Good Pay -> Nothing Else
Sales Associate (Former Employee) –  Edmonton, AB7 March 2019
Worked in Sales for a few years.
Good pay in furniture, mediocre/bad pay in appliance electronics.
Leon's upper management doesn't care about its employees at the store level, I have seen many people get fired or leave the company over very small things.
They focused on creating a toxic, hyper-competitive sales environment.
You will work every weekend and holiday.
You will have an unpaid meeting at the start of every shift, usually an hour on Saturdays.
You will see grown adults act as kids and swear and scream at each other fighting over sales.
If you were lucky enough to be hired into furniture you will often look over to the appliance department and the people who do the same job but make 35% less salary then you, vice versa if you were unlucky enough to be hired into electronics/appliances.
There is good money in furniture and you have a little bit of freedom to go on your phone or come and go during your shift are the good things about the job.
Long hours, forced unpaid meetings, over-the-top competitive environment, management's lack of integrity towards their employees are the bad things about the job (that and its straight commission so some days you work 12 hours for $0-$20 if you have a bad day). You also have to lie about the value of warranties and protection plans to customers and shove them down their throats to make aggressive targets and often have to mislead costumers about the value of the products and how good the price is today.

Must learn to work for yourself. Be good with your customers.
Sales Associate (Former Employee) –  Edmonton, AB3 March 2019
Get to work, check available stock, call existing customers about orders, make order changes, research new products, make deals on the sales floor, write thank you cards.
I learned a great deal from leons such us how to work in a competitive sales environment, others helped me out at first but the job very much requires a "you scratch my back, ill scratch yours" mentality with the other sales associate. DO NOT depend on others, they will take your sales and there is little you can do about it. so maintain good customer relations and they will come back to you. Since repeat customers is the money maker there, you want to be sure to take care of the ones you have.
Pros
Clean work environment, Dealing with all sorts of people
Cons
Toxic work mentality, Dealing with all sorts of people

Leon's Furniture
Sales Manager (Former Employee) –  Edmonton, AB4 January 2019
Working at Leon's Furniture was a good experience.
The shifts are long, you see enough people walk in the door that you should be able to hit your sales targets and bring in a good income. Most sales people make $70,000 plus. It is a challenge to work there with a young family as you work most nights until 9:00 pm. The income was consistent and I recommend working at Leon's.
Once you leave Leon's you are never invited back to work.
Pros
Good Atmosphere and pay structure
Cons
Life Balance as long shifts into the evening

You Make Your Own Money
Sales Associate (Former Employee) –  Edmonton, AB29 September 2017
First of all it's a fully commissioned job - you make more by selling and delivering more! Great days off which is up to 3 days! fantastic product knowledge courses! Worked with different but friendly cultures but no closed friends (sorry) i meant it! You're gone for holidays and then you're worried about your opened orders and for not selling anything.

Not that great
Merchandiser/Customer Service (Former Employee) –  Edmonton, AB5 September 2017
I loved the people I worked with, they're fun and knowledgeable and helpful. HOWEVER, THERE IS A LOT OF DRAMA, MALICE AND GOSSIP which made the working environment very stressful and emotionally devastating. People talk about each other all the time, criticize and humiliate each other behind their backs... Its not a healthy environment to work in. Unfortunately I worked long enough to realize that.
Cons
This store is full of malice and gossip

Delivery Driver/Swamper/Warehouse (Current Employee) –  Edmonton, AB3 November 2016
The management are easy-going and very friendly...usually, lol. There are many different positions throughout the building that may be good for all kinds of people because it is a showroom and a warehouse. Home deliveries come from this location as well. The lunchroom is spacious and there is plenty of parking for staff.
Pros
Good people, easy-going management
Cons
4th floor deliveries, no pension

picking for deliveries, using a lift truck, picking for shipping orders. I learned how to handle moving different furniture items. Management was good for warehouse. Co workers were good and friendly. Hardest part was moving furniture all day, kind of hard on body. Most enjoyable part was the people were nice and good friends.

Great Place
Merchandise Manager (Former Employee) –  Edmonton, AB22 February 2016
A typical day is hard to describe. The store is very busy at all times and you may be helping out any department at any given time.

The staff was awesome and management was great from store level to home office.

Very supportive company with lots of room to grow. Show up and work hard and the sky's literally the limit.

Only negative was the salary for managers is low and based on bonuses to make a good living. Coupled with the hours you will be working(Weekends,Long Weekends, Nights) and the OT they don't pay you for, it leaves a little to be desired.
Pros
Advancement, People, Management
Cons
Hours, Pay

Entry level workplace with little chance of advancement
Pick-up door supervisor & Inventory associate (Current Employee) –  Edmonton AB27 June 2015
Entry level workplace, rapid change of workers.
Managers and coworkers are friendly, but without proper human resource regulations, it is hard to work here for a long time.
Inventory, receiving and management skills can be learnt here, which is the best part.
When there is little customers--and it happens frequently-- the job can be super boring.
There is little chance to get a raise unless changing the position.
A very good place for young people to gain experience, but it is not a place for career seekers.

Productive workplace, flexible for students
Warehouse Associate (Former Employee) –  Edmonton, Ab5 March 2013
The job included using an Order Picker to pick and place merchandise for customers. I learned how to be effective with my time and how to lift in ways that would not strain muscles. My co-workers are great and they help keep me motivate when tasks get repetitive. The hardest part of the job is keeping up physically with the task at hand. The solution to that is micro breaks to stretch and recoup so that work doesn't become overwhelming. The best part is Feeling like part of the team.
Pros
flexible hours
Cons
some employees were lazy and were paid the same

System Specialist (Former Employee) –  Edmonton7 September 2012
Great people, management and an overall great experience. Pay is based on moving up the ladder tho. Moving up in the company also requires possibly moving to other parts of Canada.
