're looking for a second job as they require you to work weekends and 1 day of the week minimum.Colleagues are easy to get along with.Management is a hit or miss, but normally it is easy to get along with your direct manager if it's a smaller department.
